Had a lovely meal at Rico's restaurant. The ambience is great, very warm and friendly, make you feel right at home. The staff are helpful and polite.I ordered the halibut, it was a special, amazing! My friend had the weekday deal two courses for £13, they had a started and main which were great. The food was hot, freshly prepared and very tasty. Would definitely go again. The menu was good with authentic Italian meals with some less authentic meals to please the less adventurous palate. Great all round, a lovely family restaurant that I will visit again with probably a large party. It does get busy though......which is always a good sign. Booking recommended on weekends and Friday nights. Buon appetito!

Even though this place has been here for years and years I had never actually been before. It’s up a flight of stairs so not the easiest place to stumble upon if you don’t know it’s there. We went on a snowy Friday night and got a nice table for two looking out over Poulton. It’s got a slightly old school feel about it but is clearly a popular venue as by the time we left it was really filling up (and this was the middle of January when most people have neither the money nor the inclination to eat out). Only had garlic bread (tasty but a little soggy) and lasagne (very moreish, albeit in the sloppy English style). Also a bottle of red which the waiter decanted at the table which was a nice touch. Menu had loads of choice and there was a specials menu too with stuff like beef stroganoff. Poulton has a lot of restaurants these days – including four Italians at last count – but Rico’s seems to have carved out its own little niche.

Having read the comments for this restaurant I decided to give it a go. Maybe it is me and that I expect more for my money, but there was nothing about the food that excited me. The starters were overpriced and comparable to pub food and the mains courses again, were overpriced and somewhat tasteless. We had a mixture, pizza, pasta and a chicken dish. The pizza dough was salty and bland, I had tasted better from Dominos. The toppings were too oily and contained too much cheese. The passata/tomatoe sauce again was tasteless. The pasta was bland, overpriced and the portions too small. The chicken dish was cooked well, but not worth the amount charged. I really didn't know what I was paying for with this dish. When I eat out, I usually expect i) something comparable for what i am paying and ii) something better than what I can make at home. This restaurant did not do either.

This is a great place to go at weekend. The food is always good, the service is quick and unobtrusive and it feels like a happy place to be.
