Othellos – WooltonHad been looking forward to taking my wife to see A Bit of Buble since making the booking back in January, as part of her Birthday Celebrations. We had been before so expected a good night. What a disappointment the night turned out to be. We often eat out so have experienced good and bad food before, but pride ourselves in never being too critical. (maybe we should be? so here goes) To say this food was average would be giving it more merit than it deserved. Firstly the starter was awful the chef had forgot to include part of the ingredients. i.e. Avocado was missing out of the Prawn & Avacado starter. Instead included too much lettuce and tiny bits of I suppose was Avacado, but I believe the jury is still deliberating on that one. When asked by the waitress was everything ok? I informed her no! To which she replied oh! maybe you will have better luck with the main course. Wonderful I thought we have a comedian as well as a singer, this could be a good night. I did ask for the manageress, who duly agreed with me after observing what was being passed off as Avocado. (2 tiny pieces on side of plate) and offered me a replacement, and said she would "Speak to Chef" As I had actually ate the prawns and lettuce of the starter, I politely declined. Ref: upset chef at your peril thought (I have seen film The Road Trip) Manageress offered us drink instead and assured us the main will be fine. My wife had the Spring roll and sweet chill starter. (said ok but not particularly wonderful) Well the mains arrived, I had chosen Sea Bass with seasonal Vegetables and potatoes. My wife had chosen Lamb on a bed of mash also with vegetables. First reaction as I gazed down on this supposedly improved course. Was to do an impression of a Telly-Tubby eh-oh I thought as I examined what was on my plate. Now I like sea bass, and I have had it in many a restaurant and always enjoyed it. (Even cooked it at home). But this was a piece of tiny, over cooked offering and in general the whole meal lack any flavour and any imagination. ( Though I did close my eyes and try to imagine a delicious meal in front of me, but it didn't work) My wife's meal also lacked flavour and said she had better, but couldn't remember having anything worse than this in any other Restaurant before. (Now my wife does a mean lamb so she should know) When the waitress asked if was everything ok, I replied not really this isn't much better. ( the blank look I got back was though I asked her to explain Einsteins Theory of Relativity) She was lovely really, I think she was just embarrassed delivering this poor standard meal to someones table. Meanwhile the official entertainment had arrived Hurrah! (Ref: Comedian quote earlier in review) The singer One, Cliff Jenkinson (A Bit of Buble) Apologised for being late as he had to return home to Mossley Hill in 15 minutes round trip to get another laptop as his original one wasn't working. Oh for the day's of live music eh! Its all backing tracks now using MP3'S (I wonder how many speed cameras he had to pass to do it in that time? (New career in F1 possible) To be fair he kicked off his act and was entertaining and soon had people dancing on the floor. (Mostly women who had had a few drinks and knew how to enjoy themselves) Though I suspect some were just dancing to keep warm, as the room was quite chilly with an occasional draft from the east to give that "wind chill factor") This cold front was increased when our candle went out on the table leaving both my wife and I shivering with what looked like an icicle hanging from my wife's nose. (I have since learned it was a frozen tear of despair of how the night had gone) A new candle arrived some 15 minutes later lo a few tables around us, We were not the only people to put our hands over the candle to get some heat. I suggested to my wife to go to the toilet and stand by the hot air dryer to get warm. Rigamortis had set with me at this point so I was a lost cause. Scott of the Antarctic came to mind when my wife disappeared to the toilet with the remark " I maybe gone some time". She did arrive back to my obvious delight, just in time to sample the desserts we had ordered. My wife had ordered what sounded a quite delicious a Banana cheese cake. I had ordered a (WARM) apple and cinnamon pancake with vanilla ice cream. It's at this point I have to give Blundell Street Restaurant 10 out of 10 for consistency as the desserts were as tasteless as the rest of the meal. With a don't know what the cheese cake tasted of apart from nothing, to my warm too thick pancake with apple puree and raisins and cinnamon straight from the fridge and rock hard ice cream. I tasted it and gave up. As I we had both lost the will to live at this point and the act had finished his first part I asked for the bill. At no time after the starter did the manageress come to see us and ask if the meal was ok. (I suspect she already knew the answer) As we had purchased this visit via Groupon it was only 2 drinks each we had to pay for. I had been drinking cordial and my wife an alcoholic drink. The waitress informed us we did not have to pay for drinks the due to the poor starter. Had the manageress bothered her bum to see us throughout the meal, she may have been aware she was getting off lightly. Though the purpose of our night was not to see what we could get for free? it was to have a pleasant night out of which this was not! We won't be rushing back anytime soon, which is a pity as we both like live entertainment (even with backing tracks). We won't be recommending Blundell Street to our friends, as we feel it isn't the same as it once was.

Antalya – Mossley HillI have been to this great restaurant with my wife quite a few times. The food is exceptional. This must be Old Swan's best kept secret. We have been there with friends who were not sure of liking the Indian food and when they have tried it they said they would definitely be back for more. The staff are friendly and always present the food beautifully. If you don't try this great little restaurant you are missing out on a culinary experience. "great stuff".

Zeera – West DerbyThis restaurant has recently changed it's name from Bhaji. It has a "Bring your own" policy but as we went on Sunday afternoon we took soft drinks rather than alcohol. The restaurant was totally empty when we arrived which surprised us as they do a Sunday buffet at £9.95 which we'd expected to be popular. The waiter asked us what kind of glass we'd like for our drinks and we told him we'd brought soft drinks. He said we could only bring our own alcohol - soft drinks had to be purchased from them.We asked for water, in that case. he brought two glasses of warmish tap water, which rather started the meal off on the wrong note! The meal itself was advertised as an all you can eat buffet, but in fact you get a set starter, a choice of mains and a single quite stale poppadom, and one naan bread between two people.I'd say the food was just about acceptable, though the onion bhajis were very good. However, given that the restaurant was deserted, I was surprised to say the least that we were not allowed to consume our own soft drinks...only alcohol!
Elaichi – West DerbyThe best Asian restaurant i have been in the UK amazing food and the staff were very kind.

So Salsa – CrosbyThe Tai Pan is the best Chinese food we have had by far & comes with high recommendation, I have travelled to the far east and the food is the best and all I can say is this place is the most authentic taste in the whole of Europe . . . . superb !!
Tai Pan Restaurant – Liverpool City CentreApril 2013. Just visited with my family, food was disgusting, greasy, cold, the rice was under cooked and hard, the vermicelli was cold and under cooked, greasy prawn toast (if you can call it this, as it just tasted of bread soaked in oil. Yuk ) Meat for duck pancakes is pork !!!!! shredded in tiny dust like pieces. desserts were bad, cubes of jelly, ice cream (already in bowls) in freezer, marshmallows cut in half, mashed gateaux, tinned fruit !!!! the only fresh fruit on offer was grapes. Price was cheap, so I suppose you get what you pay for and it is true for this eating place Sorry doesn't deserve to be called a restaurant), we are appalled that food in this place is allowed to be served. We will not ever go here or recommend ever, should you decide to eat Chinese food please consider going to any other place but here. This view is of our opinion.
The Real China – SouthportWhen the appetiser of Spanish olives arrived - covered with sweet chilli dipping sauce!!? - we should have realised this was a sign of things to come, and told the staff we had changed or minds. We didn't, and ordered 2 courses each from the lunch menu. The duck salad was drowned in gloopy hoi sin sause which surely must have been from a jar. The piri piri sauce wasn't at all hot, again clearly from a jar. The skinny fries were not cooked or seasoned nor was the home made coleslaw, which wasn't fresh - more chewy than crunchy. What can only be described as stainless steel dog bowls were provided to place the bones of diabetes inducing sweet but not sticky ribs in.Even though no one in our party ordered a single Italian dish, the waitresses attentively offered cracked black pepper with all dishes which we found both amusing and odd.Despite the terrible food and ill informed chef, service was excellent. If you're the kind of person who thinks olives go with sweet chilli dipping sauce, and you're willing to pay a chef who thinks along the same lines - this is the place for you.
