The Owls At Standish – WiganMy wife and I have been to the Buraq many, many times and have been impressed on each and every occasion. It scores highly in all areas: the owner, Mr Talib, and his staff set standards of friendliness and approachability which many restaurant owners would do well to follow; the reasonably priced food is never less than first rate and the restaurant itself is light, airy and well furnished. I have taken many friends, colleagues and clients there over the years and everyone one of them has been as impressed as I am.
Buraq – WiganThe best Indian restaurant in Manchester without any doubt. Don't bother going down the curry mile, come here. The food is fantastic, no grease and oils, but a pure joy to eat. I couldn't recommend it any higher. It's a hidden secret so don't tell too many people.
Coriander – ChorltonExcellent food, well presented in a good atmosphere with friendly service. Reasonably priced with some good offers via their website, early bird, etc.. Mixed menu, Greek, Italian, British, Mexican, etc, Plenty of grill and fish options and a decent choice for the vegetarians amongst us. Additional specials menu also available. A gang of us went simply to give it a try as it hasn't been open long, well worth repeat visits.
Retreat – BoltonWe had a girls night there a few weeks ago, the service was great an we had an excellent night.
Red Lounge – AudenshawWas really pleased that the Horse and Jockey got refurbished and started doing food. The refurb job is lovely - they've turned a dingy pub into a nice, bright restaurant/bar. Service is a BIG problem though. When dining with a vegetarian friend the veggie caesar salad came with large slices of anchovy on it. It was sent back and replaced with a supposedly fish free one. After a mouthful my horrified friend insisted she could taste anchovy and when we queried with the same waiter who'd replaced the first plate, he casually replied with a shrug that the chef puts finely chopped anchovy into the dressing. He offered to replace the food with a different meal (but not for free) but couldn't even be bothered to apologise for the mistake. For a restaurant that's supposedly very veggie friendly (they even have vegan dishes on the menu) it was a disgrace. I was hugely embarrassed that I'd taken my friend there. I was so appalled by the service that I will never eat at this restaurant again and I would strongly advise any vegetarian or vegan customers to think twice before dining there.
Horse and Jockey – Chorltoni thing the best and cleanest food i ever had and best persian food .
Caspian – Rusholmehad my daughters 18th birthday at this restaurant it was really well done. the plates used for the courses are all very fancy and the atmosphere in the restaurant is good
San Marino – BoltonPopped into Greens last night, happy to find out they had a fixed priced menu deal on (which isn't why we went), great choice, superb food. The flavours were excellent, and the portions sizes amazing particularly for a fixed priced menu. The meat eater amongst us, who was rather sceptical about going to a vegetarian restaurant, loved the tomato pepper and leek soup and thoroughly enjoyed the chickpea, potato and pea red Thai curry. The desserts were divine! If I had to improve anything then I wouldn't have gone for the house white and the waiters could've cracked a smile and showed a little more enthusiasm, but it didn't affect our visit and with the price of the overall bill, well, you simply cannot complain.
Greens – DidsburyWe are regulars at this restaurant and would like to add an 'excellent' review. It's the best traditional 'curry house' for miles. The management and staff are so nice; they always make you feel welcome. The service is extremely good even at busy times. The portions are huge and the food is fantastic. A brilliant place!
Bilash Balti House – Swintonthey do a two course special for 5 pound, excellent value good honest food, took my mum for the xmas lunch. all 3 courses very very good, u cant go wrong with this place, warm friendly chatty. love going here
Bowling Green Inn – WiganHighly recommended for food quality and service. We have been on many occasions and the food just seems to get better and better, so much so we took ten friends on New Year Eve and on one of the busiest nights of the year everybody thought the meal was superb. Many thanks again
La Roma Restaurant – Boltonsimply brilliant, great food without fuss, laid back atmosphere, excellent value, friendly staff and understated, you won't be disappointed!
La Torre – UrmstonI would just like to say how refreshing it was to dine at the windmill, the service was very good and the food was quite exceptional with great value for money. This place is an absolute must on any bodies itinery Gazza
Windmill – AudenshawOur party arrived and we were greeted by the manager (i think) who was very charming and witty which we appreciated because she seemed under pressure from an overbearing owner (at least we hope it was otherwise she should have shown him the door). Despite this she took it in her stride. Waited 20 minutes for a drink, they were busy but I could have made them for us and the bar staff in half the time. The food was good / ok not the best, we've been before and the quality was better, maybe just an "off night" from the chef. Overall 8/5 the service from the lovely waitress compensated for mediocre food, a rude obnoxious owner / customer and what would otherwise have been a non-starter. Our experience: the food in Beggars Bush (across the road) is far superior and the cocktails made in half the time. I'd give it another go.
Lead Station – Chorltonwe go to the wiggin tree twice a week, the food is brilliant, but the service is terrible, the staff are always stood around the bar talking instead of looking after customers, they seem to have a table near the bar were they all congregate. we put up with the bad service because the food is good but other people will not. There never seems to be a manager around. We have been going for 6months and have never seen a manager, there is always young staff on who don't care about the customer, there is only 1 member of staff who is good and that is the older lady with the glasses(she is very attentive) & looks after customers well, perhaps she should train the young ones in how to deal with customers as the management don't seem to be bothered.
Wiggin Tree – WiganThis place had potential but the service from senior staff is awful. We had numerous problems with an older male member of staff and finally wrote to the owner to complain after he shouted at us about something another table had done. The owner never even responded to the complaint. I loved the place initially but found the standards have dropped significantly. Have no intention of visiting again and I know many others who agree
