Dodds Restaurant – AmblesideThis place is a little gem. And I’m clearly not the only person who thinks so as both the takeout counter and the large café area were packed all day.by the look of it. The Apple Pie is a bakery and café in the middle of Ambleside and I think it also has letting rooms too. Lovely feel to the place and friendly staff.
Apple Pie Eating House and Bakery – AmblesideWe had an amazing lunch at the Drunken Duck yesterday. We had planned to go for a walk but thought better of it! They have just put in a brand new state of the art kitchen and it certainly showed! Fantastic food and venue.
Drunken Duck Inn – AmblesideStaying in Ambleside for a short break with friends called in for a coffee, and were greeted by friendly staff could not have been more accommodating, also a laugh and a joke. Enjoyed my double espresso, hot chocolate with marshmallows looked good. Best of all you must try the chocolate cake mmmmm. Will be back when next in the Lakes from Scotland.
Cafe Treff – AmblesideEnjoyed a couple of pints of Loweswater outside this beautiful venue in the the sun! I will return and eat, thats for sure. Think it used to be the Sawrey Hotel but now it's the Cuckoo Brow Inn.
The Cuckoo Brow Inn – AmblesideMy wife and I met my brother and his partner last night at the restaurant for a meal and we all thoroughly enjoyed all the three courses that we had. I did expect it to be good, as I have eaten chef Ryan Blackburns food several times while he was at The Cottage in the Woods in Cumbria, however it was much better than good. The restaurant is smallish, but on the plus side you get personal service, on the negative, you will need to book well in advance to get a table. William Wordsworth had a desk in part of the restaurant. It is fine dining in a relaxed envirement. His menu is small, but it changes with availability of fresh seasonal food. Ryan's brother works in the restaurant with other servers and all are very friendly and helpful, explaining the dishes and answering any questions. It is a bit of a drive for us from Braithwaite, but we cannot wait to go back.
Old Stamp House – AmblesideWent here for my hen night on Saturday. They ruined the evening. No greeting on arrival, served walnut bread to one of our party with a nut allergy despite being prewarned by email. Waited an hour and a half surrounded by dirty plates between main course and dessert. Were only able to catch staff to order one round of drinks all evening and when we finally managed to catch someone to ask for the desserts and tried to order more drinks we were told bar staff were too busy. So no more drinks! Table set up so there was no room for waiting staff to get past so guests kept having to stand up to let them through. Ignored for most of the evening and blank looks and no apologies when we complained several times. Shocking really. When I emailed them to say we realised later they charged us £36 in gratuities without asking first and asked for a refund due to our bad experienceI was treated to more woeful customer focus. Unacceptable. All twelve guests were unhappy and I was left feeling like a right idiot as the organsier. Thanks for ruining my hen night Lucy4.
Lucy4 Wine Bar and Bistro – AmblesideLocal produce used in this cafe, lovely and very friendly staff. Goats cheese and cranberry muffin is to die for. I would highly recommend this, not over priced and a really lovely experience. 5 stars and look forward to coming back!!
Cafe Treff – AmblesideThe white chocolate and raspberry muffin was fresh and very tasty.
Cafe Treff – AmblesideHad a great evening at LOAP- great food and LUCY as charming as ever.
Lucy’s On A Plate – AmblesideFriendly and good value for money. The wine wasn't great but overall ok!
Jintana Thai Restaurant – AmblesideWonderful, comfortable, great food, welcoming, pet freindly, great location, English home cooked food with an extra touch. Would highly recommend
The Cuckoo Brow Inn – AmblesideA great place to visit in Ambleside. It was very busy for takeaway and eat in, which tells you a lot. Our lunch was great, good food and service. The only complaint was from one of our party who felt the pie had been microwaved when reheated. Still he thought it very tasty
Apple Pie Eating House and Bakery – AmblesideWhat a wonderful end to a walk around Elterwater and Little Langdale. The seating out front here is a real suntrap and once you’ve managed to snag yourself a table, it’s really quite difficult to tear yourself away. Just had a snack and a couple of pints of lovely Jennings real ale whilst sat soaking up the spring sunshine. I can’t imagine there are too many places better to eat al fresco in the entire Lake District.
Britannia Inn – AmblesideGreat food service and attention to detail and value for money.
Brambles Cafe – AmblesideIt’s a number of years since I stayed here and on spec I booked a room for the wife and I between Xmas and New Year. If you’ve never been it’s essentially a privately owned pub and microbrewery in the middle of nowhere in the heights overlooking Lake Windermere between Ambleside and Hawkshead. The food was even better than I remember with my wife going so far as to declare the smoked haddock and Lancashire cheese soufflé as the best starter she had ever had. Good wine list too and of course decent beer as it’s brewed on-site.
Drunken Duck Inn – AmblesideExcellent Thai Restaurant just opposite Zefirellis Cinema. We have eaten at their other place in Bowness and the food here is just as good. The decorations in the restaurant are amazing and really add to the meal. Great cocktails and wonderful low Thai style tables at the back with Thai triangle cushions. Knocks the socks of the other Thai, definitely the best choice for Thai in Ambleside.
Jintana Thai Restaurant – Amblesidewhat a delightful place to stay with our doggie (puppy Bella). We just loved the room, food, ale, staff. Everyone made our special stay in this hotel for our 25th Wedding Ann 23.5.12, big party held on 26.5.12 in Poole Dorset. I was able to climb Blea Tarn just stunning place to be!!! Thank you everyone xoox We will be back!!! Andy & Maggie, & Bella
