Drunken Duck Inn – AmblesideA legend in the Lake District for this family. Our children holidayed with us in the Lake District and we always end up eating and drinking here. Reliably good, consistent food, great drinks. Just what a cafe should be. The simple things done well. Atmosphere is warm on a winters day, our kids fell asleep whilst consuming hot chocolate, now affectionately known to us as "The Apple Pie Sleeping house"
Apple Pie Eating House and Bakery – AmblesideAmazing place, just newly opened when we dined. the décor is out of this world and I certainly more impressive than any other place nearby. The food was as good, with a good selection of beers, wines and some wicked cocktails. Will certainly be back and will also make sure we sit at the back on the low Thai tables with Thai cushions, which is something we haven't seen before.
Jintana Thai Restaurant – AmblesideThe best pub for food in Ambleside. I love they weekly offers, entertainment and my favourite Sunday Roast, always happy with food and everytime we take family or friends for food the choice is always White Lion.
White Lion Hotel – AmblesideWe visited Caffe Treff on a damp cold day, and were met by friendly welcoming staff. The coffee was wonderful as was the hot chocolate, there was a large selection of cakes, the ones we tried were moist and delicious.Definitely worth a return visit.
Cafe Treff – AmblesideWhat am amazing place! This was the second place we stayed having been recommended by Sugarvine. A deserved winner of many awards! I would also drop Sugarvine an email if you are looking for some insider knowledge on where to eat or stay in the Lakes.
Drunken Duck Inn – AmblesideBest coffee experience of our travels. Thanks you for the good conversation as well.
Cafe Treff – AmblesideEvery visit to Ambleside needs a visit to Cafe Treff!, Great food lovely staff. If you haven't been before give it a go !!
Cafe Treff – AmblesideI bought into the hype and went straight to Lucy's on my 1st night in the Lake District, and my was I disappointed!!! The service was so horrible that I actually left feeling unhappy; the food looked like something out of a supermarket take-away bag... and I have no doubt that the drab salad leaves were exactly that! The dessert was nothing like the glorious pudding I'd anticipated, and the cost for all my dismay was way, way too high!! I eat out a lot (twice a week of late) as I travel quite a bit with my job, so I've learnt to be very accommodating of different eateries and regional tastes, but heavens!!! Lucy's is flailing on all counts! The hostess was out rightly rude, the waitresses depressingly dull, and the duck no better than a "2 dine for £10" supermarket special! Plus what is WITH the menu??! I'm only 27 and I was struggling to read it! It's neither cute nor cool... get a graphic designer, or go to a professional printers, that is just poor! I imagine that Lucy (and oh how I'd love to meet her and tell her to her face what I make of her establishment) thinks it's very clever to name drop guests on her menu, but I think her time would be better spent actually preparing the menu items! My deepest sympathies go out to anyone who actually paid to attend her cooking classes! Wow... my displeasure runs deep, but I'll stop here, with 1 final comment on hygiene: my table was sticky and dirty and despite my request to have it cleaned, it remained so! I've never felt so uncomfortable in an eatery, not even at my local kebab shop... it was horrid!! All in all: Lucy's On a Plate = Deep Dissatisfaction On a Plate! (...and in the décor, and in the service... and in the whole squalid affair!!)
Lucy’s On A Plate – AmblesideFebruary 2010. Ive just spent the weekend in Coniston and looked on sugarvine and the good food guide and saw the reviews of Lucys. It certainly didn't live up to the reviews. I had to send two drinks back which were awful, the baked bruschetta had rancid meat on it, the rest of the food was mediocre at best. We were gutted because we were really looking forward to it after reading the positive reviews, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, cheap food which was prepared badly.
Lucy4 Wine Bar and Bistro – AmblesideThe best cappuccino I have ever had! (seriously). The soup and sandwich was top quality and the service friendly. There were so many things on the menu I would have liked to try. Brilliant cafe!! I'll definitely be visiting again. Only problem is, I wish it was nearer London!!
Cafe Treff – Amblesidehad a super meal there last week service and attention very good. the steak cooked to perfection!!!" thank you
Dodds Restaurant – AmblesideVisited Cafe Treff last weekend, after a local person described it as the best coffee house in the Lake District, and how right he was!! As soon as we opened the door, we were more than impressed with the aroma of fresh quality coffee and the warm smiley welcome we were greeted with by the owners and the staff . In a few words: excellent coffee, very friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Cafe Treff – AmblesideGreat pub in the heart of the glorious Langdales. Very dog friendly too. We enjoyed a Goulash and a steak and guinness pie, hearty helpings...
Sticklebarn Tavern – Amblesidethis is the place to eat in ambleside if you love italian food &good service. wonderful atmosphere go go go to dodds
Dodds Restaurant – Amblesidewe have been going to the lake district for over 10 years and have always enjoyed our local pub/restaurant the sticklebarn.we last visited the sticklebarn 2 years ago and we were surprised how much the price of the meals had increased and we were not impressed with the quality of the food on 2 occasions during our stay.we recently visited the stickle barn this year 11th-13th june 2010 and we were really unhappy with a few things.firstly the prices had risen again (£9.25 for a burger and chips) secondly that there was no families with children??? also the management and staff were very dull in attitude.after noticing a few people had left nearly half of their dinners i decided to ask one women customer why she had left half her burger,to which she replied the burger had no taste and the bun was saturated in fat.we both agreed that the quality of the food had gone downhill in the last few years and the prices had gone up.i decided to go into ambelside where i found a really nice fish and chip shop that sold fish and chips for £5.00 which is nearly half the price of the sticklebarn, and was very happy with the portion and quality..i know where i will be eating in future when visiting great langdale...
Sticklebarn Tavern – AmblesideNice cafe, lovely decor and good menu. However staff can be a bit OTT. More American than English in service!
Cafe Treff – AmblesideOne of the best meals i've ever had. A great experience!
