Boatmans Rest – Barnsleycant really recommend this restaurant, I ordered medium to rare fillet and was served fillet well done, the dessert I and my partner ordered was the toffee lumpy bumpy and this was served straight from the freezer, was rock hard and unpalatable, when we complained about the desert the proprietor just shrugged and said sorry mate.

I would like to bring it to your attention of how disappointed my partner and I were when we visited the Eastfield Arms in Barnsley on Sunday the 11th November 2007. We ordered two meals at 2:00pm, after waiting for 45 minutes I decided to ask the person behind the bar how much longer we would have to wait. The female behind the bar said, ‘there is between a 35 and 45 minute wait which you were told about when ordering’. I explained that we had not been told of this when the food was ordered and secondly, we had now been waiting over 45 minutes. The female went into the kitchen to ‘chase up’ our meals but never returned to our table to let us know of their progress. Five minutes later another female, who was much more helpful came to our table and asked what we had ordered and apologised explaining that our order had been lost! We sat patiently observing the staff working, other customers finishing both their main courses and deserts, who incidentally ordered their meals after us and what appeared to be non-uniformed staff going in and out of the kitchen, yes non-uniformed staff in the kitchen. Whilst making a point on health and hygiene, a number of drinking glasses were also seen in the kitchen area. Correct me if I am mistaken but I believe this is not permitted. Imagine if one of those glasses were to smash, as I did hear when ordering drinks at the bar. Who knows which meals the tiny shards of glass may get into? By 3:10pm a number of other customers had passed our table while on their way to the bar and made comments to us about the amount of time we had been waiting for our meals. One of these customers, while being served at the bar kindly asked how long our meals would be. The customer was told they are coming now…. 20 minutes later at 3:30pm our food finally arrived!! The disappointment of the lengthy wait, losing our food order and disorganisation of some staff was one thing, but to receive no apology from a senior member of staff on duty really did no favours for this establishment. Before we left we explained to the manager on duty how disappointing the whole visit had been. At this stage she did apologise and give us a cash refund for our meals. My partner used to work in the realm of food and drinks service and I still do, managing a successful establishment. We do understand how pressured it can get in this environment, especially at busy times. Actually, we are probably more understanding than most other customers as a result of this. However, to receive no apology in the first instance and then to receive one only after expressing our disappointment several times I feel is such a shame. I wanted to bring this disappointment to your attention so that maybe staff can be better trained in customer service and effective management. Then hopefully, other customers will not leave feeling as disappointed as we did.
Eastfield Arms – Barnsleyfor a cheap tasty meal with friendly service cant be beaten. sunday lunches just like mum used to make and not the usual school dinner types. book early for Christmas meals so as not to be disappointed.
Rose and Crown Inn Darton – BarnsleyToday I visited this restaurant, for lunch, with my 5year old grandson. He was able to play in the indoor area whilst waiting for our meal. The food for both of us was well presented and very good. The staff were friendly and helpful especially Lynette who served and chattered with clients of all ages, producing a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised and will certainly be visiting again.
Meadows Brewers Fayre – Barnsleylovely location in pot house hamlet, we went as a family for a day out and had cream teas for two. My wife and I then booked for an evening meal on saturday night which has jazz band playing, we really enjoyed it and are going to bring friends back. Plenty of free parking right outside the door!!
Rileys at the Potting Shed – BarnsleyI'm from Huddersfield and have heard about this place so booked a Friday night when there was live music in. It has a wonderful ambiance and great decor, the food was very good and they had a good selection of wines.
Rileys at the Potting Shed – BarnsleySuch a wonderful place to bring the family, not only can you visit The Potting Shed and have an excellent lunch my boyfriend had the Swiss burger with melted cheese bacon and mushrooms and I had a warm chicken and bacon salad, yummy. There are also other places to look at a womenswear, gift shop, cards and a garden centre. Brill place, I would highly recommend the place. Also lovely staff.
Rileys at the Potting Shed – BarnsleyMenu said more than what was deliverd, average food at a high price. Environment was very good, however this did nothing to take away the bitter taste of vomit at midnight when my husband had a good dose of food poisening (which the owners strongly denied the next morning)
Rileys at the Potting Shed – Barnsleythis is the first time that we have visited and it certainly wont be the last. the staff were really friendly and polite and the food was lovely. definitely will make this a regular place to eat out!
Edmund Arms – Barnsleyvery nice food, great staff, well worth a visit
Corner Pin, The – BarnsleyMaybe it was due to the fact that there were 23 of us but I visited Romanos last night and found it appalling! I ordered Minestrone soup for starters which tasted like a pot of pepper had been dropped in it and didn’t come with any sort of bread which to me is something of a requisite when it comes to soup. For my main course i ordered steak with garlic butter I ordered it medium but when it came it was rare i would even go as far as saying it was blue it was that bloody. Like i said previously there were 23 of us but they had been told in advance we were coming and we had all told them what we wanted to eat. I really was speechless as to the quality of this restaurant. I was highly disappointed as were my colleagues. Needless to say I wont be going to this place again it is highly overpriced and the quality of food is atrocious. We weren’t only the ones who didn’t enjoy we did over hear a couple also complaining about the food. Stay well clear is my advice unless you have money to throw away!
Bistro Romanos – BarnsleyWe’ve been going ever since it opened I think the food is excellent the waiters are very friendly and the service is brilliant id recommended it to anyone, you will not be disappointed!!
The Original Dilraj – BarnsleyDecided to try somewhere else instead of Sheffield for a change, and based on recommendations on Sugarvine tried this one in Darton. What a great find, the food is simply made but cooked with great delicateness. My sisters Butter Chicken wasn't just an overpowering butter flavour but nicely nuanced. My Chicken Shashlick Karai had both the marinate and the curry flavour when you sampled it. Overall a nice place, would happily recommend and will come back in the future. Note a buffet on a Sunday £7 for a variety of courses, take your pick.
Royal Spice, The – BarnsleyGreat food, excellent service, I would definitely recommend this for anyone wanting a relaxed out-of-town indian.
Gate of India – Barnsleythis is a family pub run by anna tim and two lovely kids jenny and ellie they made us feel really welcome. the food is brill proper pub food and not expensive, the people who drink in the pub also made us feel welcome one man played pool with my son. we will be going back to the pub more often now it was a great day out.
