Service was OK but the food was less than average - due in part, I suspect, to the amount of time the chef seemed to spend outside the kitchen talking to everyone present rather than actually cooking!

Blue Ginger – Kings HeathWOW!!!!! The food is amazing, the service is excellent and not over powering, very comfortable restaurant. The prawn crackers with a bit of chilli oil on....mmmmmm Salt and Chilli Ribs.....Amazing!!! Singapore Noodles.....i could live on these!! I think I will!! Sweet and sour Prawn balls to die for. The food is the best I have ever tasted anywhere and is becoming my absolute favourite to Indian and Pizza (which I love), I think there is no comparison. 18/10 Overall 20/10 Food 9.5/10 Service Fabulous, give them a try!! You wont be disappointed
China Court Restaurant – Birmingham City CentreI really enjoyed my meal at Woks Hall on New Years Eve. They really made it special, and we had a great laugh. Best Chinese restaurant that I have been to. Staff there are fantastic.
Wok’s Hall – SolihullThis restaurant is the magic fairy secret of Kings heath. You wouldn't know it was here but go through the "magic garden" and you come across a lovely warm and well presented restaurant selling the finest organic produce. I've had several meals here and one Christmas one. They have all been to a good standard. The problem is the portion sizes which are a bit on the mean side to be honest in ratio to the cost. I know I know it's the quality of the grub that counts but give me a bit more next time please.
Kitchen Garden Cafe – Kings HeathThis could be an absolutely brilliant Indian restaurant and until recently it was one of our favorites. Usually the meals are lovely but: be prepared to pay for your poppadoms (in addition to your starter) which they don't tell you about in advance and whatever you do don't order anything mild or described as the masala because unfortunately it comes out with a bright vivid colour and (literally) the sweetness of syrup. I'm afraid that one of my friends made such a mistake and had to send the meal back although to their credit he was provided with an alternative meal at no extra cost. Well presented restaurant with excellent service but they'll have to do something about those sweeter than sweet currys!
Cafe Champagnes – WolverhamptonThis is an absolutely beautiful Indian restaurant and one I have been coming to since it opened. I have never had a disappointing meal and one of my friends comes all the way from Lichfield to sample its delights. So it's with regret that I experienced something the last few times I have been that has put me off. Perhaps success breeds contempt or complacency or maybe they were just too plain busy to bother? But the surliness of the waiters and their brusque unfriendly manner is no longer something I can put down to an off day.
Pangaea – Kings HeathI often eat at buffet island (about once a month) with my girlfriend and it never fails to please! Of all the buffets in the area, e.g. star city's flame and modern china, buffet island is the best. All the food is delicious with a fantastic range for all appetites. The staff are welcoming and the service is good without it being pushy. The price is a bargain bearing in mind what you can have - sushi, ready made chow mein, pancakes and thirty other dishes. I love this place and would recommend it strongly.
Buffet Island – ErdingtonI ate here with my 18 members of my family on 20.12.08. I found the service to be terrible, we were rushed into ordering and almost made to order poppadoms, rices and naans, when not everyone wanted them. There were no napkins at the table and no toilet paper in the toilets!! When the food arrived, most of the dishes were incorrect. I ordered a mixed Tawa. The waiter brought out a chicken tawa but said that someone had ordered it and mine was on the way. No one in our party had ordered a chicken tawa and i am sure the waiter took in back to the kitchen and added lamd and prawns to it. My dish was disgusting and most people left their meal. I was disappointed as i reg have take aways from here and do not have a problem. I dont think that they can cater for big parties. Don't know if it is coincidence but 4 out of the 18 had a bad tummy after. I would recommend the Jilabi up the road, better service all round and good food.
Spicewoods – SolihullHappened upon this restaurant when going to a concert. This is the best Chinese I've ever been to. Fab food. The vegetarian set menu was delicious - it's always hard to find decent vegetarian food on a menu.
Tin Tin Chinese Restaurant – Birmingham City CentreAn outstanding taste experience, freshly cooked 100% chicken one of the best Indian restaurants outside India
Nawab Tandoori – OldburyFantastic chips lovely tasting fish and plenty of choices on many other foods, try the Southern Fried 'wow'. But please, please some one train the male staff to smile and talk, thank goodness for the ladies
Mr Chips – KingstandingVisited here recently after reading about it, and I was not disappointed, the food was great very tastefully done, and the staff looked after myself and my guests perfectly not to aloof and not too much, but love the outside area just a shame it was too cold to go out there, but i guess i cant hold that against you, ha ha
The Beeches Bar and Grill – SolihullThe food is the real taste of India what you really get in India one of the best of its kind outside London.keep up the very good work.
Shobhas – ErdingtonThis place is brilliant - 4th time here, very clean and efficient service - no rush to finish quickly, variety of starters and main courses to suit to everyone. Chicken and Fish dishes out of this world!! Thank you for a great meal - recommend to anyone.
Rainbow Cantonese Restaurant – Birmingham City CentreLove this place been several times, first found through Sugarvine but now i know its here we visit whenever in Birmingham. Feels like your somewhere away from England!!!
Pasta Di Piazza – Birmingham City CentreLovely place, great for a romantic informal meal or just a group night out drinking, i have been several times now and one of my fave venues in st pauls square, very relaxed atmosphere, the staff are always very attentive too. keep up the good work guys.
Rectory Bar and Restaurant – Birmingham City CentreVisited here recently after reading about refurbishment and I was not disappointed, what a great job that’s been done, especially the front window, the food was fantastic almost fine dining like, and the staff looked after myself and my guests perfectly not to aloof and not too much. Thanks guys
Henry Wong – HarborneWe had read a glowing report in the local paper and had not visited this - our "local" since a poor meal 2 years ago. It will be many more than two years before we return. Table booked for 11 as it was a special evening. We were in a conservatory part of the restaurant and it was late November and far from warm. Towards the end of the meal were were wearing our coats. A very big selection of meals - large menus and specials - all to be produced from a small kitchen. We were prepared for slow service as we had visited before, but it was an hour before the starters arrived and then a long wait for the plates to be cleared and more waiting for the main course to arrive. When they did arrive, only 9 from the eleven turned up. Of these 2 were immediately returned to the kitchen as one was cold and the other not at all what was described on the menu. One of the remaining main courses turned up after 10 minutes. The final course that, I think had been completely forgotten arrived as the rest of us were finishing our meal. We will not return. If you are planning a meal to remember, you may well achieve this if you visit the Four Oaks, but not in the way you wanted. Lesson to be learnt - Don’t believe restaurant guides in paper that rely in restaurant advertisements. Lessons for the Four Oaks. Please try and concentrate on a smaller menu and try and get that right before expanding the choices so much. Don’t book for more covers than your kitchen and/or staff can handle. Dec 2008.
