Oceanna – Kings HeathLocation: India Garden Restaurant & Takeaway (992 Tyburn Road, Erdington, Birmingham) The Head Chef, Sheikh Shepon Uddins innovative approach to modern Indian cuisine attracts punters who might otherwise steer clear of traditional Indian cooking. Atmosphere and Décor: The décor gives a hint of what is to follow. Traditional Indian restaurant trappings have been eschewed in favour of an altogether more contemporary look. Subtle lighting, mellow, muted colours, with the dashes of white for impact, create a very pleasing dining environment. The atmosphere is relaxed and service goes well beyond the call of duty. Staff will always take time to explain the delights of the various dishes. Nosh and Drinks: The cooking draws on global culinary influences, yet still retains the best of traditional Indian cuisine. Everything is delicately flavoured, with no excessively hot or heavy sauces and the portions are extremely generous, enabling diners to savour the delicacy of each dish. Innovative combinations and deliciously subtle sauces feature strongly on the menu. Starters might include Garlic Chicken Tikka, marinated to perfection and coated in wonderful Modhu Sauce, or Tandoori, Home-Smoked Fish with Mustard and Dill. For main course, try South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken with Spicy Sauce and Fenugreek, Kashmiri Rogan Josh, Combination Dishes allowing sampling of different dishes, or India Garden Special Biryani, garnished with Battered Bananas & Egg. Desserts, in keeping with the rest of the menu, are imaginative and tempting and may include Pineapple Fritter with Honey & Rasmali, or Kulfi (Indian Ice Cream). A set lunch costs approximately £7.50 and a set dinner, around £10. The drinks list is extensive with a huge selection of beers, wines & spirits. The Experience: To experience the perfect fusion of modern and traditional Indian cuisine, a visit to India Garden is a must.
India Garden – ErdingtonAverage food, nothing much exciting, would suit more of your after pub closing type of clientele as there were plenty of them when we visited.
Curry Garden – ErdingtonA very modern looking restaurant with a great atmosphere. Excellent quality food with variation of dishes. Restaurant is very appealing and clean. Staff helpful and food and drinks at reasonable prices.
B26 Food Of India – SheldonThe restaurant had a very good atmosphere. Food was of very good quality and staff was very helpful at all times. It was fun atmosphere, our waitress was really funny, even when it was really busy on the place, and she kept dancing and singing around with all her colleagues
La Tasca – Solihullthe food is amazing the taste the smell its just out of this world
Bilash Balti and Tandoori Restaurant – KingstandingVisiting from Dublin.... atmosphere great. Very impressed with quality of service.... food great
Thai Edge – Birmingham City CentreThe food is still the best compared to all other Buffet Restaurant I've been too. The new function room facility is a plus with Karaoke entertainment. (I've a party of 20 on a Friday night, and it was fantastic). My best advice is book early for the weekend.
Wok’s Hall – SolihullThe quality of the food here is exceptional, and despite being very busy, our service was swift. My only gripes really would be that we requested condiments (just some soy sauce actually) more than once, but the busy staff seem to have forgotten this request the second they moved away from our table! It was also difficult to get the combination of things we wanted on the set menus, so we ordered various separate dishes to share. In terms of cost, we ordered soups, mixed starters for 4 people, 5 different main courses, 2 portions of noodles and 2 egg fried rice, and a bottle of house white wine, and it came to £30 per head (4 people) including service charge. This is a little bit more than I would like to pay normally, but I have probably been spoiled by restaurants I know that charge £15 per person for an all-you-can-eat menu...freshly cooked food, not a buffet. Go with the set meal's for however many people if you can find one that suits, as it appeared to work out somewhat cheaper that way. NB - your bill comes with 10% service charge already added. Great for those that tip as the maths has already been done. Not great for those that prefer to tip based on whether or not they thought the service was good! I didn't mind at all, as my service was generally good all evening. I would highly recommend the seafood dishes to any fish fans, and also the sizzling dishes. The location is great, surrounded by several nice bars for a pre or post meal drink.
Tin Tin Chinese Restaurant – Birmingham City CentreYou might be mistaken for being in Madrid when you come here. The menu is affordable and our favourite is the seafood paella and mussels. The back drop is relaxed, intimate and refreshingly Spanish. La Plancha has innovation and flair. Look out for the specials on the board as these aren? always made apparent.
La Plancha Spanish Tapas and Cocktail Bar – MoseleyI went to this restaurant on a Thursday night, thinking that there would be plenty of tables available to my surprise the restaurant was very busy with limited space available - always a good sign! The service was very good and the food was the tastiest Chinese that I have had for a long time. I will certainly be going for another meal here very soon. The food was very good value for money - Three main courses, 2 desserts, 2 coffees and a bottle of wine for under £50.00.
Chung Ying Cantonese – Birmingham City CentreI went to the restaurant having heard so many spectacular reviews about it, and am pleased to say that I am not disappointed. Upon entering the restaurant, the staff greeted me in an extremely friendly manner and continued to be helpful and attentive throughout our stay. The food was of an excellent quality and i was particularly impressed by the rate of turnover. Furthermore, my daughter is vegetarian and another member of my party only likes English food. Not a problem, immediately, the staff offered to get something prepared for us especially. Outstanding service and will definitely recommend this restaurant.
Wok’s Hall – SolihullThe Blake Barn provides two for one dining. We chose steak and scampi. The food was well cooked and tasty with an excellent salad garnish. The staff are all lovely, This is a very popular local pub which I would recommend but, get there early!
Blake Barn The – Sutton ColdfieldThe old man and I visit Sabai Sabai probably, oooooh, once a month or so - we just can't help ourselves. The food's fresh, delicious and (apparently) authentic-tasting. It also won't break the bank by any means - £20-a-head for wine, starters, mains and side dishes so, fantastic value for money. The service is really friendly and the music (laid back hip-hop kind of stuff) gives the place a relaxed atmosphere. The tables, however, are quite squished together (I don't want it fully booked next time we go) ...
Sabai Sabai – MoseleyLovely food at this Balti House and the staff are very friendly and efficient, the only downside is the fact that the premises is very small and tends to be a little cramped especially if there is a large group of you.
Streetly Balti – Sutton ColdfieldHad a nice starter of mix mezze including a nice hummus and aubergine dips. The Shiraz bread was very nice too the manager was very polite giving us free tasters such as pickles and baklava. Only downside no segregation for smokers and non-smokers.
Shiraz – EdgbastonI really enjoyed my night a buffet island. The food is amazing and there is so much choice. It can get crowded at times in the buffet area. The drinks are quite expensive, and when asking for a jug of water to accompany our drinks they only would serve bottled water at a quite expensive price. This however is the catch to such a wonderful price for an incredible amount of food. I suggest you go hungry and get your money's worth! Fri- Saturday nights are £12.90 pp the rest of the week is £10.90 pp. Lunchtimes are very reasonable !
Buffet Island – ErdingtonI would highly recommend China Garden. Since moving to Birmingham nearly 4 years ago, we have tried a lot of different Chinese restaurants in the area - I can honestly say that none compare! It may cost you an extra £1 per dish than others, but definitely worth it! (And they now deliver)
