Went to the Outside Inn Blackpool for a meal last Friday lunchtime (30th May 2008) We have just moved into an office in the Business Park next to the pub, and this was going to be a regular lunchtime dining venue for us...not anymore!! To start with service was slow, and even though it is pretty obvious that most people in there were office workers on a lunch 'hour'....there seemed no hurry to get your order, or bring out your food and drinks. But the main problem was that I ordered a vegetarian lasagne off the specials board, when this finally arrived, about half an hour after ordering, I has horrified to discover it was a meat lasagne. After pointing this to the waitress, she offered me another veggie lasagne. I declined this offer as I was due back in work and not feeling hungry anymore, but she insisted it "will only take 2 minutes to heat up." Funny that as the original order took half an hour to come out. I really wasn't hungry anymore but in the end I agreed to get a quick salad. Everyone else finished their meal and my salad still hadn't arrived 15 minutes later, and I was feeling ill so I went out to get some fresh air. A couple of minutes later one of my group came out and told me not to bother going back in as the waitress just bought me out a Chicken salad!! Fair enough I can understand the mix up with the lasagne was a genuine mistake, but then to give a chicken salad to a veggie was an insult to me and deeply offensive to me and my beliefs. To make matters even worse when the rest of my group tried to settle the bill they were given a discount of a couple of pounds only. Only after some negotiation did they get a £5 reduction on the total bill and no real apology. Even though I was the only veggie in the group, everyone who I was with was shocked about the customer service we received and the lack of knowledge from restaurant staff about my vegetarian dietary requirements. Which is something everyone working in the catering trade should be aware of.
