Blue Smoke On The Bay, Windermere
The Low Wood has graced the shores of Windermere for some 300 years and in 1906, as the header image shows, was already a majestic lakeshore presence. The latest custodians of this historic property are English Lakes Hotels who are in the midst of a £16 million redevelopment that will turn the Low Wood into a world class resort. A brand new spa is opening in this year and the Low Wood’s newest restaurant, Blue Smoke On The Bay, opened at the end of 2017.
The centrepiece of the restaurant is a three-metre-long double woodfired grill where the chefs prepare a range of international dishes cooked over hot embers. As well as creating a real sense of visual theatre, it imparts delicious flavour to aged steaks, meats, fish and vegetables with sustainable British wood such as elder, birch and oak used as well as imported olive wood.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day and enjoys stunning views out over the lake. The menus are complemented by a large and diverse wine selection – including 24 by the glass and 15 special wines in magnum. The cocktail selection is inspired by rums and bourbons and The Rum Room, which is available for private dining, has a selection of 40 rums and bourbons to choose from.
