Britain’s Most Dog-Friendly Pub
Our four-legged friends don’t always get welcomed with open arms so to help spread the word about dog-friendly establishments, DogBuddy.com launched the Dog Friendly Pub Awards last year. This year’s winner - as chosen by the online dog-sitting platform, the RSPCA, Snuffle Dog Beer, The Morning Advertiser and Your Dog magazine - is the Fox & Hounds at Theale, near Reading.
Four-legged visitors to the Fox & Hounds can expect water, treats and even a nibble or two from the kitchen. And after a stroll around nearby Hosehill Lake they can get a towel or soapy bucket of water to clean up. They are welcome inside in the bar and restaurant as well as in the enclosed garden and their two-legged companions can tuck into a rotating selection of real ales and quality country cooking.
Jayne Tilsley, general manager of the Fox & Hounds, is delighted with the results, “Dogs are not pets, they are family, and to us this means that they should join you everywhere, be it just for a drink or dinner too.”
The pub beat off 11 other regional winners to claim the top spot:
The Fox and Hounds, Devizes (South West)
The Hand in Hand, Wimbledon Common (London)
The Three Tuns, Great Hormead, Herts (East of England)
The Fullerton Arms, Ballycastle (Northern Ireland)
The Caledonia, Liverpool (North West)
The Keel Row, Whitley Bay (North East)
The Lion Inn, Nottingham (East Midlands)
The Bryntirion Inn, Llandderfel (Wales)
The Old Glen House, Shipley (Yorkshire)
Failford Inn, Mauchline (Scotland)
The Bailey Head, Oswestry (West Midlands)

The landlord welcomes pets and our newly adopted bulldog who had not been eating or drinking all day. Tucked into some beer batteries fish with as much delight as we did.. I would go there again and again. We rounded off the meal with iced berries in white chocolate. Which was to die for ...
