An Expensive Wee Dram
With Burns Night fast approaching, that essential ingredient – whisky – has hit the headlines recently. A new world record has been set at auction for a single bottle of malt whisky with an American investor paying £11,900 for a bottle of 1964 Oloroso Cask Second Edition Black Bowmore. It was first released in a batch of 2000 bottles in the mid-1990s and retailed for around £80. It might be worth having a rummage around the back of your drinks cabinet…
Another whisky-related world record was set at the end of 2017 by the Glenesk Hotel in the village of Edzell in the Scottish Highlands. It has a selection of 1,031 whiskies available for sale behind the bar which has been verified by Guinness World Records. You can choose a drop from every working distillery in Scotland with the most expensive bottle a 25-year-old Lagavulin at £248 a measure. There are tasting notes at the bar for every single bottle on offer.
