Handmade Burger Co Collapses Into Administration

The Handmade Burger Co has been placed into administration putting thousands of jobs at risk. The chain operates 29 venues across the country and nine have already closed their doors – the branches in Gateshead, Glasgow, East Kilbride, Wakefield, Nottingham, Birmingham, Leeds and two in Newcastle. The remaining 20 are currently still trading as administrators Leonard Curtis look for a potential buyer.

The independent family run business started life in 2006 with a Birmingham restaurant and then expanded rapidly as the UK restaurant scene moved out of recession and diners discovered the ‘gourmet’ burger. The Handmade Burger Co has a choice of around 40 different burgers on the menu. But competition in the casual dining sector has been increasingly fierce and the future of the remaining outlets is in the balance.
