Do You Know Tim Horton?
If not, you soon will do. The Canadian coffee shop company opened its first UK outlet in Glasgow in June this year and is set to open stores in Manchester, Belfast and Cardiff over the next 12 months as the start of a major UK rollout. The company, which was founded in the 1960s by Canadian ice hockey star Tim Horton, doesn’t do things by halves. Nearly eight out of 10 coffees sold in Canada every day are served in Tim Hortons, 15% of the Canadian population visit a Tim Hortons each day and it currently has more than 4,500 stores worldwide.
You might need to get to grips with the Tim Hortons lingo too, in particular the ‘double-double’ which – as any Canadian will tell you -- is a coffee with double cream and double sugar. Timbits are also on the way – bite-size donuts served in a variety of flavours. The extensive Tim Hortons menu offers a wide range of coffees, teas and frozen drinks as well as breakfast items, soups, salads and sandwiches, baked goods and pastries.
