‘Les Enfants’ From Mere Green Primary Star In Video

Children from Mere Green Primary School have become stars of a new video launching a French themed activity pack and children’s menu for one of the UK’s leading restaurants. Bistrot Pierre, which opened in Mere Green in March, is relaunching Menu Enfant a 14-page booklet which includes games, puzzles and useful phrases to help children learn French.

Nine children aged 7 –11 from the school were invited to sample the two-course menu and try their hand at speaking French, the French word search and Ou Est Pierre, the French version of Where’s Wally as well as other activities such as colouring and spot the difference. Their views on the booklet and the dishes form part of a video which explains the story behind the pack, which is now available in all bistrots across the UK. Ruby aged 8 said: “While you are doing the activities, you get to learn a bit of French as well,” and Lucy aged 8 said: “It has a lot of activities so you don’t have to sit and wait for the food you can entertain yourself.” Anna Balson, head teacher from Mere Green Primary School added: “The children were really excited to take part in this opportunity with Bistrot Pierre. The project gave our children an opportunity to learn more about the French language and have a go at speaking French to the staff and each other. Taking part in the video gave the children a confidence boost and was a new experience for them, which we actively encourage at school.”

Rob Beacham, co-owner of Bistrot Pierre said: “Since opening in March we’re been consistently busy and continue to welcome families, friends and couples to dine with us. Menu Enfant is proving really popular with children and parents, and we’re thrilled that these children from Mere Green Primary School were happy to be a part of our video.”  Julia Whitehead, established illustrator and mum of two children created Menu Enfant. “My motivation for the children’s packs came from my own experiences eating out at restaurants with my two children. A lot of kids’ packs are often very simplified and don’t cater for all ages or abilities, I really wanted to create something more engaging that would entertain all ages,” said Julia. Menu Enfant includes a choice of main: roasted chicken breast, fish goujons, omelettes (with choice of filling), macaroni cheese, burger, croque monsieur, dessert: coupe fraise, chocolate torte, ice cream and choice of a drink for £6.50.
