The Great Wirral Afternoon Tea
For the first time ever, 16 of the UK’s top Afternoon Tea destinations went head-to-head last month in the Live Final of the Afternoon Tea of the Year awards at Westminster Boating Base in London. The Lawns Restaurant at Thornton Hall on the Wirral was the only finalist from outside the capital but won the Best Tasting Afternoon Tea of the Year category.
“From dry ice to Disney themes, beer pairing to musical accompaniment and the traditional to the ultra-modern, the innovation we have seen from the finalists has really blown the judges away,” says Editor of Hotel F&B magazine Joe Bill. “The standard of food and tea pairings was exceptional. Some of these hotels have spent years refining their afternoon tea service and they really brought their ‘A’ game the first ever awards.”
The Great Wirral Afternoon Tea is available every day at Thornton Hall but booking is strongly advised. There’s an extensive range of teas available to suit every mood, from English Breakfast to Rose Petal Mandarin along with coffees and Belgian hot chocolate. A good choice of finger sandwiches, cakes, fruit and plain scones and savouries features with jams and curds from Pant Glas Bach Preserves in North Wales. Add a glass of prosecco or Joseph Perrier champagne if you are feeling really indulgent!
