UK’s Highest Pub Goes Up For Sale
If you’re looking for a ‘top’ job and don’t mind the odd bit of inclement weather and a remote location, then landlord (or landlady) at the Tan Hill Inn might fit the bill. There’s also the small matter though of the £900,000 it would cost you for the freehold of this 17th century listed pub which is now on the market. At 1,732 feet above sea level, it’s 42 feet higher than its closest challenger, the Cat and Fiddle Inn in the Peak District (which is currently closed).
The pub sits on the Pennine Way in the Yorkshire Dales near Keld in Swaledale and is regularly cut off for days at a time by heavy snowfalls in winter. But it's a great place to get stuck with its exposed beams, stone-flagged floors and a roaring fire. There are also seven comfortable rooms, as well as camping for the brave (or stupid), so if you fancy a getaway with a difference, The Tan Hill might be for you.
