Brent House – Weston Super MareThe menu serves Japanese food, but it's not close enough to what it's suppose to be, and I feel slight resentment that this place is called Japanese restaurant, because as far as I am concerned, it serves bastardised mock-Japanese food. Rice used for sushi was hard - it was clear the rice was chilled in the fridge as well, something no respectable Japanese restaurant will ever do! That is one of the worst mistake non-Japanese make with sushi, it's unbelievably poor. Yakitori again, was close enough to what you would be served in Japan but not close enough to be worth the price. If you want nice sushi, just go to Yo! Sushi; ok, so they serve westernised bastardised mock-Japanese food as well but at least their rice used in sushi hasn't been put in fridge until it goes hard.
Obento – Bristol City CentreWent there for dinner 3rd and 4th of October 2008. Excellent service, excellent food well cooked and well presented. Theresa has a warm and friendly manner - first impressions count and Theresa impresses. Kerry is a very efficient, helpful and pleasant waitress - she behaves as if she enjoys serving you. Richard is an accomplished chef - knows about taste, texture and presentation. Very good prices, real value for money.
Cobblestones – MineheadThe Plough was a really good find. The ambiance was of old beams, stuffed trout on the wall and a roaring fire in an inglenook fireplace. The food was splendid, chosen from a small menu; no articulated lorries delivering choice and value but only moderately good taste- no it was just delicious food at the Plough. The price was acceptable too. The Beer was something to write about as well- bright as a star with a handsome taste. As my wife said, as the winter draws on we shall be going back there to roast ourselves in the inglenook and enjoy a pint or two of good English ale, and good local food.
The Plough Inn – BlagdonReally tasty dishes - freshness of the salmon was unbelievable. Loads of cooked sushi options too which my partner chose as he doesn't like raw fish. Meal for 2 including sake was under 35 pounds which we thought was very good valued. Highly recommended!
Obento – Bristol City CentreNot a good option if you are a vegetarian. The food I was served tasted of meat, and not of the original vegetables and other ingredients. Not a good choice if you are a real vegetarian. Feedback to Boujolais would be to spend a bit more time and clean the pans so clean of meat before cooking a vegetarian option. Restaurants shouldn't offer a veg option if they are not prepared to do it properly. Very disappointing. Not recommended.
Beaujolais Bistro Bar – BathExcellent food. Really nice ambiance. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Sands Restaurant – CliftonLovely food most of the time, but difficult to get an answer to the phone when trying to book which means that you end up wondering if you've got your table or not ! Waitress can be a bit too moody too, but they're always full, so must be doing something right !
La Bonne Vie – Tauntonwhat can i say about this restaurant but it is the best!! we have been going there for many years and love the food and the hospitality. jennie and gary
Golden House – MineheadWe visited Zen a couple of weeks ago and they really have gone to town on the decor. A lot of money has been spent here on creating this establishment and they've done a pretty good job. My only concern with the venue itself are the very high ceilings. It's not particularly intimate and feels too big. The food however is very good quality and I for one really enjoyed it. it's not your normal Chinese restaurant, no Chow Mien on or anglo-chinese creations. Very authentic, good service (although a little bit too in your face at times - constantly topping up your water after a few sips is not really necessary!) I would go back again, but my partner found everything a little too spicy. One for the more adventurous. Would be a great place for a larger party.
Zen – Bristol City CentreWent to Prosecco last night with my sister. I used to live in Northern Italy and am reasonably knowledgeable about the regional cuisine. Was impressed with the food at Prosecco- we had the watermelon, mozzarella and black pepper starter and the balsamic asparagus with Parmesan- both delicious. My linguine with Cornish mussels and chili was wonderful, full of flavour and my sister asked to replace a gnocchi dish with the same sauce which they were happy to do. The place could do with doing a few more pasta dishes and is very small, we were quite cramped by a large table of 10 and couldn't here a word the waitress said! Food though excellent, request table by the window.
Prosecco – CliftonBauhinia is my failsafe Clifton restaurant. Very reasonably priced food and great service in lovely surroundings with good music (count how many Bristol bands: tricky, massive attack, portishead etc!) I take all visiting friends to Bauhinia and they always love it. Lotus/ Lychee cocktails are a must, duck wraps and fishcakes are great and the choc firecrackers are delicious!
Bauhinia – Cliftonchoice and quality of food is good. great apple pie. good atmosphere and excellent service
Chicago Rock Cafe – YeovilWent to the Star and Dove after watching Eamonn Fullalove (awesome name) host a food masterclass at the Food and Wine Fair. Went along to the pub which has a bar downstairs and the restaurant upstairs. Great food, great atmosphere, great wine!! Definitely going again.
The Star and Dove – BedminsterPlantation is simply out of this world. First high class Caribbean Restaurant in Bristol. It has an open kitchen. And, your meal is prepared right in front of your eyes. How cool is that? Personally, I am addicted to plantation's fried and baked plantains.. Did you know? Plantation Restaurant owners introduced the no-smoking ban long before the Government got round to implementing it. I remember a belly dancing show as part of a charity event at the restaurant. I actually felt being outside my own body. Which other place can provide you with such experiences. I hope you have similar experiences when you next visit the restaurant and write about them.. I recommend plantation as the only venue for your night out. Why not book your party.. This Restaurant has the space to host a large party.. Have your there and then write about it here..
Plantation – Bristol City Centrethe best Chinese restaurant in Frome, excellent service and the best Chinese i ever tasted, highly recommend.
Dragon Pearl – FromeWonderful food and excellent service! Great, varied menu with a range of prices and value deals at certain times. We never tire of visiting Beefeater restaurants and are regulars at this one, which is our local. Highly recommended!
Beefeater and Travel Inn – Weston Super Marewicked pub/restaurant right on the edge of Victoria Park with a great beer garden. i found this little gem with my boyfriend, the interior is an eclectic mix of restored furniture and big cosy chairs. the food was fantastic, nothing over complicated just cooked so well. There was an upstairs restaurant too but didn't get a chance to go up and have a look so don't know what that was like, seemed busy though.
