Agra Indian Restaurant – BurnleyExcellent value for money, very good service and food. Favourites are curry and aromatic duck. We go quite often and the staff are always pleasant.
Oriental Buffet Restaurant – BurnleyAfter booking a table on a sunday evening, and arriving a little bit early for drinks. we found they had no knowledge of our reservation. Service from the floor staff seemed a little rushed, dirty linen on the table was slightly off putting, However. we ordered and found that the food was absolutely great. Beautifully presented, wonderful flavours and perfect wine. All in all, a lovely meal. After been over charged!! front of house could maybe do with a refresher course on customer service. But kitchen was bob on!!
The Fence Gate – BurnleyI had lunch here (January 2008) and was most disappointed. My starter which was king scallops on risotto, had completely cold scallops, which was unpleasant to say the least. the risotto was delicous though. there was a drizzle of a pretty apricot coloured "jus" around the plate, unfortunately I can't tell you what it was, as it had absolutely no taste whatsoever. My main course was advertised on the menu as "crispy slow roasted bellypork, with caramelised onions, neeps and tatties, red wine jus and our own apple sauce". Well when it came there were no neeps, neeps being one of the reasons I chose the dish. instead there was practically raw shredded cabbage which was tepid, NO apple sauce, NO red wine jus, some onions that were definitely not caramelised, and a piece of "crackling" stuck into the mash like a wafer on an ice cream cone. When i bit into the crackling (which i usually adore), I felt sick as my mouth filled with cooking oil. The crackling had clearly been fried in oil, it was awful. The mashed potatoes were okay, the pork was tender enough and had a nice layer of fat, but was quite tasteless. Really this dish bore no real resemblance to the one promised on the menu. The people with me had mushroom soup which was tepid at most, with a helping of an ultra garlicy oil on top of it, which really seemed surplus to requirements. Believe it or not im not a particularly fussy eater, but the food at this place, after looking so good on the menu, and having good reviews was a serious let down. My cold scallops were awful and the pork dish was poor, no other way to put it, and it was £11 for that poor quality. I was not then suprised to hear another person that day say "yes the food looks great on the plates, but it doesn't taste very good". I won't go back there again, and i honestly don't know why it has a good reputation. It was quiet when we were in so the chef couldnt have been rushed off his feet, and the waitresses took over ten minutes to tot up our very simple bill.
The Sparrowhawk – BurnleyWe were treated to a wonderful meal at the Pendle Inn on Friday 11th December in the stunningly refurbished restaurant. The whole inn has just undergone a complete makeover and is now a dream to visit. The food was excellent and we would not hesitate to return. I imagine this is a hidden gem about to be discovered when others realise the quality of the food, service, atmosphere and surroundings are outstanding. Well done and good luck.
Pendle Inn – BurnleyFantastic Weekend. It was everything we ever dreamed of. Many thanks to Joanne and David, love Emma and Stephen Walsh. (Wedding on 3rd December)
Pendle Inn – BurnleyThe service was very quick which i thought was good untill i tasted the food that is, and realised microwaved food doesnt take that long anyway. My childrens food was very dry and the chips were cold, i got chicken breast which was rubbery from the microwave it was dry and tasteless and the coleslaw was sour, my husband asked for medium rare steak on his mixed grill which ended up over cooked along with the gammon, but the chicken again was like rubber. We then headed for the play area which was good untill a group of boys started bulling my 4 and 8 year old daughters, one even pushed my 4 year old down the ramp, when i complained the manager told us that it was our job to supervise the children not hers, which we never left them once, we told her she was there to have authority to what goes on and she then told us it was our little girls fault for playing at the top, which i dont understand as there is only 2 levels and the bottom is mainly for toddlers, or what do you pay full price for, so what she was saying was the boys had right to bully my 4 year old as she was in the wrong place, we took our children out after only 30 minutes after paying for an hour and asked for our money back, the manager pulled her face and reluctantly gave us half back which is not much compensation for what the children went through, money didnt matter it was the fact that my children had to stop their playtime because the manager allowed bullying, we didnt even get a sorry, so i told her i was disgusted that she allowed bullying and she told us not to come back, so my children get bullied and we get barred.
Hollywood Star – BurnleyBrilliant
Pendle Inn – BurnleyMyself and my girlfriend took time to go to the Pendle inn. We stayed in one of their lovely cottages for the weekend. We ate lunch and dinner their, the food was brilliant, we had a hot sandwich and a seabass dish for lunch. The bill came to £20 including a drink each. Our evening meal was even more enjoyable. I had a lamb rump steak which was their own breed, my girlfriend had their most popular chicken dish, it had a strange name but tasted fantastic. It has improved since we last went there last summer and we will certainly return again. Well done Keep it up
Pendle Inn – Burnleyi love going to mamma mia's it is one of my fave restaurants. the food is yummy, the decor is nice, and also the people are amazing. I love there 2 big fluffy dogs that live upstairs they are the cutest things ever. Going to mamma mias is a good idea. Mamma mia is runned my 2 of the most wonderful people, i recommended mamma mias to anyone that wants a good night out!!!
Mamma Mia – BurnleyI had heard a lot about the place so it had a lot to live up to. The food was excellent The service was attentive but I felt a little rushed with a definite feeling we were expected to vacate the table sooner rather than later. Value for money wise for what I ordered I thought prices were a little on the expensive side. Having dined locally at other establishments and ordered similar dishes Agra was expensive.
Agra Indian Restaurant – BurnleyHaving read many reviews on Mamma Mias I was expecting great things. Oh dear. Very disappointed. The starters were cold, the well done steak was rare, there was no atmosphere etc etc. We were not the only ones to complain that night - two others sent their meals back for being cold. Food was tasteless, decor was in serious need of an up date. Will not return.
Mamma Mia – BurnleyI went to the Restaurant in a party of nine on Sunday 28th October. We arrived late not our fault but never the less there was no problem with the booking. We had a lovely meal in very pleasant surroundings and nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Would recommend Fence Gate Inn to anybody Well Done.
The Fence Gate – BurnleyI Love Agra!!!! Wohooo
Agra Indian Restaurant – BurnleyThe place looks great as it's recently been modernised and a conservatory area added to the front aspect. It's very bright, open and airy. The service however was very slow and it wasn't that busy as it was well after the lunch time rush when we decided to sit down to eat. We had to stand in a queue at the till to order and what a wait we had!!!We were served our drinks....bottled water and took our seats. Then we waited 15 mins. for two sandwiches and a plate of chips. The food was well cooked but average, chips, pies, sandwiches, toasties etc. The prices were too high, in our opinion.
Old Stables The – BurnleyThe food and service at this restaurant is of very high quality. There are a number of waiters with a great knowledge, polite and a good smile.well spoken Boss, who shared his great knowledge of food and his 25+ years in the tread! The setting and location is unbeatable. I would highly recommend this place to someone who likes Indian food. Smith & Friends
