Yarrow Bridge Inn – ChorleyWe chose The Pines to celebrate a family birthday, and twelve of us spent a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon here on a beautiful sunny October day. After drinks in the airy conservatory area, we were seated in a private side room, which was perfect for the occasion and were looked after very well indeed throughout the afternoon. The food and service were good, and I would highly recommend The Pines for a special family occasion.
Haworths Restaurant at The Pines Hotel – Chorley17/10/08 Friday evening reservation at 9pm at the Shanghai Chorley. First time visitor and my opinion of this restaurant could not be more divided. On the one hand I thought the food was very good, you could tell that fresh ingredients were used and it was fairly well presented. 8/10. On the other hand the service was, in my opinion, extremely poor which was somewhat surprising as there were only three tables occupied so you would have thought that you would receive a high standard, sadly not so. Our waitress was clearly wanting to go home. We had sat down at our table and within less than 30 seconds she had presented us with the menu and asked us if we were ready to order!!! I said please leave us to look at the menu for a few minutes. 1 minute went by and I kid you not she was back and stayed at our table until we had chosen our starter and main course. Our bottle of red (not what was on the wine menu, but a minor hiccup) and starter arrived within 5 minutes. After consuming our plates were removed and replaced with our main course within a few minutes. After enjoying the food we were finishing off our bottle of plonk (time was only 9.55) and they must have decided that they were not going to get any further business that evening because the main lights directly over out table were switched on. Suffice it to say we were not tempted to look at the sweet menu and asked for our bill and after waiting about ten minutes for it to arrive paid at the bar. Great food but sadly appalling service.
Shanghai – Chorleyhad my hen party there last Saturday and what a night. good food, great atmosphere and fantastic hands on staff. a must if you haven't tried it, Laura
Boatel Party Cruises – ChorleyWe are regular visitors to Amelies but not as regular as our friends the Gibbons/Dunn. We go every opportunity when we have no other commitment but our friends say as they always eat out just one night a week they see no reason to even try anywhere else as the food is excellent, the atmosphere is extremely friendly and Annamarie is very accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. It is excellent value for money and by far the best restaurant in our opinion within a 20 mile radius. We shall be going again very soon with some of our other friends whom we wish to introduce to Amelies. Christine Moorhouse
Amelies – ChorleyHad lunch at the Railway yesterday, 16/09/08, and cannot praise it highly enough. The food was great and the staff attentive and caring. We had a baby with us and the staff seated us at a good sized table and couldn't do enough to help. Prices reasonable for quality of food too. Fudge with coffee to die for!! I'll definitely be back
The Railway Tavern Euxton – ChorleyThe Farmers in Eccleston has a fantastic and varied menu, we have been on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. Being a vegetarian who is often disappointed with the lack of choice and imagination on the menu, I am always pleasantly surprised when dining here!
Original Farmers Arms – ChorleyGreat 2 for 1 deal before 7pm. New Season comes close to being an excellent place to eat. The restaurant is cosy and generates a good atmosphere. The food is excellent, all freshly prepared and it shows, very impressive. The service though, at least on the night that we visited, left a lot to be desired. The front of house staff were courteous, but not overly attentive, our glasses sat empty for long periods whilst we tried to attract service and our desert never arrived. We could easily have spent another £20 on drinks etc. That said the food and the atmosphere were sufficient to mask this.
Seasons – Chorleygreat restaurant been going for 20 years, and am still seeing the same owner and head chef, great to see that, not many places would be able to, got to be doing some thing right,
Alghero – ChorleyAs I work locally, I have visited the Railway on several occasions with colleagues and family and always enjoyed it, however on the last two occasions I have noticed a decline in both the standard of food and waiting time. The first time, in early July, I put down to a blip, but on this occasion, we experienced a 30 minute wait for starters which were little more than assembly jobs (paté, mozarella salad, cheese on toast) and then another 30-40 minute wait for 4 main courses in a restaurant that was about one third full at the most. When they arrived, my husband's cheese and onion pie and my daughter's fish pie were so hot as to be inedible for at least another 10 minutes. My 11 year old son's burger arrived 5-10 minutes after the other courses. In addition, the dishes weren't quite as described on the menu - my 'roast pork chops' were obviously grilled and though tasty were quite tough. The 'beef tomatoes' were unripe salad tomatoes and the fish pie came, rather oddly, with a large slice of bread and butter. The burger was very rare in the middle - I think it had been forgotten about and was rushed out. I did mention the wait and asked the pleasant waitress to convey my comments to the kitchen, but nothing was done about them. Although there are still many positives about this place, I won't go back until I hear things have improved.
The Railway Tavern Euxton – ChorleyTo us, Amelies , which we came across in late June is a real “gem “as the food is truly out of the ordinary which is refreshing in a time of increasing standardisation. We have visited on several occasions, sometimes on our own and sometimes with family or friends and each time have been delighted with the quality and exquisite taste of the food, the thoughtful and innovative presentation by Olivier and the charming and pleasant yet professional service of Annamaria. We are looking forward to our next visit because whilst there will be some dishes which , in a short time ,we have come to know and love there will be new ones to sample as the menu changes frequently.
Amelies – ChorleyI had a fab meal at the Alghero, it was a birthday meal, really enjoyed the night food was very very good (FISH CAKE). Amazing staff very friendly and great service
Alghero – ChorleyWe have been going to the Yew Tree for special occasions for over 36 years and we have never been disappointed. Wedding anniversary coming up and we will be there!
Yew Tree Inn – ChorleyComments on second visit to Amelies: WOW pre dinner appetizers served with panache - and very delicious too! Service was outstanding, even though it was a quiet, weekday night (Tuesday). Menu was diverse but uncomplicated. Set Menu had more than enough to satisfy - other diners were oohing and aahing in equal measures. All food taken was above expectations. Attention to detail was most impressive. And then the bill - How do they do it!!! What a lovely way to celebrate your wedding anniversary! Thanks again, Annamaria and Olivier.
Amelies – ChorleySince Olivier and AnnaMaria have taken over and renamed Coppull Moor after their daughter, we used the restaurant for a family function, out of hours, in the afternoon. The buffet provided was a 'feast' with a huge selection of hot and cold dishes to suit all tastes; the service was impeccable and even though the event followed on from a much loved Aunt's funeral, all the guests were delighted with the experience. Definitely a place to visit again!
Amelies – ChorleyI did love Massa's on Cunliffe St. in Chorley until we were refused a food order last year when we went in after 4.30pm on a Saturday - I think they had cleaned the coffee machine and couldn't be bothered making our order up as they were closing soon; we went elsewhere in town and were served...ever since then we have not been into Massa's. Our family used to meet there for a coffee/ice cream on a regular basis, we were disappointed with their poor service from the young staff on this visit. A shame because their ice cream is delicious.

Frederick’s Ice Cream Parlour & Coffee Bar – ChorleyMy boyfriend and I went to this restaurant after so many of our friends recommended it and while the food was excellent, we left disappointed because of the service. We booked a table for 8:00 on a Friday night and arrived at 10 to 8. As soon as we stepped foot into the bar/waiting area we were greeted by plenty of peculiar looks as we were the only 19/20-year-olds in the restaurant. We were kept waiting for about 45 minutes while there were at least 10 empty tables behind us and the hostess stood behind the bar chatting animatedly to an older couple. Only when the chef (who actually served us our drinks & hor h'oeuvres earlier) came back of the kitchen and had a very loud word with the hostess did she take our order and lead us to our table. Once at the table, my boyfriend pointed out that there was still cling film on our bread basket and even after the hostess came over with our drinks, the crumpled cling film was still left on the table. The food was beautiful but we couldn't help but feel that we'd been discriminated upon because of our age. On our way out, we passed those still empty tables and the hostess who was once again disregarded our presence. Needless to say, we will not be returning.
