Seasons – ChorleyI recently visited The Yew Tree Inn with some friends. Without exception, we were all disappointed with our experience and unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant. We waited almost an hour after placing our orders before we were invited to a table. When we were served, we had to ask after some minutes for our vegetables and potatoes which appeared to have been forgotten. The quality of cooking and presentation was poor, two of us receiving hard and burned food. The kitchen is open to the restaurant leaving our clothes smelling of greasy cooking odours.
Yew Tree Inn – ChorleyFantastic! Our ten guests joined us in celebrating our sons 21st birthday on a busy Saturday evening. By request, we were accommodated in a private dining room and pampered without exception. AnnaMaria & Olivier have a knack of getting everything consistently right; you are made to feel really at home in this lovely restaurant, ....and the food just gets better every time we go!
Amelies – ChorleyWe have had dinner very recently at Amelies with different friends on two occasions. Each meal was a delight and the service of a high standard. Amelies is one of the best kept secrets in the Wigan area but that wont be for long as the word is out. We have already booked a business lunch for January. Highly recommended.
Amelies – ChorleyInvited by two friends for a mid week meal, we were a little apprehensive as the restaurant doesn't look terribly appealing from the outside. The reception area, bar and dining area are super, newly furnished, modern , very comfortable and inviting but scratch below the surface and there is a lot of work needs doing, toilets etc. However, this is a fabulous restaurant in the making as the welcome was reassuring and the food was exceptional. Presentable, delicious, a super fusion of tastes in each dish, excellent selection of wines and fantastic service. See you there .
Truffles – ChorleyI must have been in a time warp because this was the worst meal we have ever had. My husband's Angus Burger was tiny and burnt with only chips and two tiny pots of coleslaw and tomato relish as a side, I was given chips and had to remind them I had ordered New potatoes and the lamb was the fattiest lamb ever with every mouthful swallowed in a gulp to avoid the taste of fat. The only credit was they did actually refund the lamb meal. The decor is tired and we certainly will not be returning.
Original Farmers Arms – ChorleyI can only comment about the take-away side of the business.... but what I can say, is that it was FANTASTIC - beautiful, well cooked food, well seasoned, lovely and hot............ not just your usual indian takeaway rubbish of "same old sauce, with a bit of this and that added to it".................... Great food, highly recommended
The Elephant – Chorleythe best around, great pizza
Alghero – ChorleyI have enjoyed J-Seas finest Fish and Chips on each of their events and eagerly await the opening of their new shop in Chorley, The choice and quality cannot be beaten I love their new approach to our national dish and recommend their Lemon and Parsley batter option for your fish, YUMMY! J-Seas Finest Fish and Chips – ChorleyThis restaurant is FABULOUS!!! The ingredients are locally sourced and are prepared by an exceptional chef (especially the pies!!!) and the menu caters for all tastes. They also have an extensive Specials board which has plenty mouthwatering dishes to tempt you. My family and I have eaten here on several occasions now and it seems to get better every time. Highly recommended and a must to visit if you are in the area.
The Travellers Rest – ChorleyWent here last night (tues) and we were the first people in the pub but were made to feel very welcome by the lady on the bar. The pub was warm and welcoming. It says on the walls 'we do not serve fast food - we serve good food as quick as we can'. This could not be more true. Our starters (garlic bread and garlic mushrooms) arrived 45 minutes later, they weren't bad but we would not order them again. The mains followed 45 minutes after this, and were not worth the wait. The fishcakes were ok, but the cheese pie was overcooked and had a thick skin on like it had been stored for weeks - i did not eat one bite. On leaving i told the lady who served us (who i think is the land-lady/chefs assistant/waitress and bar person) i was not happy to wait nearly 2 hours for a meal that was not fresh and on a quiet night in the pub - but she did not seem to care. Very, very dissapointed.
The Black Horse – ChorleySince the refurbishment we have eaten here about 1/2 a dozen times and enjoyed every meal. The new outside terrace is lovely - very mediterranean. The new menu is excellent and very accommodating for every taste - we especially enjoy the local Bowens steak pudding. All the food is beautifully presented and reasonably priced - restaurant quality food at reasonable pub prices! The staff are very friendly and helpful and overall we would recommend The 'new' Travellers Rest to everyone!
The Travellers Rest – Chorleythe food here is fantastic !! its the fresh produce and the expert chef's they have that make it one of the best food houses, A bar full of cold beers and cask, massive choice of wines and the Sunday Carvery is the tops 2 courses £9.95 & 3 courses £10.95 and not a frozen item in sight. Mid week special, all pasta dishes only £4.95 and ice cold Buds £2.00 (mid week) all British meat and all fresh of the butcher. Sat & Sun Special soup & sandwich £4.95 cant beat it !! warm fires, good company and hot drinks its the place to be !!!
The Lock & Quay – Chorleyi took my wife for a meal on her birthday and was very impressed with the whole package, we had a beautiful 2 course meal from the a'lcart menu. Would recommend this restaurant so much so we've a pub and have put up an advert on our notice board and will definitely be going back
Thyme and Plaice – ChorleyMy partner and I visited The Travellers Rest last night and it was a fab experience. The pub is much smaller on the inside than it looks which adds to the ambiance as when you walk through the doors the atmosphere is lovely and warm and very inviting - we thought it was a bit like sitting in someones front room - very relaxing. The meal was superb. I had one of their specials (Duck) which was delicious, my partner chose the Chilli but BEWARE it is exactly what is says on the menu - HOT!! The presentation of the food was wonderful - not quite what you would expect from a local pub which was a nice surprise. My only criticism has to be that the cutlery/crockery was not spotlessly clean which was a shame as apart from that the whole experience was brilliant and the staff were great. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND but would suggest you book a table first!!
The Travellers Rest – ChorleyI have been several time to Dantes and has been it and miss but lately is completely off the food is very poor (signs of the credit crunch corner cutting) and very expensive for what you get.
The Halfway House – Chorleyfood and service was bad and the staff don't have any direction??????? prices to expensive, wine list like 1980 nothing special
The Halfway House – Chorleydined on sun 23rd Aug, Food was fab, we would of had dessert and coffee but having been sat for 30 minutes no staff came to ask if we required anything else, we asked a passing waitress for coffee which never came, so we paid and left. Think we must have been unlucky with the staff, but would return.
