Tiandi – BudeGreat chicken Jalfrezi!
Rajpoot – St IvesI stayed here once. It was not good! Enough said.
Hobblers – St IvesNice place and good food. I thought it was a little pricey for what it was, but enjoyed the visit all the same.
Spinacios Vegetarian Cafe and Restaurant – St IvesYou are probably wondering why anyone would comment on a Pizza Express, after all, you know you are going to get before you even walk through the door. BUT The views in this place are something else! This has to be the best spot in the town.
Pizza Express – FalmouthI was really disappointed after taking up a recommendation to visit this place. The staff were uninterested, the chips were literally bathed in oil - about half an inch of it, I kid you not! - and the fish was nothing special. My recommendation - make the effort and drive up to Padstow to Rick Stien's place - it's worth it!
Becks Fish and Chips – St IvesGreat restaurant - lovely staff - gorgeous wine..........and the rooms above are pretty near perfect too. This is a really well kept secret!
Ocean Grill – St IvesHad lunch here today and it was absolutely superb. The location is idyllic as the bar/restaurant looks over Trevaunance Cove. The food was delicious and the service excellent.
Schooners Bistro – St AgnesWe were seated fairly quickly - orders and food also arrived promptly. However, the Thai style chicken was clearly a Chinese take on a Thai curry with a fusion that sorely missed its mark. The eggy chicken was in an egg-based sauce - the only Thai element being the coriander, thus leaving the dish with a hollow body. It would be recommended to rely less on egg, to boil the chicken in stock, and to focus on more on quality ingredients. Xen appears to be the only Asian based restaurant with the pretense of affordability. However when compared to the quality of establishments in London, it is lacking by being both more expensive (even in Zone 2 - outside of central London), and by offering a fusion that is so ethnically disconnected, you may as well have gone to the chippy. It falls far short of the formulaic fast food franchises such as Wagamama's. To finish, we didn't pay service charge - but of course that might be expected if you get ignored and have to ask for the bill only as you're leaving.
Xen Noodle Bar – TruroThe Corner Deli pizzas are the real McCoy! Really delicious and it's an experience in itself to watch them being prepared and then cooked in the wood fired oven. They sell lovely stuff in the deli too. A little gem of place - not to be missed. Note: limited seating if you want to eat in, so it may be best to ring first if that's what you want to do.
The Corner Deli – HelstonWe went for a meal at the Nansloe Manor, Saturday 29th Nov 08. It has only been open for a couple of months after being closed for a number of years. It really has been renovated to an extremely high standard. The whole experience was absolutely superb! The dining room was a lovely, large, modern airy room with vast windows overlooking the grounds. We had 4/5 courses, as they provided a small mushroom soup bas a pre-starter, and we also chose to share a cheese board after our desserts. The waiting staff were excellent - attentive without being obtrusive. All of the courses were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We had cauliflower soup and pork belly; duck and ragout followed by bread & butter pudding and chocolate fondant and finally the cheese board. When my husband booked, he mentioned that it was a special occasion, and they presented us with 2 complimentary glasses of pink champagne toward the end of the meal, which was a lovely touch. It is not cheap - you're not likely to get change from £100, but it is worth every penny. I would definitely recommend it. When we went it was quite quiet, but the more people that hear that it's open and how good it is, the busier it will become, I'm sure. We will definitely be going back - and soon!
Nansloe Manor – HelstonNicely decorated, gorgeous food and lovely staff. Best place I've been to in a long time.
Mango Tango – FalmouthAmazing !!
Firehouse Bar and Grill – St IvesWe eat here as often as we can, top notch for Sunday lunch and great choices during the week. The menus change frequently and I am always struggling to choose what to eat, great home made chips and the desserts are over the top delicious.
Navy Inn – PenzanceMy first visit to Cornwall, and likewise to the delightful Harbour Restaurant, friendly welcome, nicely unpretentious, comfortable with a charming atmosphere. delicious scallops, and a first class pan fried Sea Bream, so good on my return home I tried to recreate the recipe, good but not as good. Good wines, good service and very reasonable prices. One of our party, when we lunched the following day at a very famous restaurant in Padstow, declared the meal at The Harbour was better!!!!!
The Slipway – Port IsaacThere are actualy TWO Indian restaurants in Wadebridge. The Bash Bagan is easily the best for cuisine and for its extremely friendly service. The Dal Sambar is simply to die for and the same quality is somehow replicated week after week.
Bash Baagan – WadebridgeWe were visiting the area and found the Greenhouse near to where we were staying. Sadly we only went to the Restaurant on the last night we were there, otherwise we would have been there every night! The food, service and prices really are fantastic! We were made to feel very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. We will be back next year and spend more time enjoying the hospitality. Many thanks to Neil and Leonie for looking after us see you next year.
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardThis tiny restaurant is only open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and given its size, is often booked up. It is worth persisting however. Our party agreed that the experience was something else: the preparation, ingredients and presentation of the food was inspired, and the meal was the best I've had in Devon or Cornwall.
