Amazing !!
Firehouse Bar and Grill – St IvesWe eat here as often as we can, top notch for Sunday lunch and great choices during the week. The menus change frequently and I am always struggling to choose what to eat, great home made chips and the desserts are over the top delicious.
Navy Inn – PenzanceMy first visit to Cornwall, and likewise to the delightful Harbour Restaurant, friendly welcome, nicely unpretentious, comfortable with a charming atmosphere. delicious scallops, and a first class pan fried Sea Bream, so good on my return home I tried to recreate the recipe, good but not as good. Good wines, good service and very reasonable prices. One of our party, when we lunched the following day at a very famous restaurant in Padstow, declared the meal at The Harbour was better!!!!!
The Slipway – Port IsaacThere are actualy TWO Indian restaurants in Wadebridge. The Bash Bagan is easily the best for cuisine and for its extremely friendly service. The Dal Sambar is simply to die for and the same quality is somehow replicated week after week.
Bash Baagan – WadebridgeWe were visiting the area and found the Greenhouse near to where we were staying. Sadly we only went to the Restaurant on the last night we were there, otherwise we would have been there every night! The food, service and prices really are fantastic! We were made to feel very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. We will be back next year and spend more time enjoying the hospitality. Many thanks to Neil and Leonie for looking after us see you next year.
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardThis tiny restaurant is only open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and given its size, is often booked up. It is worth persisting however. Our party agreed that the experience was something else: the preparation, ingredients and presentation of the food was inspired, and the meal was the best I've had in Devon or Cornwall.
Langmans Restaurant – CallingtonMy first of hopefully many visits to the Harbour Restaurant was a delightful experience. The ambience is warm and welcoming with a very friendly atmosphere, all the dinners seem connected in the experience and yet there is still privacy. The meal was excellent with delicious flavoursome fish, beautifully presented and with a wine list to compliment the food. Altogether a must visit restaurant.
The Slipway – Port IsaacBest pizza in town, friendly staff and really pleasant atmosphere- you haven't lived until you've eaten in da vinci!
Da Vinci – FalmouthWe stumbled across this gem of a pub one cold wet night, its a proper old fashion inn with great conversation,we decided on eating after seeing the full varied menu, i settled on a home made chicken Madras and the wife had the salmon, all i can say is first class food ,great real ales and the friendliest landlord ever.
Crown Inn, The – HelstonWent last Sunday to try their lunch and we had a really nice time, everything was good, the welcome, service, atmosphere and the food. Slow roasted pork belly, leeks with pernod and fennel was excellent, as were the desserts, especially the pistachio, almond and cardamon tart. We felt it was great value.
St Andrews Street Bistro – St IvesThe worst restaurant experience my wife and I have ever had. Having been a chef myself, I was appalled at the service and owner/chef of this establishment. We ordered a seafood pie and a risotto to share, both tasted ok. After a few bites of the pie, I was biting into an unchewable piece that I found was a scale. Each and every bite thereafter contained scales. I looked at the salmon and found it covered in scales. This was unacceptable. Descaling a fish is a basic culinary rule (for a dish like this), that was not followed. The worst was yet to come. I asked to speak to the manager; the chef/owner came out. I politely told him about my displeasure and asked to have the pie removed from bill (we had only had a few bites), he refused and became very angry, rude, and unprofessional. I felt like I was on an episode of "Hell's Kitchen. Do yourself a favor and avoid this restaurant.
Navy Inn – PenzanceThis restaurant looks OK from the outside but is hugely overpriced and the food is appalling. It has a huge menu with about 100 different choices on it (this should have set alarm bells ringing!) which can't possibly be freshly prepared. Most of it must be microwaved. We went for the 'freshly grilled fish' option (at about £20 per head). I should have noted that the menu was careful not to state 'fresh fish'. When it arrived it was overcooked, had been allowed to go cold and was quite rubbery in texture. The fish was served with chips which were OK but we had to buy vegetables separately as a side order (for £4.00). We were presented with a few bits of old (slightly brown) looking cauliflower, inedible and limp brocolli with carrots which were completely tasteless (I think these came from a tin). The staff at least had the good grace to take these off the bill when we complained. They also charge £1.50 for a childs blackcurrant squash and £5 for a bottle of water. On the menu, it is made clear that none of the items contain GM products. However, I think the management of this restaurant should be more worried about the fact that they are serving virtually inedible food that would be overpriced at half the amount we paid. This is a restaurant pretending to be something it's not. One to avoid.....
Clipper Restaurant The – PadstowHaving not been to this part of cornwall before i was eager to sample some of the beautiful fresh fish and seafood on offer. I was so impressed by this family run bistro in the heart of this quaint seaside town. There is a lovely warm finish to the decor of the traditional oak beamed restaurant area and it has bags of character, which only add to the dining experience. For starter i ate mussels which was recommended by friends who visit regularly. They were bursting with flavour. My main course of sea bass was cooked to perfection and nothing like some of the bland fish dishes i have tried elsewhere on my travels. My only regret about my visit to The Harbour Restaurant was that i only had time to eat there once but rest assured i will be back.
