Like another correspondent below, we dined at the Greenhouse three times whilst we were staying on the Lizard last week. My wife and I have eaten in some fantastic restaurants over the years with a fair collection of Michelin stars and other awards, but we were both of the opinion that The Greenhouse really is up there as a culinary experience and a real find. It’s a very small place and from everywhere in the restaurant you can see the Chef, Leonie, working in the kitchen. From here she produces starters such as scallops with black pudding, pigeon breast with a blackberry salad, or chargrilled mackerel with rhubarb. This is followed by mains such as plaice with a vermouth and samphire sauce, braised venison with red wine and rosemary sauce or even the simplicity of battered haddock and chips! It is all perfectly executed and delivered by Neil, in front of house. The menu changes daily and there seems to be about 6 - 8 starters and a similar number of mains. Puddings include home made ices and sorbets as well as such choices as treacle tart (lovely!) or amaretto crème brulee. There is a lovely selection of wines, as well as several beer and cider choices from local breweries. It really was a lovely experience and highly recommended - well worth the trip to Cornwall on it’s own!
