Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardAte at the Greenhouse at the end of our holiday in the Lizard. Everything about the restaurant was very good - they were great with my children, both under 10, and the quality of the cooking, ingredients and service were equivalent to many Michelin starred establishments I've recently eaten in. The menu is really well constructed with a great balance across the courses of fish and meat and - it was so reasonably priced. Frankly, its superb.
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardStaying in the culinary desert that is Perranporth we took the back road on a rainy July night to this fabulous spot. Very popular but able to cope the staff were courteous and friendly. Would the food live up to the standards? Excellent. Well presented reasonably priced and an excellent wine list. Would definitely recommend.
Smugglers Den Inn – NewquayHaving decided to stop off at Mawgan Porth for something light to eat on our way home to Cheshire, we (2 adults and 2 children)found the whole village buzzing. It was Friday evening, and the annual Duck Race was scheduled for later on. We had initially thought that we would get something to eat at the Merrimoor Inn but it was full and there was a queue for tables. We spotted the Fire Bistro just opposite and went in. Unfortunately, we were told that unless we had booked, there were no tables available. We went outside and looked around for inspiration!. There were no other eateris in Mawgan Porth and were faced with looking for somewhere else completely or worse, getting something at a service station on the M5!. Just then, one of the waitresses (American) came out and offered us a small table situated in front of the TV. This suited my husband as the olympics were showing. We ordered our food and were then offered a 'proper' table in the dining room. Fantastic - right next to the window overlooking the beach. (I should point out that there were lots of tables outside and whilst it was a beautiful evening, it was too chilly to sit out). I ordered the Thai fishcakes and my husband had fish and chips. Both meals were just incredible. I had recently ordered something similar at a restaurant in Watergate Bay, which I had enjoyed, but were not a patch on those at Fire. The children had a pizza and spaghetti which were great but the pizza was gorgeous. So much for a light meal! The children went on and shared a chocolate dessert and husband had vanilla icecream. The service was great and the American waitress could not do enough for us. Toilet facilities also excellent! We will be going back to Cornwall next year, and possibly again later on this year and will definitely return to Fire!
Fire Bar Bistro and Grill – NewquayWe made our second visit to The Greenhouse in August and eagerly look forward to the next. Sunday lunch really does offer outstanding value - the fresh ingredients are second to none and the imaginative combinations of flavours and perfect preparation make choosing from the menu rather difficult! The style is wholesome and rustic but with an understated contemporary edge. The importance of Neil's front of house service should not be underestimated - his calm friendliness results in a completely relaxed atmosphere where nothing is too much trouble. Looking forward to an evening visit next time!
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardThe food in this restaurant is badly cooked, and over priced, and the service was terrible. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
Clipper Restaurant The – PadstowLike another correspondent below, we dined at the Greenhouse three times whilst we were staying on the Lizard last week. My wife and I have eaten in some fantastic restaurants over the years with a fair collection of Michelin stars and other awards, but we were both of the opinion that The Greenhouse really is up there as a culinary experience and a real find. It’s a very small place and from everywhere in the restaurant you can see the Chef, Leonie, working in the kitchen. From here she produces starters such as scallops with black pudding, pigeon breast with a blackberry salad, or chargrilled mackerel with rhubarb. This is followed by mains such as plaice with a vermouth and samphire sauce, braised venison with red wine and rosemary sauce or even the simplicity of battered haddock and chips! It is all perfectly executed and delivered by Neil, in front of house. The menu changes daily and there seems to be about 6 - 8 starters and a similar number of mains. Puddings include home made ices and sorbets as well as such choices as treacle tart (lovely!) or amaretto crème brulee. There is a lovely selection of wines, as well as several beer and cider choices from local breweries. It really was a lovely experience and highly recommended - well worth the trip to Cornwall on it’s own!
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The Lizardi travel over the country eat in alot of different restaurants ,for me this offers quality everytime great service ,attention to detail is great , portions are very fair spot on service and quality drive to eat here everytime !
The Eastern Eye – The LizardThis is the third year running that our family have have eaten at The Greenhouse, we love the food, it is beautifully cooked and very well presented. Between us all we have worked our way through the entire menu and loved it all. We are always made to feel very welcome and it is the highlight of our day, on our 14 day holiday we ate at The Greenhouse every day that it was open! Neil and Leoni are very accommodating with our different tastes and food allergies. We highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back as soon as we can.
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardIt's clear that the Odds team has worked very hard to get this place 'just right', and they've done it. We've been twice now, and it's definitely worth the drive. Yes, it's a little bit more expensive than your usual haunt, but your money is spent on you, not on the owners holiday home!!... the quality of ingredients are 5* as are the kitchen and front-of-house staff. Placing Odds in the same category as Stein and Outlaw and the prices start to look very reasonable indeed. Having virtually all wines available by the glass is a fantastic idea, particularly as someone has to be driving. Oh, and if you feel the side dishes to accompany your meal are too small...just ask and you'll get plenty more. A true Cornish restaurant using the best of local seasonal ingredients...what more can you ask for?
Odds The Restaurant – NewquayVisited 2nd August 2008. Really fresh ingredients and complementary flavours make the food here both delicious and interesting. The menu is small and unpretentious and cooked and served by the calmest, most efficient and friendly team in a kitchen open for all to see. We very much hope we'll be able to visit again.
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardWe discovered this place by accident and were absolutely blown away. The food is fairly priced and lovingly cooked, and without doubt was one of the best meals I have ever had. It's just a shame we only stumbled across it on the last night of our stay. Will be going back as soon as possible though!
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardVisited for the second year in succession and had another fabulous meal. Everything beautifully cooked and presented with fresh ingredients. Service was excellent as before and portion sizes are generous so could only manage ice cream for dessert this time, will definitely eat less during the day to save space for a "proper" pudding next time.
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardFantastic locally sourced food. We first experienced Sunday lunch and have returned many times including for a evening meal. The food is faultless and the environment casual and friendly. Sunday lunch is better value and better prepared than any pub lunch and like a previous reviewer said well worth the trip
Greenhouse Organic Restaurant – The LizardThe worst restaurant I have ever been to! The food was atrocious and very expensive for what it was. A complete rip off. The staff are friendly but if you are looking for edible food, stay away!
Crossbow Restaurant – Tintagelwell after ordering 6 main courses which all proved to be horrible i strongly advise people to take there custom elsewhere. the fish dishes sampled were over cooked. lemon sole's distinctive flavour was lost through over cooking. meat dishes like lamb shank should be avoided as the fish flavour comes into the dishes as they are prepared in the same areas. vegetables were overcooked or undercooked. seasoning had to be asked for as the food is very bland. the service is very slow taking an hour and a half for a main course. a beetle was on the floor suggesting poor hygiene standards.
The Globe – FoweyThe food is quite simply sublime. My fellow diners, adults and youngsters, were literally moaning with pleasure. Book soon! you will not regret it.
The Cove – FalmouthI can honestly say eating at the Cornish Deli was the best meal I have ever had- the food was amazing, the atmosphere was so relaxed, and Mark and his team made the evening such a pleasure. Also, Cornish Blue Cheese and Cornish wine are impossible to find anywhere else!
