Maltsters Arms – WadebridgeMyself and my partner went to The Cat last Saturday night for food and drink and were not disappointed!! The place is cool in the extreme in terms of design and decor and complimented by wonderful food and amazing crafted cocktails plus some wacky draught beers. We will happily return and recommend too
One Eyed Cat Bar and Restaurant – TruroExcellent chilli beef starter, beautiful fillet steak. On second visit had pasta main course, beautiful but not enough! Cooking and service very high standard but a bit pricey but so were all the other restaurants in the area.
Seven Bays Bistro – PadstowWith the departure of the locally-owned Cafe Citron from Lemon Street comes the march of the mainstream and the arrival of Pizza Express wearing its Sunday Best. Wedging an ASK restaurant into Truro must have been a challenge for it's owners....to come into one of the UK's smallest cities, around the corner from it's well established, well known and well loved older brother. An older brother that lives in the beautiful old Coinage Hall on the main town 'square', not just tasty unfussy food, but a great dining room to eat it in. Compare this with what ASK has moved into; 2 long narrow ground floor shops with the window at one end. It's done a great job! The design is well thought out and makes good use of what space is available. The staff too deserve praise, being friendly and who wait the seemingly large number of tables with speed and professionalism. And there lies the rub....so many tables, one kitchen, a national chain with targets to meet. The food was safe, average and sterile. I'm sure the chef would love to do more, but it won't happen here. With current TV fashion suggesting we enjoy local, fresh, unfussy dishes then this is not the place. If you fancy pizza/pasta then head round the corner for the same stuff one quid cheaper at Pizza Express. For great tasting restaurant food, just look around. Truro has plenty - with Gaudis, Mannings and Bustophers all within a 5 minute walk.
ASK – TruroWalked past one night and it was buzzing, though the window you can see the kitchen and the girls working like Trojans and it was packed out inside and with people queuing to get a table. Mental note to come back another time as we had already eaten at "the mex" another must try in St Ives, that evening. We came back on Monday night, walk through the door and the smells and sounds hit your senses, loved the informality, no table bookings taken just hang out till they can seat you about 10mins that’s all, the communal benches, the recycles cardboard seats, no frilly place settings here, a simple jug of cutlery on the table to help yourself all adds to the experience. Starters were sardines. Fresh from the sea done on the griddle. That’s it nothing added or taken away just a squeeze of lime or lemon if you wish, they were awesome. Chillies burger with blue cheese all homemade, the sauce was out of this world with chillies lemon grass and lime that gave it a tangy bite with out being overbearing. But then the best kept secret.” the pudding" described as amazing chocolate fudge brownie it was that good that i cannot possibly even try to describe it, suffice to say we had a second helping. A unique dining experience and well worth the effort to find it !
Blas Burgerworks – St IvesWe have eaten at this restaurant a few times and every time the food has been outstanding. Probably one of the best fish restaurants in Cornwall. Excellent service and very often the chef/proprietor comes out and has a word with the diners at each table to make sure that they are satisfied - excellent all round.
Waves – PadstowI've eaten here twice so far and have already enquired about a Christmas booking. There could be a little more between the small and large roasts (an extra potato or two, perhaps. It looks as though you only get one extra slice of meat for your extra £1). There's a fantastic selection of desserts but be warned, they're very large portions! I have seen people taking left-overs home with them though. All in all one of the better places to eat in Cornwall at present.
Trevaskis Farm Restaurant – HayleThe staff at this restaurant saved my life. I was filming in Cornwall a couple of weeks back, and we couldn't find anywhere to eat - no one told us Cornwall shuts down around 8 o'clock. The only place in Penzance still open was the Sukothai restaurant. As we parked up, I realised I'd lost my phone - a complete nightmare on a film shoot. Luckily 3 of the staff realised what was going on, and came out with torches. They stayed with me half an hour until one of them tracked it down. Inside, the food and the service was unbeatable - the staff were really lovely, and we talked about Thailand and Cornwall, and they invited us out dancing the next week. I wish we could have taken them up on the offer, but we had to leave the next day. I will definitely be eating there next time I visit Cornwall.
Sukothai Restaurant – Penzancefantastic food and excellent service. A jewel on the camel!
The Pickwick Inn and Restaurant – WadebridgeBrilliant!
Smugglers Cott – Looeafter selling our spar shop in padstow and moving back to Gloucestershire in January, our last treat was a meal at NO6.the food was superb, and i would recommend a taste of NO6 an assortment of their desserts, never experienced anything like it. the service and attention given to us was wonderful, it was lovely to relax and not be rushed. if we are ever in padstow again we will paying another visit. Thanks molly, chris &paul and all the staff for the fantastic evening.
Paul Ainsworth at No 6 – PadstowFantastic, authentic thai food in excellent surroundings, 10/10
Sukothai Restaurant – PenzanceFantastic food & surroundings, plus excellent service. The desserts particularly are to die for! Well worth a visit.
Austells – St AustellLoved the atmosphere & food. One place to go to whilst in newquay
Mexican Cantina – NewquayI took my wife to Bustophers for our first wedding anniversary after being recommended it by a close a friend who visited Truro a month ago. Not knowing the area I was a little unsure what to expect but what a fantastic find. This restaurant is one of the best I have had the opportunity to visit. The food was out of this world and the atmosphere was second class. The attention to detail is what makes this place so special and it is certainly a restaurant we will visit again. This is the one of the best restaurants in Cornwall. Every one deserves to enjoy this place and we can not recommend it enough!
Bustophers Bar and Bistro – TruroWe have lived in the Truro area for 25 years, so what a wonderful change to Bustopher's after that dark dreary interior. The bar area is superb and very inviting. The service afforded to us was excellent, particularly from Tom (the bar Manager). We had a wonderful bass served up on a base of dauphinoise potatoes and vegetables with superb sauce to match, probably the finest in the area. However, the Sunday roast did not meet up to our expectations and, sadly, was overcooked and of poor quality. Prices are commensurate with Truro's eateries although watch the cost of certain wines by the glass; it can work out to be expensive. Probably better to order a bottle if drinking at the bar. Overall though, a fine establishment with a terrific and exciting evening ambience. The waitresses are all very attractive, but some closer interaction with customers would go down well rather than just pointing them to a table and looking pretty.
Bustophers Bar and Bistro – TruroThe place was great, the burgers were amazing and the service was some of the best i've ever had. Personal, cosy, individual, refreshing and most of all - incredibly tasty. If you are going to St. Ives, go to Blas.
Blas Burgerworks – St Ives8 of us went for a hen night last Sat night and had a ball. We ate upstairs and watched all the fun of the bar below not to mention having a bit of a giggle ourselves-particularly with some of the good looking boys who work there. Food was great, cocktails brill and service attentive but not too formal and in your face. Love the building and the name!! Bizarre but certainly memorable
