Top quality food in a beautiful setting
Derwent Lodge Hotel – CockermouthSpencer the chef certainly knows his craft and we found his anecdotes very amusing. We had a really good night at a very reasonable price
The Sunny Hill – WhitehavenEnded up by default and what a treat - the best lasagne I have had and my daughter and wife had clean plates so must have been good - been three years ago poor now what a treasure - well worth a call - suggest get in early as packed when we went.
Casa Bella – KeswickA very homely welcome
The Elleray – WindermereVisited twice in week and well worth it - non smoking and warm welcome. Attention needs paying to what is ordered. Most excellent new menu. Make certain you choose table and BOOK as busy. A must if going to Keswick - New Year was superb.
Sweeneys Bar Restaurant – KeswickWhat a wonderful way to round off the festive season with an excellent meal in a friendly, local restaurant where personal service is a priority and food is beautifully cooked and presented and tastes perfect. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed and unhurried - a perfect evening.
Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-Furnessa fantastic restaurant with a great atmosphere and friendly service
The Moon Highgate – KendalHad two wonderful meals over the Christmas period with different groups of people and everybody was very impressed (28 people in total) the lamb melted in your mouth and the cheeseboard the best I`ve ever seen. Looking forward to another reason to celebrate!!
Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-FurnessWhere do I start... We dropped into this pub / restaurant en route to the Lake District initially for a quick pint. This turned into a full Sunday lunch which was excellent in every way. The food was fresh, hot and plentiful and was served by pleasant polite and friendly staff. When presented with the bill I was amazed that such quality was so reasonable. All in all an excellent well run establishment - we will be back!
The Hound Inn – St BeesA gem in Appleby, a place that would fit into the most fashionable streets in Europe (honest). A great little place well worth a visit, good wine for the price and the staff are a breath of fresh air. Try the early evening tapas & wine a steal at £6.00. One night there was a great live jazz band.
Bojangles – ApplebyI am a local in Appleby and this place has been open a year now its totally modern for our town and lovely for a girly meal or romantic night with the one you love also nice for a lunchtime treat daily specials and various theme nights lovely wine and friendly staff and very reasonably priced!!
Bojangles – ApplebyGreat Pub Food
Black Cock Inn – Broughton-in-FurnessNot the usual chintz of the lake district! Excellent clean and modern accommodation - slate floors, freestanding roll top baths and flat screen TV's to name but a few features. Very cosy/intimate surroundings for couples. Dining is excellent (if a little pricey), but the awards speak for themselves. Would be nice in the summer but even better in winter. Afternoon tea (included in price) in front of real log fires is a must.
Punch Bowl Inn – KendalIt was great
Zest Restaurant – WhitehavenNot to be missed, very individual and excellent service
Ice Cream Garden – PenrithWow! we found this place by accident, it is an English cafe/bistro, we tried the day menu on it you will find a selection of food i recommend the steak and ale pie ( If You can get one ) i have never seen such big chunks of steak! The Big Breakfast is the best in town. The sticky toffee pudding i can still taste now it was fantastic. They are open on an evening too so we tried it then as well and we were not disappointed the menu was a la carte and worth every penny, the wine list was quite reasonable too. EVERYONE MUST TRY THIS PLACE ! CARLISLE HAS A NEW BISTRO GO TRY IT!
The Dining Room – CarlisleA group of 24 of us went to Amigos for our Christmas get together. From start to finish Tracey and her staff dealt with us in a really friendly and professional manner. Amigos has to be one of the areas most comfortable and relaxed eating houses. The ambience is just fantastic from the cosy but very comfortable cellar bar to the lovely rustic style dining room - everything signals to you that Tracey has done her homework well and you the customer are in for a fun night. The food is nicely presented and tastes equally as good. The portion sizes are on the generous side of things so steer clear of big lunches before you go. I'm sure that many people who have gone out as a big party have all suffered from slow service and mixed up orders. I can in all honesty say this was NOT the case at Amigos, the poor chef and his team must have been busting their guts out for us, everything we ordered came at the same time, the food was cooked to perfections and nothing was too much trouble for the waitresses. The menu is a delight to peruse and caters for all tastes, even those that don't want to be adventurous and try Mexican food. Quite a few people commented that they particularly liked the way they could specify how spicy they would like their food to be at the time of ordering. It's little touches like this that make all the difference. I suppose the acid test with any eatery is the answer to the question "would you go back?" In the case of Amigos the answer would be a resounding YES. There's a lot of restaurants in this area that could do with taking a leaf from Amigos book. When it comes down to putting the customer first and making sure that their customers are having a great time Amigos wins hands down. Anyway to summarise Excellent Food Excellent Setting Excellent Friendly Staff Oh nearly forgot..... AWESOME margaritas!!
Amigos The Mexican – UlverstonThe Broadoaks Hotel and Restaurant has the personal touch of the owners, who put their heart and soul into the place and are undoubtedly very passionate about it. The rooms, each one a masterpiece, the breakfasts, yummy and the attention to detail is immaculate.
