Clarke’s Hotel – Barrow-in-FurnessI always have a hell of a job finding this place but I must be in the minority as it is always busy whenever I visit. It's not hard to see why it's so popular -- spectacular views, plenty of outside seating, a good wine list, cask ales, efficient staff, and an extensive and varied menu ranging from upmarket sandwiches to elaborate mains. Getting here is half the fun, I suppose, and when we went on Saturday we were serended by a troupe of morris dancers.
Masons Arms – WindermereWe went for a Saturday evening, and had ordered Lobster Thermadore in advance (24 hours notice needed for Lobster). The ambience was lovely (we'd previously been for a lunch which was wonderful, and it was great to see how the place had been dressed for the evening - completely transformed). The menu had a fabulous selection of tempting dishes for all three courses, and an amuse bouche was also served - lovely surprise. We couldn't fault anything, from outstanding food to spot-on service. We chose crab risotto, followed by the lobster followed by the best creme brulee in the world, and I should know, I've had a few! Francine is in complete control at front of house, and husband Graeme is the very talented chef. This restaurant is an absolute jewel. Hope it continues to prosper. Although I've marked our bill cost as average, we actually expected to pay more, as the standard here is very high. Graeme adds lots of little extras to his dishes and presents them in a very unpretentious way, which really make a difference. We'll definitely be returning.
Francine’s Restaurant and Coffee House – WindermereWhat a fantastic idea for a restaurant-a railway carriage and a very plush one at that. food was excellent ambience superb and very friendly and efficient staff. the prices also very reasonable. Highly recommended
The Hound Inn – St BeesWe ate here New Year 2006, delightful, cosy feel. Had pre-drinks downstairs next to a roaring fire, then went upstairs to eat. Excellent service and delicious food (lots of choice). Thought it would be pricier than it was. Highly recommend a visit.
Spinnery Restaurant – WindermereI visited this restaurant with my wife and would recommend to anyone. The service was first class and very friendly. The food was wonderful and would definitely eat there again
Deja-Vu In Kendal – KendalGood Food, fast service and wonderful home-made cakes - a must if you are visiting Penrith
Country Coffee Shop – PenrithWe were recommended this restaurant and it proved well worth a visit or four! The staff were very professional but at the same time relaxed and friendly, the food was outstanding, especially the value of the kids (I had kids meals with my children for three of the nights!) highly recommend, even Molton Brown to use in toilets and buy!

Morrels Restaurant – KeswickI don't eat that many pies, however the one I had here was without doubt the best I've ever had! The "boho"interior and decor make a welcome change from the tradional or corporate chain look. Its a great place for walking as well!
Moorcock Inn The – SedberghWhat a find. This is absolute class. Lived in area for years did nt even know it was there. Went on a recommendation from a month or 2 ago . Will definitely be going back. Food fantastic incredible wine list and I have to mention the cheese board never seen anything like it and nearly all English
Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-FurnessBeing the only Indian Restaurant in Ulverston should not put you off, Good honest food, helpful staff at an affordable price we eat their regularly
British Raj The – UlverstonWhat a wonderful end to our holiday. Stumbled across the Angel Inn by accident. Sat outside on the terrace and had a lovely meal with my wife and two young boys. All the food was freshly cooked and well presented on the plates. Best looking and most tasty fish and chips I've had in a long time and my boys couldn't get enough of the chicken goujons. Inside the inn was even more impressive with cosy lounging areas and a modern dining area and bar. Service was very good and staff friendly. Would even consider staying there. Recommend it to anyone wanting something more than pub grub.
