Fingle Bridge Inn – ExeterMy two friends and I had a meal on 02/02/08 which was a Saturday night. We were lucky enough to be seated straight away, and it was immediately obvious that we would be in for a great night. The smells were amazing and we couldn't order our food quick enough!! We opted for the sampler meals (along with a couple of other dishes) which meant we all got to share a little of everything. All of the dishes were wonderful, as was the tolberone fondue we have for dessert (with fresh fruit and marshmallows to dip in!). Price was really reasonable - under £30.00 for 3 of us (including a bottle of wine). I have to say it is the best meal I have had in a long time (and I eat out twice a week on average). In fact it was so good, it inspired me to write an online review (which I've never done before!!). I would DEFINITELY recommend this place and hope to return soon (even though I live in Birmingham).
The Terrace Tapas & Wine Bar – IlfracombeThis is fine dining at its very best, and in a beautiful location overlooking the River Dart. Chef Malcolm Wybrow cooks all food to order using fresh ingredients and the best Devon meat, fish and seafood. For starters, try the pan fried scallops with smoked bacon, garlic butter and a hint of cream, or the salad of smoked duck and oranges, or one of the many choices of starters and main courses from the specials board - which carries a wide choice of the best of the daily fish catches. For the main course, my daughter had roasted rump of Dartmoor Lamb with a red onion and wine gravy, which was as sweet and tender as you would expect lamb to be; my son enjoyed a traditional Surf n Turf, served with massive king prawns and I had melt in the mouth medallions of Exmoor Venison served with a cranberry and redcurrent compote, perfectly poached pear and parship crisps, which were far superior to anything you can buy. The kids were too full to eat anything but ice cream for dessert, but I couldn't resist the amaretto cheesecake on an amaretto biscuit base, Malcom's own creation. All courses were served by Malcom's wife Karen, a cook in her own right, who was extremely attentive and delighted the kids by calling them "sir" and "madam". We all agreed this was the best meal we had ever tasted. Sails is just to the edge of the centre of town, near Bayard's Cove. Dartmouth is known for its fine food, but Sails has to be among the very top restaurants in the town.
Sails Restaurant – Dartmouththe best pub there is in the world, everyone is so friendly and very welcoming. the best drinks i have had in a life time.
Poltimore Arms – ExeterWe had a wonderful lunch here before Christmas. Excellent home cooked food, good size portions and personal service. Good value. Good parking. Plan to go back there.
Talaton Inn, The – ExeterIn this day of theme restaurants, e.g. Italian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, or fast food outlets such as KFC, Burger King, etc., the only place to get traditional British cuisine, as far as I can make out, is the British Pub. Not every pub will serve food, and some seem to range from sandwiches only, through pies only to several course meals. The attraction of pub meals, is not just the food, but the ambience of the place. There is the informality you do not find in a standard restaurant, and the comely and relaxed atmosphere you do not find in a fast food restaurant. The northmore Arms is the epitome of all that is good in local English pubs. Friendly staff, cracking grub and an outside loo to boot! This is a must for every weary traveller!
Northmore Arms – Okehamptonfriendly relaxed family pub / restaurant, food surprisingly good at reasonable price, only gripe apple sauce wasn't tart. Will definitely visit again.
Bishop John De Grandisson Inn – TeignmouthEveryhting good you have ever heard about the Traditional British Pub!!!! Proper Beer, proper food, proper prices. I visit everytime I am anywhere near the area.
Northmore Arms – OkehamptonSmall friendly pub with large open fire and warm atmosphere. Food is excellent for quality, quantity, presentation and cost. Food menu is varied and there should be something for everyone. Real ales are the order of the day straight from the barrel. Cider also on tap. Try it - you won't be disappointed!
Northmore Arms – OkehamptonVery Good Home cooked food, excellent value for money and the staff and owners always make you feel welcome. The Sunday Carvery is definitely worth visiting for, however worth getting there early as it's very busy. Delightful Bed and Breakfast, which is very comfortable and clean and they serve a HUGE breakfast which is not for the faint hearted but it is worth trying to eat it all.
Cavalier Inn – TorringtonVery disappointed in this restaurant. Our small party spent over £250 pounds and yet they still made a charge of £8 for for bulk standard bread . I have written to the restaurant with my complaint and the did not even have the decency to acknowledge my correspondence. I really feel that this place is out to exploit its customers on the back of some daytime television shows
Barbican Kitchen – PlymouthBearslake inn is a beautiful old building which is full of history the food is first class and the staff friendly and very good at their job the food is served quickly and the presentation is excellent we have only just started using the Bearslake Inn again after many years and the new owners are a credit to the area we have recommended this Inn to lots of people and will be one of their regular customers for many years to come regards Pat Arthurs Okehampton February 2008
Bearslake Inn – OkehamptonI visit this restaurant as often as possible, the food as always been top rate. The staff and owners are lovely; they also serve a nice pint of real ale.
East Of The Water – BidefordHad a lovely meal here, the staff were really good with us, The wine was excellent as was our food. Will definitely return it had a great atmosphere.
Strada – ExeterLove it here! The chicken is always really moist and the chips are the best of all fast food joints. They should offer a free range or organic chicken selection though.
Nando’s – Plymouthcame here to try the new menu, you can choose as many starter and mains as you can eat for £12.50. But you have to be able to finish everything or they charge a fine. Great food, great bar area and wine list. The restaurant however is too open plan and lacks atmosphere, it could do with a few partitions dotted around to create some warmth. Will go back though. I think this is probably the best Chinese in Exeter, all the city centre ones are out of date and shabby.
Oriental City Restaurant and Lounge Bar – ExeterWe had lunch here on a beautiful sunny day in February, with views from the dining room across the grounds and beyond, watching the horses frolicking. The food was stunning, pickled Red Mullet, Guinea Fowl with truffled sauce and puddings that were a step too far. Luckily we could retire to the lounge for a rest before setting off. Truly a unique hotel and restaurant where you can forget about your daily grind and relax with the help of the brilliant staff. I read that they are up for a Michelin Star this year and the food more than proved that for us.
The Pig at Combe House – HonitonWe visit this restaurant frequently and never disappointed with the menu, food or service. The owners are charming hosts. It is very busy at weekends so advance booking is wise.
