Maritimo Wine & Tapas – PlymouthThis was our second visit to Kenton, having discovered it for the first time last summer and we were really looking forward to our visit having thoroughly loved everything on that previous visit. We were lucky enough to be allocated one of the huts that overlooks the vines, this made our visit even more fun, having our own little space, out of the wind and having such a lovely view. The staff were very attentive throughout, explaining the menu to us and talking us through the wines available. We decided to order the Motley Cru Deli Feast Sharing Platter as we'd had the same thing on our last visit and we're blown away by it. Unfortunately however, on this visit the standards seem to have slipped ever so slightly when it came to the overall content and presentation of the platter. We had to send a couple of pieces of bread back as they'd gone stale from having been out too long, but fair play they corrected that very quickly. Last year the platter had nuts, fruit, chutney, olives and even guacamole amongst the platter, whereas on this visit we had to ask for chutney, oil and butter separately and sadly there was no sign of olives, grapes or nuts. Last time around the quiche was served warm whereas on this occasion all the baked items were served cold. It's difficult to be sure but I'd also say overall the quantity of cheese and biscuits was marginally smaller. Last year it was all served in a lovely rustic basket whereas this time it was loaded onto the back of what I assume to be an IKEA pizza serving paddle (it was labelled IKEA on the handle). The food still tasted lovely and we will certainly go back again. The wine (Grape Escape) we had with the meal was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon, but we couldn't help but feel that it wasn't quite on a par with that first time.
Kenton Park Estate – ExeterCannot fault this place at all! We were greeted with a friendly smile and sat at a table while our window table was prepared. This took 2 minutes. We were asked if we had any allergies and ordered a jug of sangria, which was delicious. The food that we ordered was all delivered promptly and piping hot! Not only that, it was all extremely tasty! The service was second to none! I would definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back!
Maritimo Wine & Tapas – PlymouthSimply fantastic. Ben was a wealth of knowledge and a brilliant host for our wine safari. A great story teller and catered for everyone.
Kenton Park Estate – ExeterWe ate on a Monday evening, and had a disappointing meal. Firstly, the menu is nowhere near as extensive as shown on the website - no ‘catch of the day’ specials board, for example. The food didn’t look anywhere near as attractive as that on the website either. My partner and I both opted for the pan fried hake with a caper and butter sauce. Well, if the chef is Michelin trained (mentioned on the website) I can only assume it was his day off and someone who doesn’t know how to cook fish was standing in for him. The skin on the fish was flabby and greasy rather than crispy, and the fish was unpleasantly greasy too. Also, the advertised caper and butter sauce was missing. We pointed this out to one of the servers, who came back a few minutes later with two pots containing some partially melted butter with some capers plonked in it - that is not a sauce! We decided to have a dessert and shared a blackcurrant frangipane tart. That was ok, but nothing special, and did nothing to raise our spirits after an extremely disappointing main course. To be fair to the waitress, she did knock the dessert off of the bill due to the issues with the main, but I’d much rather have had a well cooked meal and paid for everything. In conclusion, I would say that the food was way overpriced for the mediocre quality of fare provided, and I can’t imagine we’d visit again.
The Harbour Inn – SeatonGreat food, great service and, if the weather is good, sit outside for a great view across the sound. Will certainly be back.
