Halfway House Inn The – TavistockA truly great British pub, excellent food for the whole family, even the fussiest of friends, awesome choice of whiskies too, well worth a visit, haven't stayed in the bedrooms since they've been renovated but they look good too
Nobody Inn – ExeterHole in the Wall - loved the food, great for Seafood , good A La Carte food & price
Hole In The Wall – Torquaygreat food , lovely fresh produce , a pleasant change to find home cooked great food not bought in run of the mill expensive produce , left me wanting more !!
Linny Inn The – Newton AbbotBrilliant, good food, pleasant atmosphere, very good value for money.
Oriental Touch – TorquaySerious bad attitude from the landlady (won’t serve tap water). Money spent on doing the place up, but now looks like “The Land of Leather”. This place has totally lost its local charm. High prices for average food. Have heard the lamb burgers are good but at £4.50 they would want to be.
The Lamb Inn – ExeterThis is a gem of a restaurant hidden halfway down Fore street and in many ways I am pleased that it is hidden away. I would hate to think I had to miss out on a table as my family all look forward to a night out at the friendly family owned Terrace Tapas Bar on our visits to Ilfracombe. Tapas heaven, authentic dishes served with panache and cooked with care, the regular dishes complimented by alternating specials, the oak smoked chicken in paprika is excellent as are the pinchos with 21 day aged rump, melt in the mouth, foaming chilled draught san miguel , some excellent Spanish wines and the service is exceptional. Well done Mark and Kelly and your great team, you have the special recipe for success, long may you prosper.
The Terrace Tapas & Wine Bar – IlfracombeIf you like an al a carte menu then the Blacksmiths arms is for you. The menu has turned its back on traditional pub food and is becoming more exotic. The prices have also increased recently and the portion sizes seem to have decreased. The service is below average and there can be a wait on food, but if you are happy to order at the bar for food and drinks rather then be waited on and don't mind a wait then visit the black smiths.
Blacksmiths Arms The – TavistockWe booked for a party of 8 in to The Vanilla Pod Restaurant for our annual family get together. On arrival we were told that there had been a mistake and we would have to eat in the bar area. This we had to accept as our taxi's had left. The situation was made worse as our taxi driver had mentioned that it was not unknown for the Inn to overbook and then 'bump' someone in to the bar area. That said the food was very nice and we had a good evening despite the problem. I would recommend the food, just be aware of the tendency for them to overbook.
The Cridford Inn – Newton AbbotMy advice would be to not eat in this restaurant! We went on out holiday end of July 08, As it has a bakery downstairs we assumed that the food would be home cooked. we ordered the cornish pasty & chips whilst my sister ordered jacket potato. for starters her potato was uncooked so she could not eat it and our pasties were absolutely disgusting. mine was supposed to be cheese potato & onion but it was really just potato with a few spices. my mums was supposed to be traditional cornish but it was just a lot o mush which was also pink so it was obviously uncooked. when the Bill came and it was over £30 i was not impressed. I asked the waitress if they ask if their customers are satisfied with their meal, she looked at me with her nose in the air and stated we normally do, why what's wrong with yours, i advised her of the above, a second waitress came over and said we don't make the pasties we just cook them (this is obviously what they serve in their bakery too) waitresses were not at all bothered that we were unsatisfied with our meals as they will always receive new customers whereas local pubs have to keep up their reputations. i was absolutely disgusted with the treatment i received and would not return even if i was paid!
Sloping Deck Restaurant – DartmouthThis place is gorgeous, the decor is beautiful. When we first arrived we thought it was a little pricey, £10.95 for a chicken tikka massala and almost didn't go in but then we realised that that price included rice or naan which is a pretty average price for an indian. It was very quiet as we went on a Wednesday evening (we were on holiday) the staff service was ok but the food was gorgeous, i was eating my curry even though i wasn't hungry and knew id regret it later (which i did!) had a dessert (can't remember the name of it but it was like a sticky toffee pie) Typical indian restaurant desserts, all pre packed and straight out of the freezer! i am yet to visit an indian estaurant that actually makes their own desserts. It was far too sickly after my curry but this was my own fault, they could do with adding a dark choc minty pudding on there like a vianetta or trufito as my local indian serves! because you need somethng minty after such a big meal! overall would give it a 9/10
Bombay Express – TorquayThis little gem is probably the best Indian restaurant I have been in... anywhere. Unpretentious, clean and with helpful polite staff, you immediately are made welcome - and not the slightly overdone welcome you get in some places. Food's great, always freshly cooked and very tasty. The menu is varied and has the regulars with some rarer dishes not found in many restaurants. Prices are modest but not cheap and this is reflected in the quality of the meals. You will not be disappointed.
Ganges Restaurant The – Tavistockbe warned if you have children, this place is not for you. Despite making a booking and stating we had children, the owners were very condescending to us, boarding on rude. The food was good, though overpriced and service very poor/slow. Would be good to come for a beer and maybe a meal with just a partner.
Elephants Nest Inn – TavistockWe spent a very enjoyable evening at Bistro One last night. Everything, from the food to the wine, was delicious, perfectly complemented each other and cooked to perfection. The portion sizes were generous too. The waitress was very helpful and Mr Barrett, who was head chef last night, seemed happy to talk to us and kindly shared his expertise in wine. A lovely night in a relaxed atmosphere, we will definitely be back - possibly even for the wine tasting course!
Bistro One – PlymouthGreat meal. Had a fantastic meal as did my colleagues. I had the Klefticon which just melted in my mouth, never had meat so tender. My colleagues had the Fish Mixed Grill and Monkfish. They were very impressed and said you could tell that the fish was very fresh. The portions are a really good size and are very good value for money. Next time I am in Plymouth I will be coming back. Reading the review below......I understood that the Restaurant specialises in seafood not Greek.
Village Restaurant The – PlymouthWe have eaten several times here, both lunch times and evenings . The food is fantastic and the service is faultless. I just have to ask and they always have a good choice on the menu for me being wheat/gluten free. Not the usual plain offerings I get at most other places. We love eating here.
Rydon Inn and Restaurant – HolsworthyDo a fantastic feast Sunday to Thursday...food excellent. Wouldn't eat in any other Chinese restaurant.
Bamboo The – ExeterI was seriously looking for the hidden cameras during my experience in this establishment because the host was so rude I thought I had stumbled into a reality tv or prank show. On arrival at 6pm the place had about six customers in total, and myself, partner, two five year olds, one 12 yr old and the grandparents sat outside to enjoy the river. Our drinks were massively overpriced, £7.20 for two glasses of wine, and the service frosty. The owner or host came outside and began to put down all the large parasols even though we were sheltering from the rain. We moved to inside which seats several hundred but was empty, and sat at a table by the window. The host then came over and made a fuss that one of our children was sat behind us drawing a picture. He was unceremoniously removed as the table was needed!?!? Our glasses were then hurriedly collected before we had finished, and we were starting to get the hint, but subtlety vanished altogether when a junior member of staff came and told us that our table would need to be vacated if a diner wanted it. Still, all around us was empty and we had spent a lot of money on drinks. Our children were sat quietly with us, drawing pictures. Before the hour was up we were literally hounded out of this practically empty pub, and my parents who are in their sixties had been looking at the menu and planning to stay for dinner, but changed their minds and went on elsewhere. There is a sign outside saying 'Welcome'.... what a joke! For all the fancy decor the staff and owner are simply rude. If tables are reserved for diners only then that should be made clear, but paying customers should not be treated like rubbish, no matter how pretty the view. My advice, go down the river to Shaldon where there are plenty of super friendly alternatives who will be pleased to see you.
