Thariks – PaigntonCannot believe how bad this place was. Arrived at 8:50 having booked for 9. No table free til 9:20. Looking around while we were there, it would seem that we were not the only ones who had been there some time without service. There is a reason for this - the abominable service overall. After waiting another 15 mins to order, and then 35 mins for the starter to arrive , it was cold!Unbelievable. Decided to cut our losses and left, having been in the place for an hour and 20 mins without eating anything!! DON'T GO THERE!!!
The Spice – BidefordJust returned from the Barum Gate in barnstaple and still fuming. I treated my daughter to a birthday meal and wish i hadn't bothered. A simple order: two starters and four mains. One starter didn't turn up, 40 mins later and the incomplete main courses showed up and my wife's favourite well done steak was stone cold. Very unhappy. Not one to cause a fuss i reluctantly paid the bill hoping someone would ask "how was your'e meal". No such luck so I will have to make it my mission to not recommend this place to anyone. Shame really, used to dine here all the time before the re-furb.
Matt, Lizzie and their very professional team recently catered for my daughter's wedding reception in Powderham Castle. They were quietly efficient and helpful and and provided us with wonderful food. We chose them following our experience of their delicious Sunday lunches and memorable suppers. They are 'THE BEST'. Kenton residents are so lucky to have this exceptional establishment in their village. You will need to book a table if you wish to eat there at a weekend.
Rodean – ExeterWe had steak etc here when we stayed overnight in the hotel last Sept and thought it was overpriced for the quality and portions. The pud was dry which suggested it wasn't too fresh. Also, the restaurant had loads of spiders in every available nook & cranny so to be avoided in my book. We checked out of the hotel room after 1 night due to loads of spiders in the room too but that's another story. I certainly won't be going there again.
Thelbridge Cross Inn – TivertonMe and my boyfriend have been here 3 times now each time it has been great the food is great, the best Indian restaurant we have been to yet the food is lovely and fresh going again soon, highly recommended. Emma and Mark.
Eastern Eye – Plymouthwe went here last year for our wedding anniversary meal. It is the best meal we have ever tasted, and we eat out 4-5 times a month. 6 of us went and 5 of us had a fillet steak, ranging from rare to really well done. Once the food arrived, all the steaks looked the same from the outside, it was only once you cut through it did you notice if it was rare or well done, and the taste was amazing. The only problem is, it is 400 miles from home. highly recommended with 10/10 for service, food quality, and using local produce.
Bell Inn The – Bidefordwhat a great restaurant. Food is fantastic and varied. Not just curry. Staff are friendly and helpful. The owner who is there most nights is a wonderful host. I recommend you try this place at least once...a week as I do!! Dont bother going to any other indian restaurant in Torquay you will be disappointed. The naan bread are to die for - I suggest you try the garlic and coriander....amazing.
Miahs Indian Restaurant – TorquayWe enjoyed a superb meal on new year's eve with live music and a wonderful atmosphere. The pub was packed and the owners meryl and paulo were wonderful hosts. 10 of us enjoyed a fabulous evening and we have booked for next year. A truly great experience!!!
The Flintlock Inn – HonitonThe winking Prawn is one of the best restaurants in Salcombe and i cant wait to go back there in march to visit my friends who own it Amy......x
Winking Prawn The – SalcombeThis Christmas I organised a more relaxed staff Christmas "party" and had no hesitation in booking the Waterside for 20 of us. As usual, I knew I could depend upon Matt and his brigade in the kitchen and Delphine with her great team to provide us with a superb meal and excellent friendly service, even though our party of 20 was only one of a number of large bookings for that evening. Our M.D. and his wife were so delighted with the relaxed and enjoyable evening that I have re-booked the Waterside for our Summer Supper - again for all the staff and their partners. Cannot recommend this delightful venue highly enough, especially if you want a hassle-free party in a pleasant location with delicious food, excellent reasonably-priced wines, and friendly efficient staff.
Waterside Bistro – TotnesExcellent value for money with friendly service. The food is first class and they have a range of dishes for all tastes.
Honeymoon Chinese and Thai Restaurant – BarnstapleVery nice upmarket cuisine. Lovely decor and service
The Cadeleigh Arms – TivertonCould not get a table at Tanners, so settled for Chloes (which I enjoyed the last time I was there). Service is impeccable. Starters were up to expectations. The Coq Au Vin and Sea Bream was at it usual good standards, but the cod was disappointing on this occasion.
Chloe’s Restaurant – Plymouth5 stars for level of service. 4 stars for authenticity in its dishes. The 6 of us had a whopping good meal, and the staff was ever so accommodating. We first asked for a large bowl of Tom Yam soup instead of the usual single portion, they obliged. We asked if they could help us to ring for the next train time back to Exeter, and they obliged again! I have tried many Thai restaurants in Devon and Cornwall, but Thai House serves the best pad Thai. Parking was a real nightmare though! Not their fault, but imagine the punters they are losing!!
Thai House The – PlymouthI think this could be the best restaurant in Plymouth! The service was flawless and had a really great atmosphere even on a Tuesday night which was surprising. The sirloin was cooked to perfection and was melt in the mouth. I could not fault the place.
Artillery Tower – PlymouthAlthough the food was nice the place lacked atmosphere and the service was quite slow
Barbican Kitchen – PlymouthWhen Damien Hirst announced plans to open a swanky bar and restaurant-cum-art gallery in the down-at-heel Victorian resort of Ilfracombe, 10 minutes from his Devon home, the locals scoffed. Who would make the trek to the seaside town that time forgot? Well, loads of people, as it happened. Three years after it opened, the bar and its attached restaurant, 11 The Quay, boasts a clientele that includes Damon Albarn, David Bailey and Keith Allen - and Hirst is slowly having the same one-man regeneration effect on Ilfracombe that Rick Stein brought to Padstow. Standing on the quayside, it's easy to see the appeal. With its gleaming red-brick facade sandwiched between olde-worlde seaside shops, The White Hart is like a glistening pearl in a muddy Devon oyster. And when the sun dances on the clear blue waters of the harbour and reflects back through the bar's huge windows, the White Hart comes into its own. Enormous French doors open on to a south-facing terrace with fantastic views of bobbing fishing boats. Back through the doors, the small but perfectly formed menu of cocktails includes favourites such as the sea breezes and fruit-based margaritas. The White Hart also offers 20 wines by the glass as well as local beers and ciders. For a quick nibble before you repair upstairs to the Atlantic room for a slap- up dinner, crack open a bottle of Ruinart Brut Rose ([pound]80) and savour oysters caught by local fishermen from nearby Lundy Island.
