we have heard so much about this place also the fancy decor persuaded us to have a meal. but i was utterly disgusted with the artificial colourings in the dishes also the amount of grease. yuk! that is not proper food.

Mahabharat – KingsbridgeWe went to the newly refurbished Barum Gate to be nicely surprised the fish are chips were wonderful, fish was succulent and for the first time anywhere in a very long time did i send compliments to the chef. It was also extremely reasonably priced
I have eaten in many restaurants in Devon but never have I found one with such a magnificent atmosphere coupled with mouth-watering food. The setting is perfect and I was made to feel like one of the family. The restaurant is family run and it shows, small touches, very clean, lots of fun. Cant wait to go again!
Winking Prawn The – SalcombeWe unfortunately chose Hooks for a birthday last Saturday. We booked and were given a reservation for 9pm. We arrived and were told our table was given to people who hadn't booked and would we mind waiting for them to reset a table. We did so, and the took another twenty minutes to seat us. We didn't get any food until 10.35, the steaks were well cooked, served with frozen chips, and an undressed salad. Service from the staff was attentive, but management thought the long wait was acceptable.
Hooks – TorquayI'll start off by saying that the service is great, even the takeaway service, the food is spectacular the Sally which I normally have is very tasty, my boyfriend has the jalfrezi or the madras & that is very good too. We've been up to cambridge a few times & its nothing compared to the mahabharat. Once we ordered a takeaway to be delivered & they were 10 minutes late so we called up & the reason being that they were late because they couldn't find our place but because they were late they gave us a free big bottle of beer. so the mahabharat is the best indian ive ever been to. :D
Mahabharat – KingsbridgeWHAT A GREAT PLACE TO EAT,YOU CAN SEE THE CHEF BRINGING THE FISH UP FROM THE MARKET EACH MORNING,GREAT FOOD, AND SERVICE.THERE FISH IS SUPERB AND THE FISHFEAST FANTASTIC.
Saxtys – BrixhamAbsolutely shocking. The meals were very poor and clearly cooked in a hurry despite taking the best part of 45 minutes to arrive. The staff argued with me over what I ordered and I received an incorrect bill at the end of it.
Ganges – PlymouthA great restaurant, have been back several times & each has been as good as before. Sat in the Japanese room once which is nice but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over 5.6".
Yukisan – PlymouthOn a previous visit to Barum Gate with a colleague I was very disappointed with the service, Food, and Ambience.I put my complaint in writing, and it was taken seriously. It has since been completely transformed, and along with my partner, daughter, her husband and 3 grandchildren, we recently went for a meal, and everything was just perfect, and I would be pleased to recommend it to all my family members when they visit, colleagues and friends. Well Done to all the staff and everyone who made this transformation.
We stayed at Penhaven for a special family birthday weekend. The restaurant staff and food was good but that was about it! The customer service was awful - everything was hard work for the management staff and the rooms were substandard. If you have any problems during your stay, don't expect any help from the management!! The whole experience was a shambles and this put a bit of a dampener on our special weekend. Sian, London
Penhaven Country Hotel – Bidefordwe struggled to find a veggie restaurant in Plymouth ,an Indian wasn't our first choice but this was great the food was excellent, the elderflower cordial was just carbonated water, service was very slow (we had to skip dessert as the 2 hour parking was up) we will go again
Veggie Perrins – PlymouthLovely! Cosy atmosphere, tasty food and easy disabled access! Best pub we visited in Torquay during our stay.
Bull and Bush The – TorquayThe gentleman behind the bar is making major efforts with this pub and his service was excellent. However, we were made to feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome by a female member of staff who we presumed was landlady/chef. I was sitting in the only comfortable seat close to the fire and she stood behind me glaring at me for a number of minutes giving me the distinct impression that as an 'outsider' I should not be in the pub's comfy seat and my husband was 'told off' for touching her brass. If a pub is going to create a welcoming lounge-like atmosphere, it needs to accept that pokers in front of the fire may be touched from time to time. This unfortunately destroyed the experience for us, we had been considering returning but we would not do this as we feel that, if we stayed at this pub, we would be treated as 'outsiders' which is a shame. If the lady can develop a different approach then this pub has massive potential. The barman, possibly the landlord, had an excellent welcoming approach but this was destroyed by the lady. We were going to stay longer but, having been made to feel very uncomfortable we left.
Cyder Presse – BidefordNice location, Newly refurbished, Staff very friendly, Would recommend to anyone wanting quick filling food before night out, Attached to premier inn so make a night of it, close to local entertainment.
Lockyers Quay – PlymouthI was recommended this place, so i took the family, BRILLIANT, what can i say the food was brilliant and so was the service, my youngsters were given colouring to do whilst waiting for their food, which they ate all of it . I can recommend the ribs and the fajitas, the smokey BBQ sauce was lovely, i thought the waitress looked like she loved working there, if i was younger! TRY IT YOURSELF
Route 38 – PlymouthThank heavens finally a little bit of civilisation has arrived in north devon. Being a city girl for most of my life, it was fantastic to find a place that has that cool unpretentious not trying to hard feel that most places in the sticks have. Went down for a long weekend and ate there pretty much every day (sometimes more than once a day). The staff were friendly and knew what they were talking about, and the food was amazing. It was simple and honest with out all those extra twiddles that everyone seems to want to add, and tasted just as you wanted it to. The wine list was fab, with an amazing house white that blew us both away. If you're in the area it's a must visit. Big thumbs up, as a girl though could do with another loo!
At One Dining Room and Deli – BrauntonWhat an EXCELLENT place, we had a brilliant time the staff were so friendly and the food was so authentic of the good ole U S A . VERY RECOMENDED Gary and family
