Wonderful food and service when we had been driving all day and needed something to eat quite late.
The Cellar Restaurant – TivertonThe best Indian food in Tiverton. The service is excellent and always served with a smile. Eating in the restaurant in an enjoyable experience and you are made to feel very welcome. The only problem is the drinks tab can get quite expensive. Out of 10 I would give the food 7, price 6, overall experience 7. Well worth a visit.
Gate Of India – TivertonDuring our recent break near Tiverton we struggled to find a good restaurant until we stumbled across the Cellar on the Internet. We thought we'd give it a try and were not disappointed. The food was first class - freshly cooked from local ingredients and the service super friendly. The whole evening was superb - a lovely end to our holiday. we will be back next time we are in the area.
The Cellar Restaurant – TivertonWe went to the Cellar restaurant for New Year's Eve (2010). We had a set meal of 8 courses for a spectacular £35 pp. The food was world class. Champagne on arrival, delicious homemade wheaten bread (I'm now officially hooked), they had run out of the crab cakes but with so much choice it was easy to opt for an alternative. I'm so glad we did...the homemade caramelised onion and goats cheese tartlet was just scrumptious. One of our group had the smoked salmon and another had the homemade red pepper/garlic/tomato soup...all of which were as good as each other. Then the melon sorbet palette cleanser was absolutely delicious. The flavour of the cantaloupe melon really came through and was just a complete joy to taste. For main course 2 of us had the venison and 2 had the fillet steak...oh my goodness my taste buds were ecstatic. The venison was so tender and the sauce it was served with was absolutely delicious...all these dishes truly were world class and would not be out of place in the best dining houses of the finest hotels around the world. Chef Brian and his lovely wife Polly are sitting on a little gold mine here. They have that unique combination of fantastic homemade food of professional standard, warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere, making every customer feel like a personal friend and the all important value for money with affordable prices. What more could you want? This really is THE BEST RESTAURANT IN TIVERTON BY FAR...and when you visit, you simply MUST try Brian's homemade sticky toffee pudding...it has to be tasted to believed and I defy anyone to say that they have tasted better anywhere else! Well done Polly and Brian and thank you for making us feel so welcome. We are proud to say we are now going to be firm regulars
The Cellar Restaurant – TivertonAt long last Tiverton has an English/European restaurant in the town. We've dined here a few times now and we've always had a warm welcome and we've never been disappointed whatever we choose from the varied menu. We would recommend The Cellar to everyone who appreciates fine dining in a friendly, intimate venue.
The Cellar Restaurant – TivertonWe were a group of five. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Our food was cooked to a high standard, excellent quality and very tasty. We would highly recommend the Cellar Restaurant.
The Cellar Restaurant – TivertonVisited this restaurant and was extremely disappointed. Upon arrival we stood for a few minutes whilst the man at the bar seemed rather preoccupied with something else. We were then shown to our seats and it was some ten minutes before he came to attend to us, a smile, warm welcome and offer of drinks on arrival would have been nice. He seemed completely disinterested in our custom. With our wine we were served some processed olives, squares of hard butter and stale bread, not a good start. Because of this, we opted to have some 'nibbles' rather than a full meal. One of the dishes costing around £5 consisted of 4 small prawns, i suspect formerly frozen. They had very little flavour and 2 of them together wouldn't fill a teaspoon. We also had battered squid which tasted of batter and little else. Finally some mushrooms on toast - sorry don't have the correct name for these dishes, the mushrooms were very tasty but the bread was a soggy lump beneath. If I were to give constructive criticism to the owners I would suggest the following: 1. Make people feel welcome! 2. Offer drinks on arrival. 3. Ask if your customers are happy with their food. 4. Get a better chef or concentrate on what you're good at, I believe your pizzas are good. On a less important note, make your decor more welcoming, less contemporary and stark and more Italian, play Italian style music! And light some candles in the evening. I think that would really help your business become a success. Many of these things cost nothing, especially the warm welcome! Very disappointing.
Il Gatto Nero – TivertonSuperb and friendly atmosphere. Food of a high standard. They also have one or more meeting rooms. Toilets are clean. My wife is picky about the quality of her food and this is always a safe bet.
The Cadeleigh Arms – TivertonVisited this restaurant for the first time last night. The food was fantastic! My husband had pizza, I had pasta...both wonderful, generous servings and very fairly priced. Reserved but friendly staff. Lovely and warm on a cold winter night, with old stripped wood floors and deep red walls, very welcoming. They also do 'take out' again very fairly priced! We'll definitely be going back soon! We highly recommend!
Il Gatto Nero – TivertonWe had steak etc here when we stayed overnight in the hotel last Sept and thought it was overpriced for the quality and portions. The pud was dry which suggested it wasn't too fresh. Also, the restaurant had loads of spiders in every available nook & cranny so to be avoided in my book. We checked out of the hotel room after 1 night due to loads of spiders in the room too but that's another story. I certainly won't be going there again.
Thelbridge Cross Inn – TivertonVery nice upmarket cuisine. Lovely decor and service
The Cadeleigh Arms – TivertonWe have visited several times now, as we are moving into the area, We feel very lucky to have such a lovely friendly place to eat so near to our new home.
Mount Pleasant Inn – Tivertonloved it ...a real treat..would come again very soon
Cruwys Arms The – TivertonPleasant restaurant for a pub meal. Good menu choice for fish and vegetarian as well, as meat and poultry. Good table service. Not suitable for a special meal out but nice enough if you are passing by.
Thelbridge Cross Inn – TivertonWe were made to feel very welcome by the owners - nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent especially from the Specials Board and the meet was delicious and sourced locally. After visiting the Mitre by chance, we came back time and again whilst holidaying locally
Mitre Inn – TivertonThis bistro really does source local ingredients. Very light touch with pastry - especially cheescake. Seasonal produce. A generally high standard - and very popular. Only open Fri/Sat nights. Local wines
Toucan – TivertonTop rate foot plenty of taste and variety
