Very delicious Arabic food and very good service
Sultan Restaurant – DidsburyI have been going into the metropolitan in west didsbury for many years with a group of local friends. therefore i feel well placed to write an honest and frank review. For a long time now this place has been slipping in standards based largely on the fact that it is a busy place. because of this, the staff have become lethargic, disinterested and arrogant. The biggest problem however is the management who at best are inept incompetent and frankly laughable, led by big mel, who makes basil fawlty look good. When she is not picking on people with learning difficulties - or bullying staff on minimum wage, she can be guaranteed to be overseeing a dirty bar, slow service and TGI Fridays standard food. She does however manage to do it in a snooty manner which implies that she is slightly better than you - which clearly shes not otherwise she wouldn't work there You will not be able to get served quickly on a Friday and Saturday - you will not be able to move in there on a Sunday because of toddlers crawling on the floor - during the week, mothers with oversized prams will block the entire space - ordering their coffee and cake (making it last 2 hours) - which inevitably slows down service because the staff cant work the coffee machine The food is very average, and gets away with it because its not a bad building which papers over some of the very large cracks. I would recommend most of the other places on burton rd as being better. In conclusion the met is at the moment the place to go for people with little imagination on a friday or saturday. It will however die a death in much the same way as other crazily busy places have over the last few years. This is because the EIGHT managers are basically children who have no idea what they are doing and will sink the place. Average prices: Pint - £4.20 Wine - £18 per bottle Meal for 2 with drinks - £70 Bottle of Peroni - £4 Vodka and orange - £5
Metropolitan – DidsburyI have eaten in this restaurant several times now. The food i have had was great for the whole family! Definitely welcoming to children and the staff were lovely. I recommend it.
Pomegranate Restaurant – DidsburyMy partner and ate at Jem & I for the first time last week. The food was wonderful, perfectly cooked, seasoned and spiced. My partners main course of monk fish was "The best meal I've ever had'. My mushroom risotto was also very good. We shared a sticky toffee pudding dessert and again it was beautiful in taste, texture, and presentation. Importantly no teaspoon of sauce here but a generous portion. Service was excellent.
Jem and I Bar and Grill – DidsburyGood food
Hong Kong Red Lantern – DidsburyReally lovely pub with an impressive wine list, all staff seem very helpful and a great atmosphere to meet friends. It's a shame it isn't more central in Manchester as this is what were missing.
Metropolitan – DidsburyMy Husband and I have visited Green's on a number of occasions and this restaurant never lets us down. Once again a fabulous visit, the menu choice was brilliant I almost couldn't make a decision. In the end I went for the red pepper and goats cheese pate which was served with the most delicious rye bread, my husband opted for the black pudding scotch egg which was also delicious, for mains we choose the Moroccan chick pea parcel and sausages and mash both of which were outstanding. Service and atmosphere both also great and at around £20 per head including our drinks it doesn't get much better than that!
Greens – DidsburyJust eaten at Pomegranate tonight, highlight has to be unbelievably tender lamb kebab! Great atmosphere, lovely decor, friendly waitress... Cant wait to go again.
Pomegranate Restaurant – DidsburyMy husband and I have just walked out of this place, after waiting over 45 minutes having placed our order for two cold drinks and a couple of food orders which were off the menu and uncomplicated. The cafe was busy when we arrived and we took a table that had just been vacated. In the whole time we were there the table was not cleared of the previous occupants dirty plates which we eventually cleared ourselves. We also had to wipe the table ourselves. Upon the table next to us walking out and commenting that they had still not been served, i enquired with the woman behind the counter, when we could expect to receive our order. She said she didn't know. I told her to please find out or we would be leaving. She came and told us they hadn't even started. At that we left. This place describes itself as "laid back" i would comment that it's all very well having a laid back atmosphere, but this cannot be matched by a laid back attitude to service if a business is to survive. I doubt this lot will unless they pull their socks up massively!
Mary & Archie – DidsburyAlways enjoy going to Continental - the food is so tasty and the atmosphere is very nice. The service friendly and we always have a wonderful meal!
Continental – DidsburyI had a great lunch here on Friday. The steak sandwich with red onion jam was great at only £7.95. chips were homemade and like chippy chips with little crispy bits, not like the uniformed chips you get in similar establishments. The fire was roaring and the staff attentive. Will be back.
Metropolitan – DidsburyA true galloping gourmet delight was had by all the table the other night. We have been going to the Lime tree for some time now, in fact many years. We always enjoy ourselves, Matt is a welcoming host and his team are always courteous. Thank you for another great night.
Lime Tree – DidsburyVery disappointing. Food was luke warm and portions were tiny We paid £15 a head for mixed vegetarian and fish thali - for this we each got two prawns, one tiny piece of fish each and a few potatoes and beans which had clearly been sat around for sometime before they were brought out to us. They were generous with the rice though. The drinks that we ordered weren't brought out and still didn't come when we reminded the waitress. Waitress cleared the table after main course and didn't return for 20 mins to ask whether we would like any dessert. We had lost the will by this time so we left the restaurant hungry and thirsty.
Cachumba – DidsburyI recently went here with my boyfriend for a nice meal, we were put in a corner at the back which originally seemed quite and nice. After 10 minutes nobody had come to offer us a drink and when they finally did the waiter was rude and pushy. When it comes to curry I ALWAYS ask for a medium hot madras and at any other restaurant in Manchester this has always been no problem, the waiter proceeded to tell me "so you want a medium curry" after stating that wasn't what I wanted and that i'd look but could we just have the starters for now he proceeded to tell me how hot a Madras was and then read the whole menu out to me as if talking to an incompetent child. After 10 minutes he came back again asking had i decided on my mains yet to which i replied "the starters are fine for now" and he walked away shaking his head. The starters then took a further 20 minutes to arrive (and the restaurant wasn't busy) while another 2 waiters came over to see if we'd like mains. After the wait and rudeness of the first waiter I'd been completely put off for the simple fact that I will not be forced into eating when I am paying for a decent service. Eventually after having 2 starters (which to be fair were quite nice) and a pint and a half of carling the bill came £14.90 which i find ridiculous as the starters weren't extravagant ones. If you work in a restaurant at 60/ 70 it doesn't mean you can try to intimidate people to eat certain things or be plain rude. All in all a terrible experience of The "Great" Kathmandu.
Great Kathmandu – Didsburyi think this is the best Mediterranean food in the whole of Manchester. I like this type of food it's healthy and delicious. it's definitely worth trying.
Sultan Restaurant – DidsburyThis is a recommendation NOT to go here. 2 staff were quite rude to me. The Mango and yogurt sauce was not to a high standard. The tikka masala was bland with no depth of flavour and when I was asked if it was ok, my feedback was honest, to which the waiter pulled his face. The reason I'm writing this is because I've woken up with tummy ache this morning which is never a sign of good food! Please Don't read other recommendations on the web; it's certainly no Blue Tiffin (Oldham) or zouk ( mnc).
Khandoker – DidsburyYes very nice and recommended, price, service food v good.
Original Third Eye, The – DidsburyThis is seriously the best curry place in town I wont eat anywhere else. The staff are great and I am never disappointed.
