Jem and I Bar and Grill – DidsburyThe best chinese food I have ever eaten bar none - its prices are slightly higher than your typical chinese, but that reflects the portions and sheer quality of each dish. Add to that the luxurious decor and cosy lighting which is all to often missing from chinese restaurants, plus great service - I cannot recommend this place enough!
Laughing Buddha – DidsburyAbout the best food I've had out for ages in South Manchester, including far more expensive restaurants. It's a plain, smallish room, friendly and informal, and run by nice people. The menu isn't large (a good sign) but everything they do is really topnotch, full of taste, fresh and zingy. Seven of us ate mid-week this evening (£17.50 for three courses) and amazingly not one dish was a dud.
Bistro West 156 – DidsburyMy partner and I visited Bistro West 156 last night for the first time. Wow! It was a beautiful evening and we sat outside. The restaurant is small and quaint and the food was outstanding. Big portions and excellent value for money. You MUST try it
Bistro West 156 – DidsburyThe food is fantastic and there is a great value for money menu available too. It's relatively modern and always pretty full. It even has a car park which in Didsbury is pretty rare. However, the service is quite possibly the worst I have ever received. Drinks were slammed down, starter plates weren't cleared until the end of the meal, noone checked that the meal was ok or offered the chance to reorder drinks. The table was wiped down onto my lap and both of the waiters that 'served' us were unbelievably rude. I would never return here but would try the takeaway next door as the kitchen is shared.
Khandoker – Didsburythis is without doubt the best cafe in south manchester. the coffee is first class and the food is fresh and tasty, add to that the fact that the staff are welcoming and you have a great little hideaway in didsbury.....tell all your friends
Thyme Out Delicatessen – DidsburyThis isn't so much a recommendation, rather an honest opinion. Sajna are very hit and miss in my experience. The pizza's have been massively undercooked before and much of the menu is unavailable for order. Beef burgers have never been available each of the times i've attempted to order them! The staff are nice enough though, but once again sadly, the prices aren't anything to write home about. The (obvious) amount of money spent on the waiting area would have been better spent on the ordering of the unavailable ingredients.
Sajna Indian Kitchen – DidsburyWent last Sunday evening, really great atmosphere, friendly staff and fantastic food!
Pinchjos – DidsburyA hidden gem in Didsbury! I have eaten here on many occasions with/without children, as a couple, and in large groups and the food never fails to impress - even my very fussy father! Lunch potions are quite large and desserts are to die for ! Love being able to see into the kitchens. The wait staff are also very polite and efficient without being obtrusive overall an excellent, reasonably priced, quite dining experience - highly recommended!
No. 4 Dine and Wine – DidsburyReally cozy ambiance; delicious, fresh food; very good service. I can only recommend this restaurant and will be back again with guests.
Bistro West 156 – Didsburythe food here is divine its a real good price and it s a quick delivery well to the local area.the pizza s are superb and their open till late... enjoy xx
Continental – DidsburyThis is a vegetarian restaurant owned by a non vegetarian for non vegetarians. The menu is very boring and any self respecting vegetarian could cook up a meal twice as good for quarter of the price. It's saving grace is that the staff are absolutely lovely and the service is excellent.
Greens – DidsburyThe atmosphere and background music was relatively loud, which could be interpreted as "lively". The waiters were all very friendly and helped to create a positive atmosphere. While the food tasted very good, I thought it very much lacked in quantity, especially when considering the relatively high price. My main course came in a tiny portion of one small slice of nut loaf, and a small cup full of mashed potato - that was it!
Greens – DidsburyWe have been regular customers to the Lime Tree for the past 20 years. However we were very disappointed with the service we received during our meal on Sunday night. It was - The initial greeting at the door was cold and uninterested and we were shown to a table just behind a large party of 20 - even though there were tables free (however - these were for four) - Our side order of vegetables didn't arrive and my husband had to go in search of the staff since no one passed through the conservatory area of the restaurant for ages. The attitude of the staff was that we forgot to order it rather than they had forgotten to bring it.... - The way the food was delivered to our table was definitely "service with a snarl" - We had to go in search of staff again (they are all chatting in the bar area) in order to pay the bill. - We weren't the only table stuggling to get served. While we were ordering someone from another table came up to ask the waitress for some more wine. - The food was generally good. My lamb was fantastic but my husband's steak was only just about edible... It was such a shame because we have had so many pleasant evenings at the Lime Tree in the past. However, it seems during the credit crunch they are not interested in keeping their customers happy. We won't be going back again for a long time. Next time we go out for an £80 meal we will choose somewhere where they value their regular customers
Lime Tree – DidsburyEight members of Trafford Curry Club visited this restaurant at 8pm on Wednesday 27th January 2009. The place is quite small with not a great deal of covers but it was very busy and had a nice cosy welcoming atmosphere. The dated wallpaper also adds to the experience. For starters we had poppadums followed by Fish Tikka, Lamb Chops and Sheekh Kebabs. All delicious ( especially the Fish Tikka ). For mains we chose a variety of the Nepalese dishes including the Chilli Chicken ( very hot ), Bhotowan, Chandane dry fry and Chicken Khorsani ( also very hot ) and traditional Indian dishes of Tikka Massala and Kharai. With copious amounts of draught Cobra and Kingfisher, a jug of delicious Mango Lassi and coffees to round off the evening the bill came to £170. We were very impressed with the waiter service. All the orders were correct and on time even though the place was busy. In fact as we were leaving at 11.30pm diners were still coming in. All in all we would definitely eat here again and would not hesitate recommending it to others. Peter Crouch ( the footballer ) visits here and his photo is on the wall. He has good taste! Our advice would be to leave this little jem just as it is. If it ain't broken don't try to fix it.
Great Kathmandu – DidsburyWe may have chosen wrongly as we selected the £18 per head set menu and it was the worst food that my wife and I have ever tasted. That said people around us seemed to be happy with their's. If I went again, and I would not, I would sample the more expensive set menu to make sure that we were not missing out on some fantastic food. The starters were the sort of thing you might get in an Aldi discount Chinese starters pack, the mains were under-cooked chicken and pork in unappetising sauces. The rice was very good. The wine was surprisingly drinkable and reasonably priced, particularly once the chill had left the bottle (it was red). Menu states that tap water is not served on Crazy Wendy nights, is this legal? Crazy Wendy created a good atmosphere where everyone who had had a few drinks could listen to very poor singing and dance on chairs. Great if you like that kind of thing. Overall I would go if you are a fan of poor all you can eat food and daytime tv or 18-30 holidays.
Crazy Wendys – DidsburyIn the past I have been a fan of the one lounge, but was very disappointed after purchasing a £15 ticket on New Years eve to find inside the place was freezing cold so had to keep my coat on all night along with the rest of the people in there, and the cocktail menu had changed from last time and after ordering 2 cocktails which were not very nice at all and no offer of any exchange or recommendation of another cocktail, this place is now very "off " my list of cocktail bar's for future. Very disappointing.
One Lounge Bar – DidsburyVisited Loch Fyne Didsbury Xmas Eve 24 December for a birthday celebration and the meal was absolutely terrible. Restaurant was understaffed had to wait ages for drinks etc. Food was even worse. Ordered a £44 sea food platter "hot and cold", all of which was cold except for the under-cooked mussels. The shellfish was tasteless and of the same consistency as rubber. It seemed some of the shell fish was thawed quickly as the shells were limp and the flesh soggy. Prawns, langoustines and crayfish all had eggs on their underbelly and scallops where still frozen. For an establishment that 'specializes' in seafood I find this unacceptable. We did complain and received a free basic desert but after spending in excess of £140 on food and 1 bottle of wine this was simply not good enough and went home still starving as did not eat the egg laden shellfish. It seems this establishment is just another low quality chain restaurant.
The Old Cock – DidsburySet Menu: 2 courses, £15 (available 5pm-6.30pm Thursday, 12pm-6pm Friday, 12pm-5pm Saturday)
