Good Pub food at very good price. very nice staff.
The Dolphin Inn – ShaftesburyThe pub looks attractive enough as you approach, has a pleasant interior, and the beer selection is quite decent. There's a Which? award for hospitality on display, which leads you to expect something above average. We had a ham sandwich which was, ... well, we've concluded there must be a famine in the kitchen as the single slice of wafer-thin ham didn't even cover the whole round of the sandwich. We needed to be elsewhere, and weren't in the mood for conflict, so we settled for moving the ham onto one quarter of the bread, and abandoned the rest.
Kings Arms – ShaftesburyChutneys is a very modern classy looking Indian restaurant. The menu is very varied and does not rely on the standard Indian cuisine choices. It was very busy when I went (on a Saturday night) and there were people waiting for tables from quite early on in the evening - a good indication of the quality of food. The service was good even though the waiters appeared to be very busy. The dish I had (can't remember the name) was delicious.
Chutneys – ShaftesburyThe Gillingham Tandoori is a great traditional Indian restaurant which is well established in the town and is always busy. The food is very good, promptly served by very attentive staff. The atmosphere is friendly and cosy. It's worth booking ahead at the weekends. There is a take away service too. Excellent!
The Gillingham Tandoori – ShaftesburyI went to the Dolphin for lunch recently and was pleasantly surprised at the change in atmosphere brought about by the recent change of ownership. The food was in the homely and comforting bracket rather than Cordon Bleu, but priced accordingly. The service was friendly and efficient.
The Dolphin Inn – ShaftesburyThe King's Arm's Inn on the A30 is quite a revelation. I went there 4 years ago and the place is now unrecognisable. It has been refurbished and extended giving a much larger bright light dining area with a modern feel. The extensive menu has a Scottish flavour thanks to the new owners and you can have haggis as a side dish! The haggis is specially sourced from Scotland and it is delicious, as is everything else that I have tried on my numerous visits. The daily lunchtime specials are worth a go at £5. It has been very busy each time I have been there and booking is advisable. The service is very good too.
