Good food well priced although service a bit slow
Ravelston House – EdinburghI don't usually write reviews however I also don't usually have such a poor experience. I felt it needed to be recorded and hopefully they will take on board our comments and strive to do better. We arrived on Mothers day on time. Our table was ready and we were seated. We ordered and waited, and waited, and waited. My mum was the first to comment that we had been waiting a while which we initially dismissed. One by one our party of 4 adults and 2 children felt we had waited a long time. The resaurant was busy but not every table was taken and there appeared to be staff mulling about. Once our meal arrived we were told the 2nd childs macaroni cheese was 'just coming' then we were told 'it would be a couple of minutes' then 15 minutes later we asked where it was. It was a simple kids macaroni cheese and chips. I really feel what should have happened was he should have been offered something, anything at this point so he could eat with us. We then ordered two puddings for the kids and we waited, and waited and waited. An hour and forty five minutes since we sat saown had passed and we had only eaten our mains. After another 15 minutes my mother had to leave. We cancelled the deserts and asked for the bill. The wrong bill was given to us so we had to wait again whilst the correct bill was produced. We left two hours after having sat down and all we had managed to have was a main course. Personally I don't think it was or is good enough. I've decided not to dwell on the portion size of the lamb or pork which my sister and I had. All I will say is we had to have something to eat when we left. Poor value for money. Nouvelle cuisine nicely presented but missing the food.
Ravelston House – EdinburghArrived and was told we could not order any chicken burgers or anything that contained chicken as they had none left, which was literally half the menu cut out. It gave me the choice of basically nothing as I do not eat fish, and did not like the remaining items left on the menu. I therefore had to order a starter and add chips to make it as a makeshift main course… the kitchen staff completely messed that up to and cooked 2 starters with 2 portions of chips which was brought out without being ordered and we were also charged for it, even though it wasn’t eaten because it wasn’t ordered! A big group of 12 then came in for an elderly ladies birthday to which 95% of them were served CHICKEN! As a customer to be told I cannot order something as there is none left, to then have to make up my own main meal with a side and skimpy starter dish, to then see multiple orders of the exact food I wanted come out and be served to another table that comes in 45 minutes AFTER me is an absolute disgrace. Moving onto desert… the waitress tried to tell me that they also didn’t have that desert anymore and I argued and said “it’s written on the board” so you’re own staff don’t even know the menu… Another person at my table ordered the Eton mess that came out with no meringue, so instead it was a half empty glass of cream and strawberries… what’s that all about? Most pathetic dinner service I’ve ever had to be honest.
Ravelston House – EdinburghFood disappointing Service dreadful Staff not the friendliest Will definitely not be returning!!!
Ravelston House – EdinburghAte here on the 12th March so disappointed waited half an hour on our food the table next to us ordered after us but. got their food before us when we asked the waitress why she said because we were having steak it takes longer which in my opinion is utter rubbish a medium rare steak does not take long to cook don’t think I’ll be booking again
Ravelston House – EdinburghFood was excellent, good size portions. Staff very friendly. Will definitely be back.
Ravelston House – EdinburghAll five of us greatly enjoyed the main courses we had. Three had desserts and one cheeseboard then tea & coffee. Again very good.
Ravelston House – EdinburghPopped in for lunch and drinks Excellent service Food was lovely Will be back Highly recommend
Ravelston House – EdinburghWe were left standing supporting a very frail, elderly lady in an almost empty restaurant for an unacceptable amount of time before being seated. The portions were small. The meat in the steak pie was lean and tender but some sort of curry powder or cumin had been added which was not mentioned on the board or by the waitress. If I had wanted a curry I would have asked for that I certainly wouldn’t have selected this had I known. The vegetables were nice. The waitress was not personable (perhaps because the manager had had to come to seat us). I have had much better sticky toffee pudding which was overpriced at £6.25. The room was cold. Won’t be back.
Ravelston House – EdinburghExcellent!
Ravelston House – EdinburghWe had our Golden Wedding Celebrations in the Ravelston on Saturday 26th Feb and it was so lovely with our family and friends. Our meal with all of us was really delicious and the service was very very good. Dean and all his staff done us proud all night. Allan and I stayed over in a lovely room and had a lovely breakfast in the morning. We would recommend it to anybody. Thanking you and your staff . Yours Sheena and Allan Gordon.
Ravelston House – EdinburghHad a lovely meal. Staff very attentive
Ravelston House – EdinburghBeautiful setting and fantastic staff. Portion size was woefully small. Tiny skewers of kofta for starters with a few peashoots to hide the empty plate. Haggis bon bons were good but were meant to be filo parcels. Beef rib main - 3 mouthfuls of beef that was fatty and grisly Pork main arrived without the extras - bacon and apple Sticky toffee pudding was a 5mm slice of cake - again three mouthfuls if that. Really disappointing.
Ravelston House – EdinburghTook the wife for valentines dinner, lovely food, good portions. Could have done with background music. Overall a very good evening.
Ravelston House – EdinburghThree of us were at the Ravelston for lunch yesterday and we all enjoyed it very much. One of us chose a vegetarian option, one had fish and chips which was delicious and my choice was Balmoral chicken which was really tasty and the vegetables were properly cooked but not too hard which can be very tricky.
Ravelston House – EdinburghVery disappointed. Food was average. I had a burger that was very very dry. When I arrived there was no-one around. A cleaner went to find someone for me. The waitress didn't want to be there. When I asked for forks to go with the spoons for our dessert, she clattered them down on the table without a word. We had to catch a different server to order coffee and go to find someone in order to get our bill. There were 4 of us and it cost £30 each before tip. I won't be back
Ravelston House – EdinburghI have been to the ravelston on numerous occasions and its been brilliant. However recently I've been and I am very disappointed in the food. The dessert were very poor to be honest. I had sticky toffee and it was like half a slice of bread with very little sauce. My friend had a cheesecake which came in a prosecco glass. Certainly not how we imagined it would come. The presentation and portions for what you pay for is very disappointing. I'd like to say it can be made better as it used to be a good place for lunch and dinner.
