Anchor Inn – ExeterA tiny vegetarian and vegan restaurant in the heart of Exeter which means it gets packed, especially at lunch time. Great choice of healthy and tasty recipes from around the world, good sized portions, good value and a relaxed atmosphere
Herbies Whole Food Restaurants – ExeterThe best fish and chips I have ever tasted. However the restaurant needs some updating as unfortunately they have tried to retain some traditionalism with the decor and the waiters uniforms etc. I believe that Harry Ramsden's should look at changing their overall appearence. The waiters uniforms for example are rather over the top and could be changed to something more appropriate. It can be swealtering due to the lack of a/c. The food was first class as was the service but that should be expected for the amount charged in all honesty.
Harry Ramsdens – ExeterThis restaurant is outstanding in every department and have enjoyed each time i visit. Has an authentic vibrant mexican atmosphere and the girl with the glasses (name?? sorry) is a delight to be served by. The enchilladas are delicious. Highly recommended.
Mexican, The – ExeterAs always the food was excellent. Only problem is that my wife will not eat anywhere else. It's that good!!!!!
Anchor Inn – ExeterIf I call it old-fashioned, quaint, even the dreaded "nice", it might sound a little derogatory - but I don't mean it to be. It's the perfect place to take your Mum for lunch or a cup of tea when her feet are sore from exploring Deb's and Dingle's. Respectful staff, clean floors and table linen, unpretentious food. No risks, no hassle. Recommended dish: one of the many varieties of welsh rarebit.
Milk Maid The – ExeterPersonable service, plenty of space and excellent food set the Barton Cross apart from town-centre restaurants. Food is reliably first rate and beautifully presented. Plenty of space, company and opportunity for relaxed pre and post dinner banter.
Barton Cross Hotel – ExeterI was in Exeter on business last Monday and was trying to eat somewhere exciting. Half the restaurants were closed which I found highly irregular for a City centre! Any Malysian- no, any Noodle bars-no, any decent modern chinese-no, any wok based street food-no. I was totally underwhelmed, but I remembered a review I had read on Sugarvine about a place called Starz, it took some finding but I was relieved to find it was open. On entering I was expecting to be the only diner but the place was really busy. I thought that I may be crashing a private party but this the owner said was a typical week night. I had found probably the busiest restaurant in Exeter. I ordered a ribeye steak and a fabulous top of the range USA red wine which was ridiculously under priced. The really nice waitress arrived with a huge plate full of the biggest and thickest ribeye I have ever had, tons of crisp and fluffy fries, loads of mushrooms, salad and a pot of peppercorn sauce. In truth I was overfaced but I had a great time, the atmosphere was electric and the service friendly and attentive. I will want to return as soon as I am in Exeter again. The quality of this American restaurant far exceeded the likes of TGI etc, this place had soul.
Starz Bar and Restaurant – ExeterNice place, nice food. I'd go there again.
City Gate – ExeterIntimate atmoshphere, delicious food and excellent service. I travel all over the country, but the Thai Orchid is without doubt my favourite restaurant. Not to be missed.
Thai Orchid Restaurant – ExeterExcellent food and friendly service. Great Pizza and the best icecream I've ever tasted! Highly recomended!
Zizzi – ExeterWe have been here about three times now and it just gets better. The service is a little more relaxed now which is nice. Food is all excellent, from the olives and bread to the perfectly cooked vegetables and delicious main dishes. Thw wine list is well chosen and very reasonable - check out their wine specials. Book well in advance as they are almost always full.
Conservatory The – Exeterthere was a good, friendly atmosphere at the pub and everyone was very friendly. the food was very good for a reasonable price and the drink was good too.
Butterleigh Inn The – ExeterThis place is the BEST place I have eaten in ever. I have gone back time and time again because you are made to feel so special here. The manager is always around to talk to and the staff, well that is a treat in it's self, warm, polite and very helpful. My 14 year old sister was in love with a couple of waiters and didn't know which way to turn. They cater for all walks of life as well as disabled people as I have a disabled brother. I have recommend this place to all my friends and my family loved it greatly. This is the one and only place to visit when in Exeter. I love it. Does that come across that I like this place? I think so.
Starz Bar and Restaurant – ExeterOld Timers is one of Exeter's best restaurants. The atmosphere and food is very unpretentious offering quality recognisable food that is cooked and presented wonderfully. The staff go out of their way to ensure that your evening is satisfactory. I had the Greek Salad as a starter followed by the duck as a main course. I would strongly recommend the duck as the porions were generous and cooked beautifully. The house red was also very good. The restaurant is conveniently placed just a few yards from the centre of the high street and stumbling distance from Timepiece night club making it a very good place to have dinner when celebrating or having work functions.
Old Timers Wine Bar and Restaurant – ExeterIt is what I expected of an ASK which goes many ways. The consistency of quality is upheld, however, I did not find the portions filling and I was left looking around for staff frequently without much attention. It is placed in an idealic setting by the cathedral and I believe is one of the nicer places to eat during the summer time. For a 'pizza' house, I find that the menu is unadventurous and not competitive with many other similar restaurants in Exeter. Many pizza style eateries are close-by and nothing about ASK screams at me to pick on them except for the possible safety in a known chain. Booking for larger parties at lunch in advisable end of week and possibly mandatory for evening dining. However, small numbers mid-week is safe.
ASK – ExeterHarry's is a welcomed addition to Exeter's culinary tapestry. The portions are filling, the ambience is a trendy, rustic bistro like feel that other places have tried and failed at achieving. The location off the high street keeps it special. I have never had a bad night at Harry's and the menu is pleasantly surprising. The house wine is good (red and white), however, curiously priced as some bottles should probably not be priced as highly as they are and others should be lower for what they are. Easily, one of the most reliable and enjoyable places to eat in Exeter.
Harrys Restaurant – ExeterNow I am not a fan of pizza houses but Zizzi's in Exeter is more than that. Against all my better judgment I am also not a huge fan of national chains unless they have a very good product you can always rely on. Zizzis has all of this I feel. I eat at Zizzi's regularly and its main outstanding features are its ambience: warming, cosy and intimate even with such a large space. The trademark oven with chefs cooking infront of you is always a comfort and distraction if your food is taking a while (which it never has). The staff are very friendly and do give a genuine impression of caring for their customers. As a red wine drinker, the wine list humbling, even their house red. Their food is made very well and the portions are generous. I normally eat the Capriciossa pizza with rocket side salad and the large house Merlot. Again, it is pizza and pasta but done in a way that doesn't scream turnstile. I would recommend it to anyone and look forward to my next time there.
