The Greyhound on the Test – WinchesterAbsolutely disgusting my food came out stone cold and when I confronted management, I got told to leave the premises. Obviously they have terrible management and poor staff.
Kimbridge Restaurant and Annies Tearooms – WinchesterAte here on saturday evening having only just discovered it a couple of weeks ago. Food was ok this time, the starter of Fish Mezze was oily, greasy and way too heavy on fried stuff. Mains of sea bass and lamb were good, pudding (we have a sharer plate) two out of three were excellent (tarte tatin and the creme brulee). But very disappointed to hear it is owned by a big chain and that the food isn't really created in house, just shipped in ready to cook/heat up. Very very disappointed. So will not be returning.
The Old Forge – Winchesterordered main meals for 2. 1st one arrived(both same choice) I and second one arrived whilst we were eating pudding. will not visit this establishment or recommend it to any one. in a word. Rubbish. The salmon was supposed to be wrapped in pancetta but it was bacon. pudding both good.
The Bridge – WinchesterGo somewhere else We booked for a Sunday lunch/birthday celebration. Undoubtedly the worst dining experience we've ever had: One of the two draught beers had run out No lamb (at 1.30pm) One starter missed Table too small for party, despite advance booking Most food passable, but roast chicken dried out and tasteless, vegetables poor Huge wait between courses, 30 minute wait for dessert menu, complained - order taken and dessert still not served, asked for bill after further 30mins and desserts hadn't even been been started. Far too expensive for the menu. Service absolutely dreadful, not the staff's fault - poor management and just not enough staff. We had two drinks in the 2.5 hours we were there for the two courses we got, staff don't come around often enough to take orders. Seriously, go somewhere else. Do not give the Bridge at Shawford your patronage.
The Bridge – WinchesterMy wife Chris and I went to the Winchester restaurant on Monday 23.08.2010 to celebrate her birthday. On entering the venue we thought the appearance was excellent -minimalistic but stylish. We were greeted warmly by friendly staff and served without delay. No pressure was made with drinks but we chose a couple of small Cobra beers to put us in the mood while we chose from the extensive menu. We eventually settled for Vegetable Pakora for Chris's starter and Goan Style Beef for mine and clay oven Grilled Chicken With Black Beans for Chris's main course and Tandor Roasted Rack Of Lamb for mine with a side order of spiced chickpeas and saffron rice to share. Well, we were absolutely captivated and thrilled by the food. We had tasters of each other's choices and thought everything was just excellent. Spicy yet not too hot and all the meat was perfectly cooked - tender and succulent. The only sadness was finishing the meal(although we were certainly satisfied by the portions). It's our 16th Wedding Anniversary next month and guess where we are planning to celebrate?? Right first time! Many thanks to the manager and staff for a terrific evening.
Rimjhim – WinchesterAn excellent pub, with, by prior arrangement, excellent food for a party of about 30 persons. A friendly group of locals & a landlady who "pulled the stops out" for our party, & made us really welcome. The food was, for all our party, very good, & we have no hesitation in recommending The Five Bells !
The Five Bells – WinchesterI went there for a romantic meal and was slightly nervous as I approached the building, on walking in all was forgiven. It is fun, relaxed and respectable in one breath. Staff were delightful and the food even better. Oh for more romantic evenings
The Black Rat Restaurant – WinchesterVery nice place for lunch or dinner with an original menu. The staff were very friendly and the food was food of flavour. This is an old converted pub and has its own quirky character. We liked that we were not rushed and the staff had time to explain the menu and suggest some good wine
The Black Rat Restaurant – WinchesterHad a lovely lunch here the other day. Three Oysters to start followed by Smoked Haddock Chowder. The bill came to less than £15 with a glass of wine. The place was buzzing and I really enjoyed it.
Loch Fyne – WinchesterI love the pizzas here, you know exactly what you are going to get. The wines are also great value.
