have visited a couple of Michelin starred restaurants and the box tree is easily within this category. The ambience is romantic and cosy. The staff are attentive without being obtrusive. There was an extensive wine list which could have been daunting but the wine manager was helpful without being patronising Food - I chose the scallops with a creamy sauce which was good but overshadowed by my partners choice of guinea fowl with foie gras and lentils cooked in pork jus which was to die for. Main course I chose the fillet of beef and my partner had veal. Mine was outstanding whilst my partner said his was extremely good. We decided not to have deserts as we were full but these looked delicious. We finished with a desert wine and port which were both fantastic - my partner going for the ?elected port?which turned out to be a 1967 fine port (can? remember the name!) We asked for some petit fours with our wines (we don? like coffee) and the waiter appeared with a wooden box with hand made chocolates from which he gave us a selection. The total cost for two including pre-dinner drinks, wine and port/desert wine was £140. Not cheap but worth every penny and a very special treat. I would definitely go back.
