Plato's is a fine establishment! Great food and drink in the heart of this lovely village.
Plato’s – Kirkby Lonsdale
Kirkby Lonsdale is a historic market town located on the border between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales on the River Lune. Famous for it's Devils Bridge - a regular meeting place for motorcyclists and it's Victorian Fair held every September. There are many dining options including pubs, tearooms and hotels.
Plato's is a fine establishment! Great food and drink in the heart of this lovely village.
Plato’s – Kirkby LonsdaleMy wife and I have visited The Tearooms quite often on a weekend, we have always eaten the All Day Breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Staff are very pleasant and the food is cooked to a high standard, no grease at all. The cakes are excellent too!!!
Cariad Coffee House and Tearoom – Kirkby LonsdaleGreat food, simple menu of british classics with great open fires and service to match.
The Highwayman – Kirkby LonsdalePlatos is a tapas cafe with all day English food. It used to good, but today we were all disappointed with the fare. Hard cooked eggs florentine and burgers like hockey pucks were discussed around the table. The eggs were replaced at speed and with grace and a smile. Today was maybe, just a bad day at the stoves. I hope so as Platos is a pleasing child friendly venue.
Plato’s – Kirkby LonsdaleHad Lancashire Hotpot - very little meat nor carrots. It did have a good enough taste and the sliced potato on top well done.
The Highwayman – Kirkby LonsdaleMy hubby and I ate at the Pheasant Inn last night and were bowled over by its fresh and welcoming new decor and fabulous food. I had the homemade scotch egg to start, it was soft and herby served with very crisp Parma ham and a mushroom ragout, hubby had the pressed rabbit which was amazing, really meaty served with a sweet chutney and spicy vegetables. The mains got better! My halibut was fried to perfection, but the show stopper was the locally sourced venison, incredible! So tender and tasty served with a red wine reduction mmmmmm. Hats off to Duncan, your food is fabulous and thank you Heather for your generosity in letting us stay with you. We will be back!
The Pheasant Inn – Kirkby LonsdaleFood poisoning for two days. Avoid.
Spice Essence – Kirkby LonsdaleWOW, went to the Highwayman yesterday 28/08/11 and the food, selection of drinks and attentiveness was spot on. I've not enjoyed a meal out as much in a long time - what a little gem! I had the roast beef Sunday lunch, the rib of beef was sublime and my partner had the duck, not too strong with a lovely garlic potato gratin. Thank You
The Highwayman – Kirkby LonsdaleMy wife & I stayed here on 4 & 5/07/2011. The Taster Menu was sampled on the first evening & we could only manage 7 of the 8 courses. We opted out of the Sticky Toffee pudding as we had no room for it! All courses were of a very high standard & the staff were friendly but not familiar. The breakfasts were most enjoyable and the evening meal on the 2nd night was also delicious. We stayed in the four poster bedroom and spent a most comfortable time. Living in Central Scotland will not prevent us returning once I've managed to shed some weight. A lovely experience.
Barbon Inn and Restaurant – Kirkby LonsdaleWhilst holidaying in Kirkby Lonsdale we opted for a take away from Spice Essence. The food was reasonably priced and very nice. It looked really nice inside and was busy even early in the evening
Spice Essence – Kirkby LonsdaleWe have just returned from a few days away in Kirkby Lonsdale. This was our first visit to the area and so had no idea where to eat. We were recommended by locals to go to Spice Essence. It was one of the best Indian restaurants we have been to, it is situated above a beautiful little courtyard and on a warm evening there are tables outside. Not expensive and the service was excellent. We will definitely go back on our next visit to the area.
Spice Essence – Kirkby LonsdaleMe and my wife have eaten out in the cariad lots of times, we keep going back because you can take your dogs in which is good we have 2 and the food is really good and good value for your money, all the cakes and food is all homemade and the staff are all polite and helpful, i would recommend it,
Cariad Coffee House and Tearoom – Kirkby Lonsdalei have family in this area and always visit the cariad as it has a lovely welcoming atmosphere, it caters for children and dogs too. lovely place and will continue to visit.
Cariad Coffee House and Tearoom – Kirkby LonsdaleVisited this place while stopping at the Plato hotel, We were just doing some shopping and fancied a brew to warm up, as the weather was freezing my toes. But we ended up having a sandwich & a piece of homemade cake too. They have all different kinds of Coffees & Tea's and the cake was to die for & value for money, The young girl who was waiting on was really helpful when asked about the area, and where best to visit, and also on "talking us into having a slice of cake" : ) Well done
Cariad Coffee House and Tearoom – Kirkby LonsdaleWe were staying in the area and were recommended to The Plough we were very disappointed. Service was slow, unfriendly and lacking in sophistication. starters were tasty, nice idea to have the small plates but my main course was served tepid and bland. An unfortunate experience maybe teething troubles?.
The Plough at Lupton – Kirkby LonsdaleFood average, service slow, if as much effort went into delivering great food as they put into marketing and telling you the grid reference of what was on your plate was reared, it would be fantastic
The Highwayman – Kirkby LonsdalePopped in last night late on as we were travelling back from the Lakes. The Plough has had a gorgeous refurb, period yet modern. The menu is modern too with its tapas style options. We had Chorizo and beans, seared beef, terriyaki salmon and chicken noodles all of which were tasty and well presented. All was washed down by a fine pint of Cumberland Ale. Would definitely return!
The Plough at Lupton – Kirkby LonsdaleStunning venue and very tastefully renovated establishment completely let down by some of the worst service I have ever experienced when eating out! It took us over 2 hours to have starters and main courses for 6 people! The staff where nowhere to be seen. Not once did our waitress come and ask how our meals were and when we received our Caesar Salad, it had Anchovies on it! For someone who dislikes fish this wasn't something I could eat so when I politely asked the waitress if I could return the salad and explained why, she very rudely spoke to me as if I was some sort of imbecile, apparently all Caesar Salads are served with Anchovies! I remarked that I had never heard of that and that I do not eat fish and she again answered me back with attitude! She did however ask if we would prefer a Caesar Salad without Anchovies I thought that this would be then end of the matter but on receipt of our new salad it was clear from the taste that it was the same item but with the offending fishes picked off! How to loose customer satisfaction in an instance! Needless to say we left the salad and although we did end up paying for it, my wife mentioned to the waitress when we came to pay and she was then rude to her also remarking that she had personally supervised our new salad herself, to my disgust this was in a way saying that we were liars and it can't have been a fish taste in our Caesar Salad! Why on earth is this bolshy, argumentative woman in the hospitality industry, I would seriously consider a career change to perhaps the prison service luv! If you are considering a trip out to the Plough Inn, then my advise is don't bother, the food is over priced, the staff are inattentive and from our experience rude and argumentative! You also will pay for absolutely everything as an addition to the main items on the menu, i.e. you want vegetables with your meal... you pay extra! you want sauce with you meal... you pay extra! you want bread with your meal... you pay extra! you want chips with that... guess what? yes, you pay extra! Come on Plough, this is what I would have expected from a Michelin star establishment with attentive, polite and friendly staff, fine cuisine and an experience to warrant the price tag!
