Cariad Coffee House and Tearoom – Kirkby Lonsdale
Kirkby Lonsdale is a historic market town located on the border between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales on the River Lune. Famous for it's Devils Bridge - a regular meeting place for motorcyclists and it's Victorian Fair held every September. There are many dining options including pubs, tearooms and hotels.

Cariad Coffee House and Tearoom – Kirkby LonsdaleVisited this place while stopping at the Plato hotel, We were just doing some shopping and fancied a brew to warm up, as the weather was freezing my toes. But we ended up having a sandwich & a piece of homemade cake too. They have all different kinds of Coffees & Tea's and the cake was to die for & value for money, The young girl who was waiting on was really helpful when asked about the area, and where best to visit, and also on "talking us into having a slice of cake" : ) Well done
Cariad Coffee House and Tearoom – Kirkby LonsdaleWe were staying in the area and were recommended to The Plough we were very disappointed. Service was slow, unfriendly and lacking in sophistication. starters were tasty, nice idea to have the small plates but my main course was served tepid and bland. An unfortunate experience maybe teething troubles?.
The Plough at Lupton – Kirkby LonsdaleFood average, service slow, if as much effort went into delivering great food as they put into marketing and telling you the grid reference of what was on your plate was reared, it would be fantastic
The Highwayman – Kirkby LonsdalePopped in last night late on as we were travelling back from the Lakes. The Plough has had a gorgeous refurb, period yet modern. The menu is modern too with its tapas style options. We had Chorizo and beans, seared beef, terriyaki salmon and chicken noodles all of which were tasty and well presented. All was washed down by a fine pint of Cumberland Ale. Would definitely return!
The Plough at Lupton – Kirkby LonsdaleStunning venue and very tastefully renovated establishment completely let down by some of the worst service I have ever experienced when eating out! It took us over 2 hours to have starters and main courses for 6 people! The staff where nowhere to be seen. Not once did our waitress come and ask how our meals were and when we received our Caesar Salad, it had Anchovies on it! For someone who dislikes fish this wasn't something I could eat so when I politely asked the waitress if I could return the salad and explained why, she very rudely spoke to me as if I was some sort of imbecile, apparently all Caesar Salads are served with Anchovies! I remarked that I had never heard of that and that I do not eat fish and she again answered me back with attitude! She did however ask if we would prefer a Caesar Salad without Anchovies I thought that this would be then end of the matter but on receipt of our new salad it was clear from the taste that it was the same item but with the offending fishes picked off! How to loose customer satisfaction in an instance! Needless to say we left the salad and although we did end up paying for it, my wife mentioned to the waitress when we came to pay and she was then rude to her also remarking that she had personally supervised our new salad herself, to my disgust this was in a way saying that we were liars and it can't have been a fish taste in our Caesar Salad! Why on earth is this bolshy, argumentative woman in the hospitality industry, I would seriously consider a career change to perhaps the prison service luv! If you are considering a trip out to the Plough Inn, then my advise is don't bother, the food is over priced, the staff are inattentive and from our experience rude and argumentative! You also will pay for absolutely everything as an addition to the main items on the menu, i.e. you want vegetables with your meal... you pay extra! you want sauce with you meal... you pay extra! you want bread with your meal... you pay extra! you want chips with that... guess what? yes, you pay extra! Come on Plough, this is what I would have expected from a Michelin star establishment with attentive, polite and friendly staff, fine cuisine and an experience to warrant the price tag!
The Plough at Lupton – Kirkby LonsdaleI had a fantastic meal at The Plough, the choice on the menu is fantastic, and the option to personalise your meal with your own choices of sides is inspired. the atmosphere is very comfortable and inviting, the food excellent, the staff attentive but unobtrusive and its all great value for money. I would thoroughly recommend a night at the Plough, and will definitely be returning myself as soon as I get the opportunity! 10 out of 10!!
The Plough at Lupton – Kirkby LonsdaleThe Plough is the ‘sister hotel’ to the Punchbowl @ Crosthwaite. The food, as you would expect, is excellent. There is a real freedom of choice with the menu - the 'small plates' are exactly as they say which means you can order lots of different starters! The 'grills' menu has a great choice and you order your 'sides' separately which means you have a great choice and it is REALLY good value. There is a great atmosphere, the staff are excellent... what more can I say. A great night out - 10 out of 10
The Plough at Lupton – Kirkby LonsdaleHi Sandra and All the Staff at The Barbon Just wanted to say again 'many thanks for this weekend'. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you even though we nearly drank you dry of carver !!! The food, accommodation and staff were fantastic and a great weekend was had by all. I certainly have many happy memories of my 50th Birthday and will certainly return to The Barbon again (once i have had chance to diet a bit !!!).
Barbon Inn and Restaurant – Kirkby LonsdaleDear staff of the Barbon Inn, Just to say a huge thank you to all of you for a most enjoyable Mother's Day lunch yesterday. From the moment we were offered a delicious complimentary glass of wine on arrival we were made to feel most welcome. All six of us thoroughly enjoyed the meals we chose - not always the case when you try somewhere new and are not sure what to have, and especially as my 3 children are pretty fussy eaters. As I said to the lady who served us, the venison pie was the most delicious pie I have ever eaten bar none! The tables were beautifully decorated and the service was warm and attentive. All in all the perfect meal out. Even the toilets were a bit special! I must confess that I found you by accident on the Internet when searching for somewhere else and I'm so glad I did. Unfortunately living in Keighley we are not exactly on the doorstep but would love to come back soon. Can you recommend anywhere to camp in your beautiful valley, so that we can hopefully pay a return visit when the weather warms up? Once again many thanks, Regards, The Spence family, Keighley, W. Barbon Inn and Restaurant – Kirkby LonsdaleThe Barbon Inn is set in a beautiful village, with fantastic views and great local attractions. The bar is very welcoming with a good selection of real ales and fine wines and has a real wood burning fire (which will be great on those wintery nights). The staff are polite and very helpful. The food was of an extremely high quality, using the best of the local produce, we were really spoilt for choice with the menu. The bedrooms are well decorated and very clean. All in all we enjoyed our stay very much and would heartily recommend this Inn to anyone wanting a relaxing break in the Lake District or a really nice meal in warm friendly atmosphere.
Barbon Inn and Restaurant – Kirkby LonsdaleMy wife and I had an evening meal at this restaurant last night. The welcome was very friendly. The food was excellent home cooked food and was well presented from a reasonable menu. The best part was the price, which was only £7.50 for 3 courses - excellent value for money. Well worth a visit!
Copper Kettle – Kirkby LonsdaleThis is a great place, I have eaten here a few times, the food and service is always fantastic, its well worth a visit…..you will not be disappointed!!!!!!
Went here on Sunday lunchtime, car-park was almost full but we got seated straight away. The staff are all lovely, welcoming - all smiling. The price of the food was very reasonable for the quality of what was served. Everything we had was sublime. Even the drinks weren't too pricy - £2.25 for a cappuccino with a slab of Grasmere gingerbread was really good for a pub with great food as you often find they hike the drinks up. We paid £53 + tip for 3 courses, two pints, two soft drinks & a cappuccino - very good price for what we got, and we couldn't eat another bite all day!!
The Highwayman – Kirkby LonsdaleWe ate in this restaurant today and I can honestly say it is the worse meal we have ever had. I ordered an 'oven baked' potato and it had never seen an oven in its life other than a microwave one. It also cost £5.95 that was over the top I thought My husband had steak pie which was dry and the mash had lumps in it and the plate was swimming in cheap gravy The waitresses were surly and never asked if anything was OK. We often use Sugarvine and they had a glowing Sugarvine review in the window. This review was not dated so I presume it was from years ago. A very bad experience that will certainly not be repeated by us! The whole lunch also cost over £15 that was money thrown away in our opinion.
Cariad Coffee House and Tearoom – Kirkby Lonsdale12 noon Thursday 6th March 2008 found us on the Car Park of this lovely place which used to be a 'watering-hole' for my wife and me in our 1960's courting years. 12.03pm found us in the establishment, warmly welcomed and left to find our own table for two by a lovely fire. A relaxed drink whilst ordering our meal was complemented by the pleasant personal service. We were lucky. At 12.30pm, most all of the tables were in use and, this isn't a small place. Fish and Chips was the order of the day for us and lovely they were. We were more than satisfied with our service and meal and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good local 'fayre'. As for the 'fish un chips' this could only be equalled by the Ship Hotel at Elswick on the Fylde and the Greyhound at Halton near Lancaster. Michael T. Loose
The Highwayman – Kirkby LonsdaleGreat atmosphere, tasteful interior, super choice of high quality meals, very reasonably priced, attentive service. Wonderful
Avanti Restaurant – Kirkby LonsdaleArrived at 2 on easter Monday and there was still a 20-minute wait. Just goes to show that if you do things right people will come, no matter where it is. Good comfort food sourced from local suppliers served efficiently in pleasant surroundings. Not rocket science but you have to wonder why so few pubs get it right. Recommended -- along with sister pub The Three Fishes near Clitheroe.
