Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamSuper food, huge portions & excellent ambience. Just lovely.
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamAte at Henry’s on Saturday 1st March with a friend. Booked for 7pm, arrived at 6:50pm and stood waiting for a while at the bar to be served. Decided to go over to the restaurant area where we were greeted by a man who said they were just clearing out table…10 minutes later we were seated. 30 minutes went by and no drinks order was taken, the girl finally came and took our drinks and food order and then the waiting begun. We ordered pork belly bites to start followed by the beef brisket. The brisket came at the same time as the starters, but we accepted this. The pork belly bites were so fatty with hardly any pork in there, drenched in a very strong BBQ sauce. The beef brisket was also drenched in another very strong BBQ sauce but was like warm at best, despite being served on warm plates. The waitress apologised and exchanged both dishes quickly, the new mains were piping hot and tasted nice. The corn on the cob that came with the mains was a tiny portion. Normally you would expect half a cob with a meal like that, however we received a half that had then been quartered! Half way through the meal we ordered more drinks which never arrived. We felt extremely sorry for the waitresses as they were clearly trying their hardest with what seemed to be very little training. Listening to other tables conversations I would confidently say no one else in our vicinity had a positive experience with either the food quality nor the service.
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamVisited a week ago and didn’t want to review immediately. On reflection I still feel the same. Food wasn’t great, certainly wasn’t American style BBQ (I’m a keen bbq enthusiast and have visited bbq competitions in the US). The brisket was dry and resembled well done roast beef with little to no bark, and surprisingly is cooked in a bbq sauce so you can’t have that on the side. The ribs were flavoursome if a little fatty but were served almost lukewarm. The mac n cheese might as well have been mac n milk, the saving grace was the side of pork ‘burnt ends’. I won’t put much stress on the poor service as the young girls appear not to have had any training and is easily overcome if the food is fantastic. Which it was not. I suspect the courses took so long to arrive as they were making sure the brisket was dry and my ribs had cooled enough to be handled by a child. Total time 2.5hrs for 2 course. 3 people. Hopefully things improve as we’d love to have a PROPER bbq restaurant locally, other than Hickory’s. Seems like the marketing and idea of the place far outweigh the delivery. It wasn’t terribly expensive though.

Ian Thomas 11 reviews 6 hours ago NEW Dine in | Dinner | £40–50 Bit of a mixed review. Overall the food was very good and we would return after this, our first visit. As previous reviews the staff are still finding their feet so I hope this review is viewed as constructive criticism. We had previously booked our table for 4 so were shown to our table when we arrived. After taking our seats a waitress came and asked us if we would like to order drinks, unfortunately we had no drinks menu so had to ask for one so that we could order our drinks, 1 was brought over for 4 people. Another waitress then came over and asked if we were ready to order food, we hadn't had time to decide on drinks yet and then had to ask for the wine list as there was none on the drinks menu. The waiter that delivered the drinks picked all 4 glasses up by the rim which is not good practice and with better training can be eliminated. Again I emphasise all the staff were very pleasant. 2 prawn and 1 rib starter were ordered and arrived in reasonable time. The ribs were nice but a very small portion for the price £9.50; this poor value was repeated by the prawns, only 6 for £10. Very ordinary king prawns that were overcooked and rubbery and certainly didn't appear to be fire kissed although the sauce was tasty. Mains were 1 Bacon double cheese burger, 2 beef brisket and 1 rump steak. All 4 mains were very tasty although didn't have any hint of smoke through the cooking. The accompanying coleslaw although tasty was an absolute joke as it was served in a tiny mayo cup, the tots were a pleasant change from fries and were well seasoned. Only half a corn cob was also very mean. The brisket portions were generous in comparison, the steak better than M & C although the blue cheese sauce was more peppery than cheesey. The nachos side was a mixed bag, the nachos were lovely (proper not a well known branded snack) but had barely sniffed cheese and the dip portions far too small. The wines were delivered whilst enjoying the starters, we had ordered 2 different glasses of red when delivered we asked which was which, the waiter in seeking to confirm which was the Merlot put his nose right over the glass and sniffed to confirm which was which, again this is down to training. 2 key lime pie and 1 peach and apple cobbler for desert. All yummy no faults although it would of been nice to be able to have cream instead of ice cream on the cobbler (I did ask). £180 for the 4 of us. We will leave it a while before returning and hope by the time we do the staff training issues will have been addressed and the the accompaniment portion sizes (other reviewers have made similar comments) will be more acceptable. Food: 4/5 | Service: 3/5 | Atmosphere: 4/5
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamHad a lovely meal. My husband, son and I shared mac and cheese and tacos for starters. Husband and I had brisket which was lovely and tender. Son had a burger and really enjoyed it. The coleslaw pots could have been a bit bigger. My husband was very impressed with the cask ales. All in all we were very impressed and will definitely eat here again.
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamHenry's smokehouse, Kirkham review for daughters 10th birthday. Initially rang Henry's smokehouse 13 times on Sunday 25th February to book a table for Friday 1st March. Answered on 13th call (in 40 minute time frame) with "hello", I had to ask if it was Henry's smokehouse to which a male manager said it was, I asked to book a table and gave details of numbers and time and was informed all was ok and male explained as to why using a mobile number etc and that I'd have to preorder due to their being so many people, which was fine. I informed the male I'd gather everyone's meals and the man said I could whatsapp them, I said I'd send the list on the Monday 26th and then asked if someone would reply to this to confirm my pre orders to confirm they'd received them and the male said someone would. In the middle of trying to get through to them during the 13 calls over the phone, I emailed them to book the table. I got a reply Monday 26th to my email to say they were fully booked, I replied to say I'd got through in the end over the phone and have my name etc and got a reply confirming my booking. (Good to have a reply on a closed day but no reply to my WhatsApp message) I went online to check if tables could still be booked as thought fully booked quickly overnight. I could still book a maximum of 8 people for all times available (roughly 16 times available) so we're they fully booked at that point? I'll never know. Messaged the 12 peoples pre orders on Monday 26th (Henry's closed Mondays and Tuesdays), it got to Wednesday 28th at 4pm and I'd heard nothing so messaged again and got an instant reply. It shouldn't have needed me to send another message for them to respond to me. They replied and said that what I'd sent was ok and looked forward to seeing us all. On Friday 1st March, arrived at Henry's Smokehouse early around 5.35pm with table booked for 6pm. We then purchased drinks at the bar whilst waiting for other family members coming from different places. Informed a male member of staff that I'd booked a table for 12, the man didn't ask under what name or time and walked off after acknowledging me. The male came back around 5 minutes later to say "I've made your table up and put menus on the table". I informed the male I'd already preordered so menus were taken off the table. I then gave my daughter birthday cake to a female member of staff who took it into the kitchen with the candles handed in too. Why was the table only put together when we arrived as restaurant was over half empty and was booked in. We waited for the rest of the family members before going through to our table at 6.05pm. We all sat down and chatted and not one member of staff came over to say anything so we didn't know if our preorders were cooking or did the kitchen even know we'd arrived? I had to ask a member of staff by finding one if we had to do anything or would our pre orders be coming to us. The member of staff went to ask and said the kitchen was cooking them and they'd be around 10 minutes. During waiting for our food, not one member of staff asked if we'd like any drinks (we all ordered at the bar before sitting at the table, but normally restaurant staff ask tables if would like any more drinks) Our meals arrived at the table at 6.45pm, better late than never, but on the plus side they all arrived together which was a bonus. Food was tasty and hot, no complaints really about the food apart from the coleslaw (house slaw), wow, the pot was the size of a 2p top and around 3/4 of an inch deep (around a teaspoons worth) Once all the meals had been brought out, a member of staff asked if we'd like any sauces, so named sauces to them which were brought to us ok. Again though, none of us were asked if we wanted any more drinks. We all ate out meals and stacked the plates at the end. Male staff then eventually saw the stacked Tetris/Jenga style plates and took them away. No one asked if the meals were ok. I asked a male if we could order the kids desserts as kids have a meal deal including a drink and dessert. The male then got a pen out his pocket and wrote down the desserts on the palm of his hand. I said "you can get some paper if you want." The male then went after writing the desserts on his hand. Again no one was asked if we wanted any more drinks and we weren't asked if we wanted any desserts. The 3 desserts didn't take too long to come and the kids enjoyed them, well presented too as were the mains. I then asked for the cake I'd brought in and asked if they could please put the candles and little sign in the cake, I also asked was it ok to light the candles to which the female staff member said "I'll ask". 10 minutes later and no cake brought out so asked another member of staff. Cake was finally brought out with lit candles, hoorah! Cake put on table and we all sang happy birthday. Male staff then brought forks and side plates, thank you for that. Asked for a big knife to cut the cake and one brought out after around 5 minutes. At 8pm, I asked for the bill, no bill by 8.10pm so asked again, bill finally brought out at 8.20pm and female did apologie it took so long, I started asking her a question and she rudely ignored me and started saying bye to a table leaving behind us. Upon checking the bill, at the top were drinks that we never ordered as never even got the opportunity to. £40's worth! If we hadn't checked the bill, we'd have paid for our invisible drinks. Went to the bar and the lady did take them off but also informed of the diabolical service by all staff detailing the issues and that we wouldn't be returning. Poor Caitlyn received the brunt of it all. Whilst sorting all the issues out a lady with her bill was next to me and said she wasn't very happy either. I know it's only been open a month, but seriously if your going to open a business, make sure you know what your doing and your staff are fully trained. 5-6 floor staff and not an overly big place but most tables taken so yes you were busy but it didn't account for all the issues. If you like waiting at a restaurant then this is an ideal place for you but if you like a service then don't go. Overall the food was good. Hickory's all the way even though it costs more!
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamNot a great first visit, Table booked arrived on time, got a drink at the bar and was sat down at the table, menus given food ordered and that was it for 90 mins, not asked if we wanted another drink or explaining why the food was so long coming. we were just about to stand up and walk out when we noticed 2 staff members asking other tables if this was their food, finally food on the table only took 90 mins. Food looked very nice but that’s where it ended, Luke warm, so that’s where we let, paid and left. Service non existent. I do understand that this has only been open for a short time, however reading the other reviews it seems others are very happy with the food and service, might give it another go in 6 months.
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamThe service was fine and the atmosphere of the place was fine but the food was highly disappointing, especially for the price point. The "Tater Tots" are in fact just circular fried potatoes, actual Tater Tots in the states are more akin to a hash brown or croquette. I ordered the brisket which was drowning in overly potent BBQ sauce, likely to cover up the fact they were thin slices or mediocre quality meat. The coleslaw container is so small you might as well not bother. The food is of a cheap quality and lack lustre presentation yet priced quite expensive. I would not return.
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamWent Sunday evening had a great meal the service was top notch from the minute we walked in and was not rushed
Buraq – KirkhamNice, welcoming pub. Rustic decor. Had a lovely meal. Staff friendly & helpful. Service a bit slow but it was quite busy. I had 16 hour smoked brisket which was so tender. The bourbon/bbq sauce was more bbq than bourbon but still very nice. My hubby had a burger which he said was really tasty. All in all had a lovely meal. Would recommend.
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamExcellent Sunday lunch plenty of meat on the plate to please my partner staff attentive and polite definitely recommend keep it up Henry’s
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamOverall a good visit to Henry smokehouse. Food was delicious nice and hot but it did take a bit of time to come out of the kitchen. Only other criticism of food was my mother in law salmon was a little on small side. Price of food was great no issues here. Service from all staff members was great. Very attentive throughout the service. Speed of kitchen needs a bit of work though like I said before. Just a couple of things would point out from visit. Cleanliness needs an improvement. High chair was very dirty and could see a lot of cobwebs around. Need to utilise space a bit more. You could have got more covers in without turning people away. Maybe have the hostess at the front door so they can communicate better with guests. This will be as you have just opened and finding your way. We will come and visit again. We are looking forward to the progress of the business going forward
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamWanted to try Henry’s as my wife and I are both fans of American style BBQ, booked a table for 1930 and arrived at 1925. Upon checking in we were advised our table would be ready in 5 minutes and to have a drink in the bar. Bar was nice, good selection of beers and no/low alcohol options, unfortunately the fountain soft drinks were out of gas so unavailable. After 10 mins a member of staff came to tel us our table was just being readied and she would be back for us very shortly. 30 mins later I approached a member of staff behind the bar to ask about our table, to be asked if we were a party of 4 or 5. I told him a party of 2, he replied that he had tables for two available and to bear with him a minute. He then disappeared. 10 mins later we gave up and went to Hickory’s in Thornton instead. Frustrating experience.
Henry’s Smokehouse – KirkhamExcellent food
