Dawsons – KirkhamThe food's always spot on and I'm there regularly every week. I recently tried a two course Sunday lunch and it was something special. I'll be back on a Sunday as soon as I can make it and I'll have three courses this time.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamThis used to be decent country pub but has gradually gone done hill over the last three or so years. What used to be consistently good is now bland and cheap.Cheap as in the ingredients they use.We used to eat here quite often but have just eaten our last ever meal here. It seems if you're not ordering a £16 sirloin or something more expensive they simply do not care how it tastes or is presented. They used to do decent kids meals here too but now their idea of a good balanced meal for a kid is to deep fry strips of chicken and i do mean deep fry. They're swimming in grease and fat to the point of being sloppy in the middle. You get a better meal at a brewers fayre but then again i guess that's why they're a chain and the eagle and child isn't. The beer is overpriced and the lager is generally tepid and flat. the same can be said for the soft drinks which come in a half full glass! The pub itself could be described as "rustic" which it is to a certain extent however now its starting to verge on scruffy and possibly dirty. If you're planning on enjoying a nice sunny afternoon by eating outside then make sure you bring a can of wasp repellent because the front of the pub is absolutely plagued by them to the point that you just cannot at all at any point relax. Well that's my opinion anyway.I don't normally go in for reviewing/slagging off places and god knows we've been loyal to this place over the years but unfortunately there's been far too much resting on laurels and trying to trim overheads that what used to be good about this place has well and truly gone. There are many far better places to eat around the area so id advise you to look anywhere but here.
The Eagle at Weeton – KirkhamBrilliant food will definitely go again, friendly welcoming pub
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamWe've had several family parties there and visited the Villa for meals and put up family and friends over the last few years. So we were rather sad at our last visit earlier this year to find that the menu did not live up to expectations - the quantities had been severely pared back. That's a pity because we enjoyed what food we had. It's a great mistake to cut the portions in order to keep the price down. The Villa has always been a better than average experience - they shouldn't undermine their previous well-justified good reputation in this way. By the way, I wrote to the Villa but did not receive a reply. NB We did not stay - just a Sunday lunch with our family from Australia taken there specially for a good experience.
The Villa Country House Hotel – KirkhamThe Villa in Wrea Green is under new ownership and has a new chef. Due to this things have improved both in terms of the food and the venue itself. It is a big wedding venue these days. Our meal was good as was the service from the professionally trained front of house team. My only complaint was the long delay between starter and main, however the place had a couple of functions on as well as normal dinner service. For that reason I will give them a break. One of the best places in the Fylde. It will be interesting to see how it develops from here.
The Villa Country House Hotel – Kirkham** Wonderful dining experience ** Having already visited the restaurant earlier in the year with a group of friends and enjoyed it, I took my husband on Friday 22nd July 2011 as a surprise. Initially, this looked to be a disastrous choice since although the menu is updated regularly, it is limited and unfortunately there was little he fancied. In addition, I'm veggy, and the vegetarian main course, as there was only the one to choose from, was risotto, which I'm no great fan of. Not to be deterred, I asked whether there was any specials on, which for my husband, a rib eye steak with goose fat cooked chips then had an alluring appeal. For myself, after talking to very knowledgeable and obliging staff, a bespoke culinary delight was created which consisted of mash, vegetables and poached eggs, together with a selection of flavoured butters. This description doesn't really do it justice but it was exquisitely presented and was cooked to perfection. The 4 butters, (including blue cheese, garlic and truffle, chilli and a lemony one, were served on a slate and designed to be mixed with the mash. My husband said the chips, which were monstrous, were the best he'd ever tasted along with the peppercorn sauce that accompanied the dish. I was full from my main course and complementary hot bread rolls which were delicious, however, my husband said he could manage a sweet. Being a chocolate lover, he selected the 'chocolate' dessert which consists of a dark chocolate fondant, white chocolate mousse and milk chocolate and tonka bean mousse. Again, this was presented beautifully and from a couple of spoonfuls I tried, tasted as good as it looked. This was washed down with an Irish coffee for my husband and an Earl Grey tea for me. Which was served in a contemporary teapot and yet again was noted for the great care and effort that all the cutlery and crockery is new, innovative and stylish and adds another enjoyable dimension to the eating experience. To top it off, there was a jazz trio playing which were entertaining and lent a perfect vibe to the whole evening.
The Tapas Bar and Restaurant – KirkhamWould not recommend food was mediocre at best, too many regulars made a clique at bar, beer left a lot to be desired.
Hand and Dagger – Kirkhamwow what a good meal, liked it as soon as we went through the door and the landlord said hello,he is such pleasant bloke, enjoyed the rustic cottage pie with veg, my husband had steak and ale pie with chips and peas, excellent, Will be going back to the hand and dagger again with out a doubt, excellent all round, thank-you Sharon & Mick.x Date visited Saturday 10/06/2011.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamI'm not enough of a curry geek to pronounce with any authority on the food here. But what I will say is that the decor and overall experience is second to none on the Fylde Coast. Plenty of space between the tables (even a booth if you are lucky), smart table settings and crockery, courteous staff, own car park. Worth the drive along Preston new Road to Kirkham for sure.
Buraq – KirkhamExcellent food and service, one of my favorite restaurants, the staff are so lovely too. Cant fault it, get yourself gone !!
Buraq – KirkhamFirst time here since Nigel Smith moved across from Ribby Hall and we were impressed. He’s certainly moved his menus up a notch quality-wise -- not so many holidaymakers to cater for, I guess.
The Villa Country House Hotel – KirkhamI spent a lovely afternoon in The Eagle and Child this Saturday. This pub has always had a soft-spot in my heart due to the lovely lawned beer garden out the back and as the sun was shining we decided to make the most of it and get a cab out from St Annes. I hadn't eaten here for a while but had seen the good reviews on Sugarvine and decided to stay for dinner. I had the catch of the day and my lady friend had the t-bone steak. both were huge portions and cooked really well. Neither of us could finish our dinners, it was the first pub meal I have ever seen defeat my companion, Katie and she surrendered and opted for a doggy bag. She did say it was going to be given to the cat but she did manage to devour it a few hours later. great pub with good beer, the best beer garden on the fylde coast and top notch food. will return and always recommend
The Eagle at Weeton – KirkhamMy husband and I had our wedding reception at the Villa in 2005. We returned for the first time since yesterday and were delighted to find the food was even better than before. Rhubarb roly poly was amazing!

Dawsons – KirkhamWe had a great meal and a very warm welcome.Even my very fussy eater son said can we go back - and we will Gammon a particular favourite
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamWe visited The Restaurant last night to celebrate DH birthday. On arrival the bar staff were extremely welcoming and we were seated and given complimentary canopies which were lovely. We chose the 9 course Taster menu at £50 per head which from start to finish was an absolute delight, our favourite being the chateaubriand, which came in 4 maybe 5 thick slices served medium rare as requested with jus and other fancy bits which escape my memory! Also the Thai lemon rice pudding with coconut sorbet and lemon grass at first was too lemony but when tasted altogether was a delight. The cheese board is varied and each cheese explained to us fully by the very attentive staff and we were really too full to do it justice. With coffee and chocolate petit fours this meal was one we talk about for a while I think. They also do a 5 course taster menu at £30 and 7 course at £40. Well worth a visit to the restaurant.
