Grapes – KirkhamHad a meal and was v good will come again
The Villa Country House Hotel – KirkhamMyself and my Husband went to the Grapes for a light lunch, we both choice a salad, I went for the bistro salad which was £9.95. It sounded fantastic on the menu, but not cheap, when it arrived I could see straight away that the chicken was very over cooked and extremely dry. I was asked if I would like dressing which I did but there was hardly anything on it,the salad came with stilton which turned out to be shavings and very few at that, I was also supposed to get croutons but I didn't. My Husband said his was OK, but nothing special. We ordered another drink and I decided to go for a tia maria coffee, 20 mins later it still hadn't arrived, they were definitely not run off their feet,I complained and still had to wait another 10 mins. The pub was very quiet and yet there were lots of dirty glasses around the bar.We didn't enjoy our visit and definitely will not be returning.
Grapes – KirkhamFound this restaurant because of my husband being a keen angler, and am i glad it's absolutely brilliant ! The staff the service first class, and the food excellent. We live in Wigan and happily travel to the Ashiana for a superb meal never been disappointed and would highly recommend.
Ashiana Tandoori Restaurant – KirkhamSunday dinner at the Eagle & Child and nice to see it’s had a makeover. Not that it was looking shabby before but new carpets and a paint job do make a difference. This pub has always had a really warm and welcoming feel and that hasn't changed thankfully. Loads of choice on the menu and real ales behind the bar. Only slight quibbles would be the veggies were a bit al dente for my taste and why not light the fires – it’s winter and just adds to the atmosphere.
The Eagle at Weeton – KirkhamHave dined at this Restaurant a couple of times in the last few months, every time has been a pleasure. The staff are very polite, the venue is very clean, the food is fantastic. I also come to the conclusion that this is indeed the best Indian in the area, and trust me when I say I have been to them all !
Ashiana Tandoori Restaurant – Kirkhamsince discovering the pub by chance in September we have taken five different couples who were all impressed with the quality, prices, value and wholesome well cooked food. The Sunday lunch is excellent and the best roast potatoes ever. Keep up the high standards and the traditional pub atmosphere.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamI agree with the comments from Janet and Terry below – went with the in-laws and had a great Sunday lunch here too. Excellent value, plenty of choice and really tasty home-cooked food. I had the Roast pork loin with all the trimmings and sticky toffee pudding with custard. Good beer too and a canal right next door for a pleasant stroll. Highly recommended.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamFour of us went to the Hand and Dagger on Sunday and were greeted by a lovely real fire and welcoming Landlord. We opted to have the 2 course Sunday lunch special which was great value for money and all the food was superb. Would definitely recommend and will be going back.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamI live locally and don't use any other chip shop as this is the best. I even get friends to use it now . Best fish and chips.in area
Dawsons – KirkhamThe food's always spot on and I'm there regularly every week. I recently tried a two course Sunday lunch and it was something special. I'll be back on a Sunday as soon as I can make it and I'll have three courses this time.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamThis used to be decent country pub but has gradually gone done hill over the last three or so years. What used to be consistently good is now bland and cheap.Cheap as in the ingredients they use.We used to eat here quite often but have just eaten our last ever meal here. It seems if you're not ordering a £16 sirloin or something more expensive they simply do not care how it tastes or is presented. They used to do decent kids meals here too but now their idea of a good balanced meal for a kid is to deep fry strips of chicken and i do mean deep fry. They're swimming in grease and fat to the point of being sloppy in the middle. You get a better meal at a brewers fayre but then again i guess that's why they're a chain and the eagle and child isn't. The beer is overpriced and the lager is generally tepid and flat. the same can be said for the soft drinks which come in a half full glass! The pub itself could be described as "rustic" which it is to a certain extent however now its starting to verge on scruffy and possibly dirty. If you're planning on enjoying a nice sunny afternoon by eating outside then make sure you bring a can of wasp repellent because the front of the pub is absolutely plagued by them to the point that you just cannot at all at any point relax. Well that's my opinion anyway.I don't normally go in for reviewing/slagging off places and god knows we've been loyal to this place over the years but unfortunately there's been far too much resting on laurels and trying to trim overheads that what used to be good about this place has well and truly gone. There are many far better places to eat around the area so id advise you to look anywhere but here.
The Eagle at Weeton – KirkhamBrilliant food will definitely go again, friendly welcoming pub
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamWe've had several family parties there and visited the Villa for meals and put up family and friends over the last few years. So we were rather sad at our last visit earlier this year to find that the menu did not live up to expectations - the quantities had been severely pared back. That's a pity because we enjoyed what food we had. It's a great mistake to cut the portions in order to keep the price down. The Villa has always been a better than average experience - they shouldn't undermine their previous well-justified good reputation in this way. By the way, I wrote to the Villa but did not receive a reply. NB We did not stay - just a Sunday lunch with our family from Australia taken there specially for a good experience.
