First time here since Nigel Smith moved across from Ribby Hall and we were impressed. He’s certainly moved his menus up a notch quality-wise -- not so many holidaymakers to cater for, I guess.

The Villa Country House Hotel – KirkhamI spent a lovely afternoon in The Eagle and Child this Saturday. This pub has always had a soft-spot in my heart due to the lovely lawned beer garden out the back and as the sun was shining we decided to make the most of it and get a cab out from St Annes. I hadn't eaten here for a while but had seen the good reviews on Sugarvine and decided to stay for dinner. I had the catch of the day and my lady friend had the t-bone steak. both were huge portions and cooked really well. Neither of us could finish our dinners, it was the first pub meal I have ever seen defeat my companion, Katie and she surrendered and opted for a doggy bag. She did say it was going to be given to the cat but she did manage to devour it a few hours later. great pub with good beer, the best beer garden on the fylde coast and top notch food. will return and always recommend
The Eagle at Weeton – KirkhamMy husband and I had our wedding reception at the Villa in 2005. We returned for the first time since yesterday and were delighted to find the food was even better than before. Rhubarb roly poly was amazing!
The Villa Country House Hotel – KirkhamWent here on Thursday with a friend for lunch enjoyed it so much returned on Sunday! Food was wonderful and so tasty, really lovely staff so friendly. I am going to tell all my friends about it. Denise Sawyer
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamMy favourite chippy of all (and i've eaten at rick steins ) Try the homemade fish cakes
Dawsons – KirkhamWe had a great meal and a very warm welcome.Even my very fussy eater son said can we go back - and we will Gammon a particular favourite
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamWe visited The Restaurant last night to celebrate DH birthday. On arrival the bar staff were extremely welcoming and we were seated and given complimentary canopies which were lovely. We chose the 9 course Taster menu at £50 per head which from start to finish was an absolute delight, our favourite being the chateaubriand, which came in 4 maybe 5 thick slices served medium rare as requested with jus and other fancy bits which escape my memory! Also the Thai lemon rice pudding with coconut sorbet and lemon grass at first was too lemony but when tasted altogether was a delight. The cheese board is varied and each cheese explained to us fully by the very attentive staff and we were really too full to do it justice. With coffee and chocolate petit fours this meal was one we talk about for a while I think. They also do a 5 course taster menu at £30 and 7 course at £40. Well worth a visit to the restaurant.
The Tapas Bar and Restaurant – KirkhamFantastic restaurant and food. By far the best Indian food on the Fylde coast. Would recommend it to anyone.
Ashiana Tandoori Restaurant – KirkhamHad a fab lunch today, was our first time and will be returning again very soon. Very welcoming and so very friendly, the roaring log fire very pretty. We both opted for one of the daily specials but was plenty to choose from on the menu. Sunday lunch menu also looks fab and very good value. I would encourage anyone to go to the Hand and Dagger, you won't be disappointed.
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamWhat a great place Ribby Hall is; fantastic Chalets, wonderful leisure facilities, great surroundings and friendly staff. But as a vegetarian visiting Ribby Hall on a healthy break I was quite disappointed with food on offer here in all the dining venues. In the cafe bar, we only counted 1 vegetarian main and non of the salads served were veggie friendly. The main restaurant had a couple of vegetarian options and was OK for one night, but wouldn't rush back. The Bar & Grill had a few items with Vegetarian Option available. ie Dishes designed to have meat in, but served without the meat. Not much thought and effort there. The pizza place had some suitable pizza's but not really what we were after on a healthy relaxing week away. Better dining options were found at nearby pubs, The grapes, fairfield arms, and the local thai restaurant. Also just seen the valentines menu with no vegetarian options...I guess veggies obviously aren't romantic. Come on Ribby, think of us Tree Huggers! Apart from the food options i couldn't fault Ribby Hall at all.
The Tapas Bar and Restaurant – KirkhamI visited Buraq for the first time with my girlfriend on Boxing day. We both was delighted at the perfect attention to detail in the service and the food prepared was faultless. So we recommended it to our families and friends and returned with my girlfriends parents tonight. We were amazed at how much could change in a week. We ordered poppadoms the first week and they were waiting on the table for us. Tonight they never brought them yet they were on the bill at the end.
Buraq – KirkhamNice surroundings mean the focus is on showing the venue to potential weddings rather than serving restaurant visitors. Disappointing food & poor service. More like an over-priced carvery than a restaurant. Very slow service. 2 hours to wait for 2 courses. Greasy fried fish & gnocchi. No wine menu offered. Table not wiped between courses. Only white & brown bread offered
The Villa Country House Hotel – KirkhamOur new favourite Indian restaurant in the Fylde. Good service in pleasant surroundings. Most importantly the food was very good. A bit greasy and oily perhaps, however that unfortunately seems to be a staple ingredient of Indian food made for the English. King Prawn Jalfrezi and Sag Aloo were tip top.
Buraq – KirkhamOne of the better Indian restaurants in the fylde. Flavoursome dishes, good service, nice atmosphere. I would eat here again.
Buraq – KirkhamI was part of a party attending a Christmas get together at the villa but due to snow icy roads and freezing fog we cancelled. However we had paid a £10 per head deposit and was told this was not refundable fair enough but wishing to rebook in January we asked if our deposits could be used the answer was no. We feel this is short sited as the hotel would have had our booking ,so we will be looking to book another restaurant .
The Villa Country House Hotel – KirkhamJust got home from Hand and Dagger after a lovely meal, cosy fire, very friendly and helpful staff. We passed loads of pubs on the way home from a day out and thank goodness they were all shut or we wouldn't have discovered this lovely pub just 10 minutes from our home. I would recommend the Hand and Dagger highly to anyone. Keep up the good work Martin and staff !
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamFantastic food and a guaranteed warm and friendly welcome
Hand and Dagger – KirkhamWhat an absolute gem! I took my girlfriend here on Saturday night for her birthday and am happy to say it was an excellent choice. The restaurant itself is beautiful and stylish with metallic artwork, fantastic decor and a baby grand piano (I believe they have a pianist on Sundays which I hope to experience). We were greeted and seated at the bar on arrival and had the pleasant surprise of a small plate of canapés brought to us (complimentary). This consisted of small crunchy seafood bon bons, huge green olives and a smooth seafood mousse for dipping, delightful. The actual meal was outstanding. I had the ham hock terrine to start which came with smoked garlic puree and a warm egg yolk served on a slate. This was exceptional, the flavours married together brilliantly and the presentation was first rate. For Mains I had the selection of fish and my partner had roast sirloin of beef. Both were excellent although I was certainly more impressed with my starter. The Dessert, for me, was the 'Pièce de résistance'. I was very close to ordering 'Chocolate three ways', but thought I would be a little more adventurous and try the 'Banana Bavarois with Peanut Butter Ice Cream'.... Nice? It was an absolute delight to eat; there were four textures on the plate which alone were just nice but when all four were applied to the same mouthful it was an absolute dream to devour. Such a shame that at this point I was so full of modern British goodness I couldn't find room to try the cheeses. Which, by the way, have their own trolley! I think they have about 20 cheeses to choose from and Bevan, the manager can talk you through the cheeses at the table (we witnessed the ladies on the next table getting the cheese tour). To get all this in classy surroundings should have cost the two of us £100 for the food alone, it was only £35! I am not just recommending this restaurant; I am telling you to go!
