Friday 14.2.25 Beautiful place, nicely arranged rooms, privately arranged tables and very comfortable chairs but we were cold so we kept on our coats. Pate starters were £8.50 I think, the pate, chutney & toast was all very nice with some extra bread on the side which was a nice touch and an automatic bottle of water was brought which is always appreciated especially when one of us is driving. My wife chose the venison it was tender and beautifully cooked with tasty sides but hellish expensive at £30!! The sausage and mash was ok and chosen because it was the cheapest at £17!! Desserts - can't remember what it was called but it was in a glass with marshmallows, wasn't for me. My wife who likes most things had the trio of desserts. Never until now has she been disappointed with this choice. Presentation could have been much better, the nicest bit was the warm brownie which was no more than 3 x 3cm and at £12 we felt completely ripped off. The service was friendly but very steady and a few things got forgotten and although it was valentine's night they weren't busy so the service should have been better. At these prices it's a treat for us and automatically my level of expectation is much higher without disappointment. I would expect everything to be perfect and delicious. When you put yourself on a pedestal and the local competition is plenty and of quality you need to be top notch at everything. If the prices were lowered we would come back but unless that was to happen it's not worth the risk.
