great pub, great food in a great central location. The place!
The Borough – LancasterPrawn sandwich on a slate with salad and a basket of chips all spot on. Great real ale pub and amazingly all ale only £2.50 a pint.
Dressers Arms – ChorleyThe Boars Head has had a refurb and looks great! A great dining pub near Preston, Bolton and Chorley.
Boars Head – PrestonExcellent Indian Restaurant, not pretentious, nice interior, excellent food. Good selection of Fish curry plus tandoori Salmon for the health conscious.
The Viceroy – LeylandHaving read the derisory report on this restaurant by "c" I felt compelled to write a rebuttal, an drateful thanks he doesn't live in the area. He clearly wouldn't recognise good wholesome food if it jumped out of the pan and smacked him on the nose. This restaurant visited for the first time since re-opening as The Silk Route is a quality place. Great friendly staff, an ample varied menu, and thechef can make anything a customer wants, So "c" if you want the usual tat,of burgers, weird chicken or wispy washy fish and chips just go there, seems more like your style, and leave the classier places to those who know, are prepared to enjoy and pay for good food, service and ambience. A rare thing in Corbyns Weary World sadly but we will see more when we leave that awful set of demented money grabbing thieves in Bruxelles. Keep going down the Silk Road, they know how to do it.
The Silk Route – PrestonVery much enjoyed my impromptu lunch at the Town Green Brasserie. The staff were very accommodating with my request for plug and wifi. Even the chefs were friendly. My breaded haddock on creamed spinach was great. The place to go in Ormskirk
The Wine Bar, Town Green – OrmskirkFirst time here with partner and newborn, food was fantastic and service was to high standards. Looked after so well. Perfect for families, accommodated all of our baby needs. Great atmosphere would definitely recommend the barnyard and will be returning very soon :-) well worth a visit.
Barnyard – OrmskirkI've eaten a few times now and each time the food has been superb. The burgers and milkshakes are great, I'd certainly recommend trying Bentleys.
Bentleys – OrmskirkI do like Barley, nestled under Pendle Hill. It now has a great pub the Barley Mow. I stayed the night a while back and my son and I were treated so well and loved our meal and accommodation. This time I came on my own as the sun was shining. Smoked haddock on a bed of creamy spinach which hit the spot. Then an ascent of the hill in the glorious sunshine and back down for a pint. food, exercise and beer....perfect
Barley Mow – BurnleyWent to the Bay Horse midweek for a Spanish wine tasting hosted by Rioja Vega and Lakeland Vintners. Sherry on arrival, a nice white and then working through the range of red Rioja – basic tempranillo, crianza, reserva and gran reserva. I liked the fact that the glasses were all brought to the table so you could compare and contrast (the white and the reserva were the best for me). Have to day the accompanying food was excellent – tapas (gambas, black pudding bon bons, rabbit and prune balls, asparagus), lamb on the bone and crema catalana. You would never come here on the off chance as it is so out of the way but it has built up a great reputation over the years and rightly so, in my opinion.
Bay Horse Inn – LancasterWhat can I said about this place that doesn't already seem to have been said before. Beautifully decorated with amazing, friendly guys who own & run it. The feeling of 'welcome' is evident from the moment you walk in. It's like being at a friend's home. The food. WOW. Simple and stunning and in plentiful quantity. Fresh, beautifully presented and very, very reasonable in cost. I can't recommend this place any higher. Thank you & good luck
Bentleys – OrmskirkFirst time at The Three Fishes for quite some time. Pleased to report that standards have not slipped and we had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. What they excel at is well-delivered comfort food that really hits the spot and on our table the Venison scotch egg, Rabbit pie, Fish & chips and Fish pie all got the thumbs up. Wine list is good with lots of choice (as you would expect from a Northcote sibling) and also very good value. We chose a bottle of Chablis (which was also available by the glass, ranging from taster 70ml to third of a bottle 250ml). Quibbles? Only one minor one – you need to go to the bar to pay the bill.
The Three Fishes – ClitheroeBooked in here for our works Christmas meal we were not very happy with the overall event i wrote a letter to them stating all our complaints i got a phone call back from a Michelle at 9.30 in the evening in february she agreed that things could of been done better and i then said that i wanted the apology in wrighting so that i could take it to work for the other girls could read it she promised to sort something out for us and here we are in the middle of March and still Nothing from them i saw her again 2 week ago and she then went on to say that the letter was coming from head office well i must say that we were not happy on the night and we are not happy with the lack of response that we have had from them and i don't think the girls will want to return for another works do poor service lack of service totally disorganised food cold i could go on but i think you can get the idea .
County Hotel – CarnforthThis is an excellent pub all round. From the food, service, location and its lovely interior. Has everything you would expect from a top end dining pub. My dish was a strange choice for a grim day - chorizo, squid and salad with gespatchio but it really was good! Robert the young man that served me was a very well trained waiter and a thoroughly nice chap. I liked the refit as it looks like a old pub with character and charm but its modern at the same time. Lovely part of the world by the river.
Aspinall Arms – ClitheroeLovely pub with great views over the countryside. fancy staying in one of their yurts. Food was fab.
The Red Pump Inn – ClitheroeGotta love this place...been coming here since it opened in 1985 ?? Italian food at its best! Bon apetito X
Italian Orchard – PrestonBest Italian meal I have had outside Italy.
Fighting Cocks Inn – BurnleyHave to comment on what a lovely lunch we had at the Freemasons last weekend. It was totally on spec -- had taken my mother shopping in Whalley and thought we would give this place a try. So glad we did. No reservation but the staff were welcoming and very courteous. Gave us a lovely table and we chose from the set-price lunch menu (2 courses for £15), both of us starting with the Pearl barley risotto and following up with a melt-in-your-mouth slow-cooked lamb dish. Food of the highest quality and great value. Good choice of wines by the glass too which we took full advantage of. Can’t wait to go back in the evening and try the a la carte.
