Visited Thyme Houghton for first time last night to celebrate my birthday with my lovely husband. The restaurant is quite small and intimate and for a Tuesday night was about three quarters full when we left. The service was very attentive and friendly. We had a canape each of miniature Yorkshire pud with delicious roast beef and gravy. warm bread rolls were also served. Hubby ordered chicken livers and I had rabbit and ox cheek stew served in a small pot with 2 small slices of ciabatta and raspberry sauce. Didn't care for the sauce much but both starters were delicious. For mains hubby had assiette of meat, rump, sirloin and mutton, served with 3 different flavoured mash and delicious meat gravy. I had silver hake with caper butter, I absolutely loved this meaty fish served with chorizo and mash and selection of well cooked but boring, julienne carrots, brocolli, cauliflour and new potatoes. For sweet hubby had pear and wine just tart tattin with ice cream and I had white chocolate cheesecake with white choc ice cream. The whole meal was a delight and with two soft drinks we paid £37 - mind you we did use our hi-life card which gave us one main and one starter free. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and hope to visit again soon. They also do a special menu at £14.95 for three courses, served all night. Off the a la carte, starters £8, mains £18 - £20 and sweets £7
