Ocean Palace – DarwenHave been here many times and is always fantastic, we went again on Wednesday night for my boyfriend’s birthday, and it was no exception. We ordered way too much (as usual) because the portions are always plentiful, but even managed to force down a dessert afterwards. My 2 yr old little girl was left to play around our feet as it was fairly quiet, and the owners didn’t mind so was a really nice evening all in all, and we spent a good 2 1/2 hours here & certainly were not rushed to leave. This is definitely a value for money restaurant and offers many varieties of set meals, oh and has a nice selection of wines including a lovely bottle of rose which helped us along the way. Keep up the great work, Thanks
Valley Cantonese – RawtenstallVisited this restaurant this week. As a frequent diner of the old Red Lion I was very disappointed at the standard of cooking. The food was lukewarm to say the least and the quality of the beef was not good at all. Good produce is key to these village pubs and this is not present at the Red Lion at all The owners seem young and inexperienced and have a lot to live up to as this place once had a fabulous reputation.
Red Lion At Mawdesley – OrmskirkFollowing reports that the new managers of the Red Lion had received spontaneous applause on two separate occasions recently from group-booking diners at the end of their Festive meals, four friends and I decided to investigate yesterday lunchtime. The bar area has been refurbished giving it a cosy, welcoming feel, and the newly re-opened restaurant in the conservatory has been given a complete make-over since we last visited over a year ago. The new landlady, Helen, made us feel very welcome, and head chef, Ross, who has a growing reputation in the area, did not disappoint! The Festive Lunch menu was £12.95 for two courses, or £15.95 for three. Combined with friendly and efficient service, this proved to be very good value indeed, with a choice of three starters and three main courses. We all had starters which were delicious and then I had the salmon which was beautifully cooked, crisp on top, but soft and tender inside. My fellow diners had the pork and the turkey and were equally impressed. Too full for puddings, we all opted for coffees to finish. The whole bill, with drinks, large wines and a couple of gin and tonics, came to £88. We all judged our visit to have been well worthwhile. Apart from the Festive and full A La Carte menus, we also noticed the Light Bites menu, which has apparently got people talking. My friends Sally and Paul have become frequent visitors for this and say they can’t believe how they do it for just £5 per person. We are planning to investigate this one for ourselves next week!
Red Lion At Mawdesley – OrmskirkThis great pub is losing trade as the management fails to understand the 'pub product'. This place is not a restaurant in the 'classic context', but a 'food pub' Customers using this type of operation do not want to 'wait here to be seated'; nor do they want to be escorted to a table which they may not like. We all know the system for ordering at the bar. The current management style is damaging the turnover because: 1 As customers now have their orders taken at the table, this denies the business the opportunity to merchandise their products at the 'point of sale'. 2 Customers who only want a drink are made to feel unwelcome. 3 People like to choose where they want to sit. 4 By forcing table service onto pub food diners, this creates an obligation to 'tip', which they may not normally do and, therefore, decline to return. 5 'Pub grub punters' go to places like The Roebuck, The Blundell and The Malthouse for an informal dining experience, .not a style of service that could be construed as 'oppressive' I did point out these observations to a member of staff who agreed with me, but went on to explain that it was The Manager's wish to upgrade the offer. The Malthouse was operating at approx. 40%. capacity when we left at around 9:30 PM on a Saturday night- which says it all really. With increased labour intensity and falling sales this Manager may not be able to sustain his desired levels of service..which are not required for this style of Pub....thet's what The Malthouse is; A Pub!!
The Malthouse Farm – ChorleyOriginally found this restaurant on Sugarvine and visited several times since, I only live in nearby Oswaldtwistle and didn't know they were here. The food was fantastic and the staff so attentive. There are so many Indian Restaurant's out there to choose from but I don't think I need to look any further. Thanks guys keep up the good work.
Balti House – BlackburnWe visited Yu and You on the 4th December for my birthday. We decided to visit following numerous recommendations and the well publicised Gordon Ramsey competition win. To say that we were unimpressed would be an understatement ! now don't get me wrong the food was fine, but that was all it was. I just expected so much more, it tasted and was presented like all the other chinese restaurants that I had previously visited. The atmosphere was lively but this was good as it was a Saturday night and we had been informed that this occurs and was normal. The service was poor and we had to wait at least 30 minutes for our mains and when we ordered drinks these always took too long to arrive. If I was asked whether I would recommend this to anybody else I would simply say to them. "its a pricey Chinese restaurant and you could pick a number of other better value for money options"
Yu And You – BlackburnWe had a fantastic meal at the Wellsprings Inn this afternoon on our first visit. The staff and service were first class and the food excellent and very good value with 2 for 1 on the main courses. The atmosphere was very festive and with snow outside we felt like we were in the Alps. The only very minor problem was that the Ladies toilets were cold (my wife and daughter said !). We can't wait to go back.
Wellsprings Inn Pendle Hill – ClitheroeWent to Angelos for a party night. £28 pounds for very disappointing food, poor service and little entertainment.Won't be going again

Piri Piri – OrmskirkSix months ago my son and I visited La Salsa for lunch. Not being an adventurous eater this was my first taste of Tapas. I was very impressed and tapas has become my favourite eat-out meal. I would give the restaurant, the staff and the food a hearty ten out of ten and eat there a couple of times a week.
La Salsa – DarwenHaving just enjoyed the Christmas Fayre menu with 73 members of the 'Find your Feet' walking group, I would recommend it to anyone. The staff were helpful and courteous and everyone enjoyed it. As soon as the meal was over, they were asking me to book for next year Thanks to all concerned and a Merry Christmas to you all.
